It seems that baseball fans either love or hate the Yankees but whichever side you are on there is no denying the fact that they are American icons. The Yankees symbol is seen everywhere in American culture and has been worn on the jerseys of legends like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, and Joe DiMaggio. The list goes on and it will continue as every generation will have a heroic Yankee to tell our kids and grandchildren about.

Yankees fans are now soon to witness a living legend accomplish one of the most coveted feats in baseball. This legend is Derek Jeter and he is on the verge of getting 3000 career hits, making him part of one of baseball’s most exclusive clubs, among the likes of Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, Pete Rose, and 23 others. Jeter’s 17 season career has been very consistent and this crowning achievement will confirm his status as another Yankee that goes down in history.

Along with Jeter are other countless All Stars like CC Sabathia, Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, Andruw Jones, and Jorge Posada. Together they are working to keep the Yankee’s legacy as the winningest team in baseballs history alive with another World Series Championship!

The New York Yankees will play their next game in Chicago against the cubs on Sunday, June 19.

Derek Jeter is rapidly approaching a significant milestone in the realm of Major League Baseball. With 2,925 career hits, the Yankees’ captain is now just 25 hits away from reaching 3,000 for his career.

When Jeter reaches the 3,000 hit mark, he will be the first Yankees player to do so while wearing pinstripes for every hit. Additionally, Jeter will join an extraordinarily exclusive club of just 27 other players in history to reach this milestone.

Unfortunately for Jeter, he was unable to make any progression towards this feat in the Yankees’ last game. In Monday’s 7-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, Jeter was unable to get a hit in five at bats. Tomorrow Jeter will face the Blue Jay’s left handed pitcher, Ricky Romero. Although Jeter’s career against Romero is less than spectacular (2 for 16, or .125) he is looking to even the series for the Yankees, while making some important hits along the way.

Speaking on potentially reaching this milestone Jeter said, “It’s still far away. I’m really not thinking about it now. It’s just more stay comfortable and the hits will come.”

The New York Yankees will continue their three game series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, May 24, 2011.

The countdown to Derek Jeter’s 3,000 career hit milestone has begun. Jeter entered the 2011 season just 74 hits away from becoming the 28th player in history to reach 3,000. As of now, Jeter has 2,962 career hits, and only needs 38 more to become the first New York Yankees player to reach 3,000 all while being a Yankee.

May 30, 1995 was an extremely important date for this Yankees’ captain. On this date in history, the Yankees were playing the Kansas City Royals when Jeter was able to get his first major league hit. It was beautiful a single hit slightly to the left of Tim Belcher that paved the way for many more hits to come.

Sixteen years and 17 seasons later, Jeter is now just shy of reaching a huge Major League Baseball milestone. During the first 33 games of the season for the Yankees, Jeter has accumulated 36 hits, which averages to be 1.09 hits per game. New York Magazine has used these numbers in order to predict when Jeter will reach the 3,000 mark. Their prediction is that Jeter will be celebrating this new milestone on June 17 against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

The New York Yankees will host their next game on Thursday, May 12, 2011 in New York City.

On Saturday, the New York Yankees will continue a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. On Friday night the Yankees endured a 5-3 loss against the Blue Jays, which should motivate New York to win their next game of the series even more so. This was the first game in this three game series, and it brought the Blue Jays within 2.5 games of the Yankees for the American League East.

Although the Blue Jays are looking to close that gap even more on Saturday, the Yankees are hoping that former Blue Jay, A.J. Burnett can lead their pitching rotation and put an end to their temporary success. Burnett is coming off of his best start of the year, but it was also his first loss of the season.

Since becoming a Yankee, A.J. Burnett has never had an easy time when pitching against the Toronto Blue Jays. He has an especially hard time against them since Toronto’s, Jose Bautista is the leading American League hitter. As of now Burnett is 1-4 with a 6.50 ERA in eight starts.

The New York Yankees will continue this series by hosting their next game at Yankee Stadium against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, April 20.

This weekend the New York Yankees found themselves facing a rematch of last year’s American League Championship Series. The Yankees were off to a bad start in the series by taking a 3-5 loss on Friday. However, the team was able to redeem themselves with an important win on Saturday, and a tie-breaking win on Sunday.

New York’s 6-5 win that allowed them to take this three game series can be greatly attributed to a good number of home runs – three to be exact.

Rangers’ pitcher Alexi Ogando entered the season coming off of 13 scoreless innings. Fortunately, the Yankees were able to trip him up multiple times throughout the game. New York successfully dominated and challenged Ogando’s pitching skills with six hits, five runs, and three homers.

The first homer was hit in the second inning when Robinson Cano went deep, Russell Martin hit the next in the fifth, which was followed up by Curtis Granderson in the sixth inning of the game.

The Yankees improved their division lead with a 9-5 record, and they are hoping to improve that even more so. Next, the New York Yankees will begin a two game series by playing the Blue Jays at Toronto’s Rogers Centre on Tuesday, April 19, 2011.

The New York Yankees have started their 2011-2012 campaign off on the right foot. On Thursday, the Yankees celebrated this season’s Opening Day with a 6-3 win over the Detroit Tigers. New York has not been victorious in their season opener since 2008, but this year the team was able to halt their two year Opening Day losing streak.

Many Yankee players contributed to Thursday’s win, notably Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson, and CC Sabathia. Despite his normal beginning of the season slump, Teixeira hit a clutch 3 run homer in the third inning on Opening Day. This spring Teixeira worked with hitting coach Kevin Long, and his improvements are apparent.

Lefty CC Sabathia also had a strong presence in Thursday’s game. He pitched well against the Tigers’ line-up, only allowing three runs on six hits in six innings. Before he left the game, CC struck out seven batters and only walked two. Sabathia said, “I made some pitches when I had to. I got into tough spots and was able to minimize the damage.”

Finally, Curtis Granderson deserves much of the credit for the Yanks’ defeat over the Tigers as well. In his center field position, Granderson made three important catches, including one in the ninth inning to finalize the Yankees’ win. In the seventh-inning Granderson put the Yankees ahead of the Tigers for the rest of the game with a homer off of Phil Coke.

All weekend long is calendar weekend at Yankee Stadium. All fans who attend this weekend’s Yankees vs. Detroit Tiger games will receive a free calendar. The New York Yankees will continue their opening weekend against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, April 2, 2011.

On Saturday, manager Joe Giardi announced the New York Yankees’ pitching rotation for the beginning of the season. Throughout this season’s spring training, there has been a ton of speculation regarding who will take the No. 5 spot between Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia.

The team has ultimately completed their rotation by selecting Ivan Nova for the No. 4 spot, which came as no surprise. The real question came down to the No. 5 spot, which Freddy Garcia successfully secured. With no more spots remaining in the starting rotation, this leaves Bartolo Colon in the bullpen.

Giardi recognized numerous reasons for their decision. He admitted that the Yankees “felt that he had a chance to get better because he was another offseason removed from his arm issues he had.” Giardi gave the 35-year old right hander credit because “for his standards, he had a great spring.”

However, Garcia was a favorite for the No. 5 spot since the beginning. This is mostly because Colon has fallen a little bit off of the Yankees’ radar. The 37 year old RHP has not stepped up to the mound in the MLB since 2009.

The Yankees will host their season opener with their new starting pitching lineup at the new Yankee Stadium against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, March 31, 2011.

The hitting coach for the New York Yankees has high hopes for Robinson Cano’s season. Kevin Long believes that the second basemen will see an increase in his home run numbers, and could possibly move onto the next level by becoming a power hitter.

Long admitted, “I wouldn’t be surprised if Cano hit 40 home runs.” Although this is quite the jump from Cano’s career high of 29 home runs, the hitting coach seemed absolutely positive that Cano could do it. However, Long did say that this was not a goal that was set by Cano to reach.

This could be because Cano himself is not so sure that he could pull it off. Cano responded instantly and laughed when asked if he could score 40 homers this upcoming season by saying, “No chance. Maybe if you put an extra half season.”

Baseball season is less than two weeks away, and the anticipation is building. Will Robinson Cano be able to reach the 40 home run mark?

The Yankees will enter their third season at the new Yankee Stadium as they host the Detroit Tigers during their season opener on Thursday, March 31.

On Sunday, New York Yankees’ closer Mariano Rivera made his spring training debut. In New York’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins, Rivera was able to strike out all three batters that stepped up to the plate.

On Sunday, Rivera struck out the Twins’ Jason Kubel, Matt Brown, and Luke Hughes who went out swinging. During the sixth inning, Rivera threw nine strikes out of a total of 12 pitches. Rivera made it clear that he was proud of his accomplishment when he admitted that, “It felt great,” and that he “can’t complain.”

Rivera is a 41 year old, 11-time all-star for the New York Yankees, and he realizes that specific things improve with age. “You get older, you get wiser,” Rivera said. “You’re just trying to throw the best pitch you can and make sure you hit your spots.”

Last season he was 3-3 with a 1.80 ERA. He is second to Trevor Hoffman in regular season saves with 559. he holds the postseason record of 42, and last season he had 33 saves in 38 chances.

There’s just a little over two weeks until the season begins for New York. The Yankees will enter their third season at the new Yankee Stadium as they host the Detroit Tigers during their season opener on Thursday, March 31.

It’s that exciting time of the year again! After a few months of rest, spring training for the New York Yankees has begun. The team hit the George M. Steinbrenner Field in sunny Tampa, Florida on Saturday in order to prepare for the upcoming season.

Coming off of his worst batting season last year, shortstop Derek Jeter returned to training with room for improvement. Last season Jeter’s batting average was only .270, and he was the team’s number one source of double plays.

On Monday, Jeter began working on his brand new swing and went 1-4 at practice. Hitting coach Kevin Long began tweaking Jeter’s swing last September by implementing an important change as Jeter waits for the ball during a pitch. Jeter’s new and improved pitch aims to stop Jeter from taking a stride in the direction of the plate during this time.

Jeter has been working on the new mechanics, and admits that he has been pretty successful. He said,”The good thing is, my foot hasn’t been moving. That’s a step in the right direction, I guess.”

There are 30 days until the season begins for New York, which leaves Jeter enough time to perfect his new stride-less swing. The New York Yankees will enter their third season at the new Yankee Stadium as they host the Detroit Tigers during their season opener on Thursday, March 31.

The New York Yankees are trying something new this season; Jorge Posada will now be a full-time designated hitter rather than in his original position as catcher. Since the late 1990′s Posada has posted up behind the plate, so it must be a weird transition for Posada.

On Saturday Posada said, “It is what it is. I look forward to everything I do. I try to help out the team, and if that’s going to help out the team and that’s what they want, I’m OK with it.” It seems as though Posada may not be thrilled with the decision, but being the team player that he is, he will do whatever is best for the team.

The Yankees have hinted that he isn’t completely ready to be phased out of his catching position. Posada said, “I can’t complain. I always like to catch, I’m used to catching.” New York has acknowledged Posada’s doubts, and have admitted that they will keep him catcher-ready just in case.

Posada believes that the transition will be the hardest during the actual season, but Yankees fans don’t have a doubt in their mind that he will be successful in any position he plays.

Spring training for the New York Yankees will begin on February 26, 2011 at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in sunny Tampa, Florida.

Mark Teixeira, first baseman for the New York Yankees, said he believes that teammate Andy Pettitte will be retiring before the beginning of next season. However, the Yankees are certainly hoping for his return to the team.

Although Teixeira is still hoping that the pitcher will return to the mound, Pettitte has led him to believe through texting that he is “leaning toward retirement.” Pettitte is currently at his home in Deer Park, Texas where he is making the crucial decision of whether or not he will pitch for the Yankees in 2011.

New York’s patience is running thin, especially after Cliff Lee rejected their offer. Although Lee is one of the greatest pitchers in the game, and his decline was a major disappointment for the Yankees, he did leave a great deal of “payroll flexibility.” Their current focus may be on Andy Pettitte’s potential return to the rotation, but the Yankees have room to trade for pitchers such as Derek Lowe of the Braves, Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs, or Joe Blanton of the Phillies if need be.

President of the Yankees, Randy Levine made it clear that the lefty pitcher does not have a specific deadline for a decision. He added, ”I think he knows we need him. I think he knows how much we respect him.” He also mentioned, “He’s a great Yankee. He’s a very, very mature person and he’s got a great family and we’ve got to give him a chance to make his own decision.”

Pitcher Cliff Lee and his agent have been cautious in their pursuit at deciding where Lee’s future should take him. As a free agent, Lee is expected to make his decision early this week, but as of now his potential teams are kept in suspense.

The Texas Rangers, the New York Yankees, and an unknown team are the big players all vying for Lee’s attention. After silence from Lee all weekend, there has been speculation that he and his agent Darek Braunecker were delaying their choice on purpose in an attempt to attain more money.

On Wednesday the New York Yankees were believed to have enhanced their offer, adding another year and several million dollars to their original bid. As of now, the Yankees have offered Lee an estimated $138 million, 6 year deal.

The Rangers also upgraded their bid from an original $100 million over five years. They have now offered him a six-year deal for an undisclosed amount of money. Though the exactness of each bid is uknown, it is believed that the Yankees’ offer is significantly more.

Last week Lee visited the Texans, which left Rangers’ CEO Chuck Greenberg optimistic that Lee will in fact choose the Rangers over the Yankees. The New York Yankees are hoping Lee will choose them, and join them next season.

Spring training for the New York Yankees will commence on February 26, 2011 at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in beautiful Tampa, Florida.

Over the past two days there have been meetings between the top guns of the New York Yankees, Derek Jeter, and Jeter’s agent Casey Close. At least one meeting was held on Tuesday between Yankees GM Brian Cashman, Jeter, and his agent in Tampa on Tuesday.

Before this meeting, the two sides had not interacted in several days. Jeter was offered a deal from the Yankees which would add three more years onto his time with the Yanks, and $45 million. However, the New York Times has said that Jeter is interested in a contract that will last four to five years and would be worth $23-$24 million per season.

The Yankees seem willing to stray from their original $45 million, three year offer in hopes of keeping Jeter with the Yankees. With Jeter’s $189 million, 10-year deal expiring after this season, it looks like he will be taking a cut in salary.

Both New York, and Jeter understand their importance to each other, and neither of them may be ready to give that up just yet. Spring training for the New York Yankees will commence on February 26, 2011 at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in beautiful Tampa, Florida.

A meeting held in Tampa between big leagues of the New York Yankees including co-owner Hal Steinbrenner, president Randy Levine, and general manager Brian Cashman along with Derek Jeter and his agent was conducted to allow for smooth contract negotiations. This meeting was the first face-to-face initiative taken by the Yankees to ensure that negotiations would not become more difficult than necessary.

Although not much information regarding the meeting was disclosed, an industry source said that this meeting was informal where no offers were made. It was an open meeting in which the Yankees and Jeter could answer each other’s questions to help start, and move the deal making process along. There have been no other meetings scheduled, but they are likely to begin just after the Thanksgiving holiday.

A source gave ESPN insight to the Yankees’ plan for Jeter, saying his contract would be above market value. According to the source, Jeter would be receiving anywhere from $15-21 million per season for three more years. Both New York, and Jeter understand their importance to each other, and neither of them may be ready to give that up just yet.

Spring training for the New York Yankees will commence on February 26, 2011 at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in beautiful Tampa, Florida.

The New York Yankees were able to extend their World Series chances for at least one more game with a 7-2 victory over the Texas Rangers. With this win tonight, the Yankees are on their way to overcoming the teams’ first 3-1 playoff deficit in 52 years.

After a week long slump, the Yankees played exceptional defense, and pitcher CC Sabathia struck out seven batters in six innings. However, he did run into a rough patch during his last inning.

It was the sixth inning and the Yankees were leading 6-1 with one out. Sabathia gave up three singles in a row, which loaded up the bases. A ground ball added one more to the Rangers score, with Mitch Moreland up at bat. It took him eight pitches, and the fans roaring in the crowds, but Sabathia was able to stump Moreland on a two balls, two strikes pitch.

Although the 2009 World Series Winners were able to avoid elimination this time, they still are not where they would ideally be. They forced a game six in the best-of-seven series that is still 3-2 in favor of the Rangers.

The New York Yankees will compete in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Friday, October 22, 2010 in Texas against the Rangers. This game will feature a rematch of game 2, as the Yankees will start Phil Hughes against Colby Lewis, only this time the Yankees are hoping that the game ends in their favor.

The New York Yankees are headed to the American League Championship Series! On Saturday night in the Bronx the Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 6-1. The Yankees swept the American League Divisional Series in this Game 3 victory, and they will be advancing to the next round where they will face the winner of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers series.

This ending may be all too familiar to the Twins. This was the second season in a row where New York swept Minnesota in order to continue on to the ALCS. In fact, the Yankees have beat the Twins in nine straight post season games, which is tied for the third-longest winning streak against one opponent in postseason history.

Victory came easy for the Yankees with the help of a dominating offense, and smooth pitching by Phil Hughes. Hughes made a notable first postseason start. The 24 year old pitched for seven innings and allowed no runs. He also was the youngest pitcher to start and win a postseason game with the Yankees since 1981.

The Yankees have ended the playoffs of the Twins, but New York’s playoff road is only just beginning. The Yankees will play their next game on Friday, October 15, 2010 against either the Rays or the Rangers.

On Monday night the New York Yankees remembered late owner George Steinbrenner in a way that make sure he will not be forgotten. Before their victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees unveiled a monument dedicated to Steinbrenner where it will be joined by all of the other Yankee legends at Monument Park.

On July 13 George Steinbrenner past away at the age of 80. He can be credited with helping the Yankees attain the status that they currently have with a value of $1.6 billion according to Forbes. He had an enormous impact on not only the Yankees, but the game as well. Commissioner Bud Selig even said during Monday’s tribute that Steinbrenner belongs in the Hall of Fame because of the substantial impact he’s made.

Former Yankee great Reggie Jackson attended the monument unveiling, and as he spoke about Steinbrenner his eyes teared up. He told the Post, “I came here because of him and became part of the franchise. I’ll always have a special place for him. So I look forward to him being honored, recognized for really his contributions to baseball, certainly the world championships.”

Despite the extremely sad loss of the boss, the New York Yankees will keep on keeping on. Next up they will face the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, September 26, 2010.

After suffering from a bruised right knee, New York Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher could be returning to the lineup soon. Swisher has been unable to start in a game since Sunday, and according to manager Joe Girardi his knee will most likely keep him from starting until Friday at the earliest.

Swisher had a second MRI on Tuesday which proved that his right knee was just inflamed, and luckily no bones were broken. Swisher admitted that he was relieved that the injury was not worse. He did go forth with a cortisone shot to relieve most of the pain, which will hopefully allow him to start against Baltimore this Friday.

Swisher has been dealing with the injury which occurred when he fouled a ball off his knee in late August. Since then Swisher has been intermittently in and out of the Yankees’ starting lineup. Although Swisher has not started since Sunday, he did pinch-hit on Monday. Unfortunately he could barely run to first after his hit.

The New York Yankees will play their next game without Swisher against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Wednesday, September 15. The Yankees are looking forward to his return as soon as he is in good shape.

Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees has made history… again. Alex Rodriguez came off of the disabled list on Sunday, and since then the Yankees have lost two games in a row. Despite the Yankees’ 4-3 loss to the Orioles on Sunday, A-Rod still managed to shine.

In his first game since returning with a calf injury the slugger drove in two runs, and became the first player in the history of Major League Baseball to have 14 seasons of 100 or more RBI. This accomplishment was also the 13th season in a row that he was able to reach 100 RBI, which ties him for the longest streak ever with baseball greats Lou Gehrig and Jimmie Foxx.

In order to be the current record holder he had to break a tie with Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Jimmie Foxx, which he was clearly successful at doing.

During Rodriguez’s second game since coming off the DL, he tied the game in the fourth inning with his 605th career home run, and 22nd of the season.

On Sunday the New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 with the help of a major effort put forth by rookie pitcher Ivan Nova. During the game he allowed five hits and walked one player, and in 5-2/3 innings the rookie pitcher only allowed one run. Nova was able to strike out seven batters from the White Sox as he reeled in his first win.

Sunday’s game was Nova’s first major league victory, but this was the second strong showing he’s had this season. Also, credit must be given to Ivan for holding his own against a team that managed to score nine runs in the first two games of the series. On Sunday Nova was not fazed by how well the White Sox were doing in the series, and he handled Chicago’s lineup like a veteran.

The Yankees are now heading back to New York after finishing their roadtrip 3-3, and recording their 80th victory while being the first team in the MLB to do so. Sundays win was more than just a win for the Yankees because it also made them closer to making first place in the American League East theirs.

The New York Yankees will play their next game at Yankee stadium against the Oakland Athletics on Monday, August 30, 2010.

It seems as though everything went right for the New York Yankees on Sunday at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Despite the rainy weather, the Yankees were able to beat the Seattle Mariners 10-0.

The Yankees certainly won for a reason. The team was working hard together to stop the Mariners and ensure a win. Even without Alex Rodriguez the team was able to work together and make up for the loss. Due to a strained left calf A-Rod was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. However the Yankees weren’t fazed, instead they looked to other team members to make up for the missing A-Rod.

Robinson Cano hit a career-high six home runs during the game one of which was a grand slam, bringing in three runs for the Yankees. Jorge Posada and Austin Kearns also scored home runs for the Yankees, and CC Sabathia lengthened his streak of wins at home to 15.

The New York Yankees will travel to Canada for their next game to match up against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, August 23, 2010.

On Saturday night the New York Yankees pulled off an 8-3 win over the Kansas City Royals with a little help from Alex Rodriguez and the three homers he hit during the game.

Rodriguez is a master at home runs, as this was the 56th game where he was able to hit more than one homers in his 16-year career. This was the fourth time in his career that he was able to hit three homers in one game. With his four homers, he drove in five runs for the Yankees. That helped Rodriguez take over the RBI lead of the MLB with 97.

The home runs by A-Rod all traveled over 400 feet, and were picked on on by three different pitchers. In the sixth inning Rodriguez hit a home run, then in the seventh he hit a two-run shot. Then finally in the ninth inning of the game, A-Rod hit a two-run drive into left field that landed in the water fountains.

This season Alex Rodriguez has hit 21 home runs, and a total of 604 throughout his entire MLB career.

The New York Yankees will travel to Kansas City to play the Royals for their next game on Sunday, August 15, 2010.

After waiting nearly two weeks, Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees became the youngest person to ever hit 600 career home runs.

At just 35 years old, A-Rod joined the elite 600-home run club. The second youngest player to join the club was Babe Ruth in 1931 at 36 years old.

The exclusive group only has seven members including Barry Bonds with 762 homers, Hank Aaron with 755, Willie Mays at 660, Ken Griffey Jr. with 630, and Sammy Sosa with 609 home runs.

Rodriguez was struggling for some time to make the dream of a 600th home run become a reality. His last homer was on July 22, and since then he went 9 for 46. Out of any of the seven players to reach the 600 mark, Rodriguez had the longest stretch between numbers 599 and 600. Finally on Wednesday night he drove a pitch over the fence at center field, and it went straight into Monument Park.

It took A-Rod exactly three years to make the leap from 500 home runs to 600, and the Yankees and their fans definitely have awhile until they see A-Rod reaching the 700 milestone.

The New York Yankees will play their next game on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx against the Boston Red Sox.

Last Thursday Alex Rodriguez hit his 599th career home run. Now, 10 days later he is waiting to knock his 600th one out of the park. Concerning to many fans, A-Rod is taking longer to reach the 600 mark than any of the six other players to do so. However, as long as the Yankees keep winning, Rodriguez is not worried about it.

Tonight at the Tropicana Field the Tampa Bay Rays will send Matt Garza to the mound to face off against Rodriguez and the Yankees. This will be the first time the Rays have sent him out against the Yankees since his no-hitter. With a 3.26 ERA, Garza is 1-3 lifetime against the Yankees

Out of nine meetings with Tampa Bay, the Yankees have one four of the games. Tonight the Yankees are hoping to beat the Rays in the battle for AL East dominance, and A-Rod may be looking for his 600th career home run. When Rodriguez joins the six other members of the 600-homer club, he will be the youngest player ever to reach that achievement.

The New York Yankees will play their next game at the Tropicana Field in Florida against the Tampa Bay Rays tonight.

On Tuesday night in Cleveland the New York Yankees suffered a 4-1 loss to rookie pitcher Josh Tomlin and the Indians. Tuesday was Tomlin’s major league debut, and he was able to dominate the Yankees. For the first seven innings Tomlin left the Yankees scoreless, and only allowed two hits.

Not even Alex Rodriguez could get a nice hit off of Tomlin. Surprisingly this was the fifth straight game that Rodriguez was unsuccessful in scoring a home run.

A-Rod had the perfect opportunity to make it happen in the ninth inning where he would have represented the tying run. However, Chris Perez was not having that. Instead, he ended the game with a grounder, and an unfortunate loss for the Yankees.

Rodriguez has not been able to hit a home run in 21 at bats. This year A-Rod has hit 16 homers in 358 at bats, which means he averages one homer every 22.3 at-bats. Based on this pace, Rodriguez is due to hit one out of the park during Wednesday’s game against the Indians… at least he and the Yankees are hoping that’s the case.

The New York Yankees are preparing for their next game in Cleveland, Ohio against the Indians on Wednesday July 28, 2010.

The New York Yankees have been faced with many concerns this past week, and the recent injury to their starting pitcher does not help. Andy Pettitte is suffering from a grade one tear to his left hamstring which will leave him out of the starting rotation for awhile. Pettitte will be missing up to six starts, while Sergio Mitre will attempt to take his spot in the rotation.

Last year Mitre was faced with a similar situation, but did not perform that great. In the nine games he started, he had a 3-3 record and a 7.16 ERA. However Mitre was just coming back from Tommy John surgery, which normally would pose as a problem for pitchers returning to the game. Also, he pitched so well in spring training that people though he would be able to win the number five spot in the Yankees’ lineup.

Since 2003 Mitre has pitched for 388 innings, and in those innings he allowed 232 runs, 47 homers, walked 130 batters, and struck out a promising 237 batters. In 2007 Mitre pitched his first and only full season since 2003. His ERA was a career best that year as he posted a 4.65.

Hopefully Mitre will be able to put the past aside as the Yankees gear up for a quick two games against the Angels in the Bronx. The New York Yankees will play their next game at Yankee Stadium against the LA Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday, July 20, 2010.

Alex Rodriguez and Joe Torre have apparently settled their differences. Rodriguez’s former New York Yankees manager and Rodriguez himself seemed to have ended their beef before Sunday nights game. The game lasted 10 innings, but in the end the New York Yankees beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-6. The Yankees won two games out of the three in the series.

The feud stems from when Torre wrote his book in 2007 that made critical comments about Rodriguez. Torre wrote “When it comes to a key situation, he can’t get himself to concern himself with getting the job done, instead of how it looks.”

A-Rod decided to bury the hatchet and approached Torre on Sunday, shaking his hand and speaking to him for almost a minute. Rodriguez told the New York Daily News that he thought it would be a mature move if he went over to talk to him. He said, “I felt in my heart it was important to not let things linger.”

The New York Yankees will host their next game against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

Tonight the New York Yankees will be heading into a Subway Series against the New York Mets, but they are not entering it the way they would have hoped to. The Yankees are coming off of two straight losses to the Philadelphia Phillies at Yankee Stadium.

On Wednesday night the Yankees lost 6-3, and Jamie Moyer of the Phillies became the oldest pitcher to beat the Yankees. Then last night the Yankees were not able to get their act together, and ended up losing 7-1.

Hopefully the Yankees are ready to put up a fight when they host their neighbors tonight going into the Subway Series. This three-game series will most likely be very competitive on both teams’ ends. The Yankees are hoping to salvage a win after being defeated by the Phillies, and the Mets are on fire on the road after winning six games in a row over Cleveland and Baltimore.

The Yankees do have something to their advantage, as Alex Rodriguez will return to third base tonight. He has not played this position since June 10 when he suffered from a strained right hip flexor after the first inning. Due to his injury Rodriguez missed four games, only to return on Wednesday night. He has played two games since his return, and has an RBI double, seven at bats, and two hits.

The New York Yankees will play their next game against the New York Mets tonight on Friday, June 18, 2010.

The New York Yankees just recently ended a four-game series against the Cleveland Indians. The Yankees opened the series with a 8-2 win over the Indians.

The Yankees achieved this forceful win with lots of help from Robinson Cano, who hit a grand slam to score 4 points for the Yankees. The bases were loaded with a single, a double, and walk which set up Cano’s grand slam that he hit on his first pitch. This was Cano’s third grand slam in his career.

Another notable player in the series opener was right handed pitcher Phil Hughes. He played well for seven innings, only giving up two runs. He struck out the first five players of the game, and had a total of eight strike outs by the end of the night.

New York went on to win three out of the four games against Celeveland, but they were all high scoring games. Both teams put up a great fight in all four of the games, but the Yankees clearly came out the winner.

The New York Yankees will play their next game against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

The center fielder for the New York Yankees will begin a rehab stint in the minor leagues.

On May 1 Granderson suffered from a strain of the groin during the Yankees’ 7-6 loss against the White Sox. The injury occurred while he was running from first to third base in the sixth inning. He has missed 18 games since then, but the Yankees are hoping he heals by this weekend.

Curtis Granderson will start his rehab assignment on Saturday where he will be the designated hitter. The plan for the rest of the five-game stint consists of him alternating positions where Sunday he will play outfield, Wednesday he will be the DH again, back to the outfield on Tuesday with a day off on Wednesday. On Thursday, after his off day he will be playing in the first game of a double header.

The rehab assignment is designed to get Curtis back to the Yankees for their weekend series against the Cleveland Indians in the Bronx.

The New York Yankees will begin their next three game series on Tuesday, May 25 against the Twins in Minnesota before Granderson returns to the team on Saturday.

Nick Johnson, designated hitter for the New York Yankees, endured surgery on his right wrist on Tuesday. On Saturday the general manager of the Yankees mentioned that Johnson might have been in need of surgery, and sure enough on Tuesday he had his wrist operated on.

After the Yankees’ game on May 7 at Fenway Park, Johnson was experiencing soreness in his right wrist. He received a cortisone shot after the game, and the Yankees waited to see if the shot would work.

After the cortisone did not work, Johnson decided to have the surgery. Johnson was diagnosed with an inflamed tendon, and the surgery was to remove the inflamed tissue from his right wrist.

The 31-year old was told that he will need to rest for a minimum of four to six weeks before returning to the field. Joe Girardi, the Yankees’ manager mentioned that the surgery “is not a quick fix,” and that he is not expecting Johnson to return until late in the summer.

The New York Yankees will play their next game without Nick Johnson as the designated hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, May 20, 2010.

According to a study done last week, the players of New York Yankees are the highest paid players in a global sport in the world. The “Review of Global Sports Salaries” study produced their figures in pounds, and has the Yankees players listed at an average salary of 4.7 million pounds, which is about $7 million.

The team with the second highest paid players is the Real Madrid soccer team of Spain at 4.2 million pounds or $6.3 million. The third highest paid players are the Barcelona soccer team, while the fourth is the Premier League club Chelsea. The rest of top 10 is completed with all teams from the NBA including the Dallas Mavericks, LA Lakers, and the number 10 New York Knicks.

The salaries for the Yankees are of the starters, and do not include any commercial deals with major companies that they may have. The figures were found from the 2009 season, as are the six NBA teams on the top ten, but the soccer club teams figures’ are from 2008.

The New York Yankees will have their opening day game on April 13, 2010 at Yankee Stadium against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. See the highest played athletes at their best!

Phil Hughes has officially been chosen as the New York Yankees’ fifth starter. Manager Joe Giardi and his coaching staff finalized the decision on Wednesday. Giardi then made the announcement on Thursday that revealed the solution to the biggest decision for the Yankees’ of the spring.

Last season Hughes pitched in 51 games of which he started in seven. The 23-year-old posted an ERA of 3.03 with an 8-3 record for the season. During spring training for this year he did give up five home runs, but otherwise he was able to keep runners off base pretty well.

The announcement put an end to a competition between Phil Hughes, Alfredo Aceves, Joba Chamberlain, Sergio Mitre, and Chad Gaudin that lasted a total of six weeks. This was considered a big set back for Chamberlin who was passed up for the number five spot. Gaudin was the final candidate in the running for the number five slot in the Yankees rotation, but was released on Thursday.

The New York Yankees will have their opening day game on April 13, 2010 at Yankee Stadium against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

New York Yankees super stars, Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter, are due for new contracts after the 2010 baseball season. The Yankees will also have to handle the deal for manager Joe Giardi. However according to team policy their possible contract extensions will not be discussed until after this season.

Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer in the history of baseball. Throughout his career he has 502 saves, and he is only one out of two relievers who can say they have at least 500 saves. Also throughout his career has has a 2.29 ERA. Rivera had a great season in 2009 because he converted 39 out of 40 save chances with an ERA of 1.40. There is no doubt that he is an excellent asset to the Yankees. He makes strike outs, barely walks batters, and hardly ever lets extra-base hits occur.

Derek Jeter is also entering his final season of his 10-year contract with New York. He said he understood the team’s policy of not negotiating new contracts until the current deal is over. Nonetheless, Jeter has made it clear many of times that he wants to be a Yankee for life. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is the only organization I ever wanted to play for. It’s still the only organization I want to play for. I can’t say it enough times,” said Jeter.

The New York Yankees will have their opening day game on April 13, 2010 at Yankee Stadium against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, and Joe Giardi are all entering the final year of their contracts, and their deals will not be negotiated until this season is over. Don’t miss your chance to see them in action.

Baseball’s big 2010 Opening Day is less than one month away. Spring training is already underway in order to prepare the New York Yankees for their 2010 return to the field.

Opening Day is always a big event for every baseball team, but this year is particularly special for the Yankees. This is the first home game after winning last years’ World Series Championship. This season also marks the final season of Derek Jeter’s contract with New York.

Fans of the Yankees are hoping on back to back World Series Titles, and in early February the co-chairman of the Yankees spoke highly of their chances. Hank Steinbrenner said this strong sense of belief came from the changes to the roster in the offseason.

The New York Yankees baseball franchise has been providing fans with amazing ball games since 1923. With 27 World Series Championships to their name, the Yankees are now known as the most successful team in baseball history.

The New York Yankees will have their opening day game on April 13, 2010 at Yankee Stadium against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

This season, Derek Jeter will be entering his final year of his contract with the New York Yankees. At the end of this season Derek Jeter and the Yankees will be getting together in order to negotiate a new contract. However, the negotiation might begin to become difficult because of a few reasons.

There are two main questions on everyone’s mind. One, as Derek Jeter becomes older, and his defensive skills start to take a dive, will the Yankees think about moving him from his shortstop position? And two, will Jeter urge to be paid as much as Alex Rodriguez? Both of these questions could potentially lead to problems as the contract is negotiated at the end of the 2010 season.

Although these may lead to difficulties, one thing is for sure. Derek Jeter has made it extremely clear that he would remain a Yankee for life. The Yankees are lucky to have a player such as Jeter who is as team oriented as he is.

The New York Yankees won their 27th World Series title this past season, and left pitcher Andy Pettitte to decide if he wanted to leave the MLB with a bang by retiring as a World Series champ. Although Pettitte was taking that into consideration, he decided that he was not quite ready to say good-bye to the game just yet.

On Friday Andy Pettitte spoke about retiring and said, “I want to make sure that I don’t go home and miss it, that it’s killing me not to be here. When I do it, I want to be done with it. I don’t think it would be fair to my family to say that I’m done and then pull the rug out from underneath them. I want to make sure I’ve fully exhausted myself of this.” Neither the Yankees, nor Andy Pettitte himself see an end, which led them to agree that his return will only be a yearly review.

Last season before the Yankees won the American League East the 37-year-old left hander went 14-8 and only gave up an average of 4.16 runs per game. As the postseason ended, he earned his fifth World Series ring, while finishing the postseason going 4-0 with a 3.52 ERA. Including each clincher in the postseason of 2009, Pettitte has 229 wins under his belt. Pettitte is key for the Yankees whenever they are under pressure.

The New York Yankees co-chairman, Hank Steinbrenner, believes that the Yankees may be on their way to another World Series Championship this year. In Tampa, Florida on Thursday Steinbrenner spoke very highly of the Yankees’ general manager, Brian Chashman, and the players he added to the team during the offseason. He gained a strong sense of belief in the Yankees after they added outfielder Curtis Granderson and pitcher Javier Vazquez to their roster.

Center fielder, Curtis Granderson was obtained from the Detroit Tigers. He was a 2009 American League All-Star, and will be playing at center field where Melky Cabrera once played. Cabrera was sent to the Braves in the trade made by Brian Cashman, which included the Yankees aqcuiring Javier Vazquez.

From the Atlanta Braves, Javier Vazquez joined the team and was added to the pitching rotation for the Yankees which includes CC Sabathia, Andy Pettitte, A.J. Burnett, and a fifth starter who has not been decided yet. New York is hoping that Vazquez will keep them from needing to rely on a three-man rotation like they needed to in the postseason and the World Series.

The Yankees also made other additions during the off season. They added outfielder Randy Winn, and designated hitter Nick Johnson, but also said goodbye to some great players such as Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon.

Johnny Damon of the New York Yankees has a tough decision to make, and he is running out of time to make it. The Yankees and Damon had a conversation once again, and this time he was given the weekend to decide if he wants to return to the Yankees. If Damon were to decide that he wanted to come back to New York it would be on a bargain deal.

After Johnny Damon helped the Yankees win their 27th world Series with 100 runs, 24 of them being home runs, he thought he deserved a good deal. In December, Damon asked the Yankees for $20 million on a two-year deal. However, the Yankees signed Nick Johnson at that time and declined Damon his $20 million deal.

It is not looking good for Damon’s acceptance of a low-base contract from the Yankees, and low base would mean less than $5 million. His run with the Yankees may be officially ending early next week. There has been some talk of possible teams Damon may go to including The Giants, the Tigers, and the Braves.

The New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 and leveled the best of 7 set of the World Series to 1-1.

The reigning World Series champions were no match for the Yankees’ pitcher, A.J. Burnett, on Thursday night at the new Yankees’ stadium in the Bronx. Burnett stopped the top 4 Phillies’ hitters, who went 0-for-10 against him. Burnett struck out nine batters and only allowed 4 hits in seven innings, making this his best pitching game of the post season. This was also his first ever World Series appearance.

Mark Teixiera blasted a solo homer in the fourth inning off a high change up by Pedro Martinez to even the score 1-1. Hideki Matsui hit his 8th US career playoff homer to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the 6th inning.

Unfortunately for the second night in a row, Yankees playoff star Alex Rodriguez had three strike outs, continuing his World Series slump to 0-for-8.

Starting today, the series shifts to Philadelphia for games three through five where Cole Hamels is set to face Andy Pettitte. In 40 World Series appearances the New York Yankees have won 26 titles, which is twice as many as the Philadelphia Phillies.

The New York Yankees finished off their sweep of the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, October 11 and are another step closer to winning their 27th World Series title. This 4-1 victory over the Twins was their first playoff series win in 5 years. The 4-1 win for the Yankees was game 3 in the AL Division Series, and was also the final major league game to be played inside of the Metrodome before the Twins move to Target Field next season.

The Yankees were scoreless until the 7th inning when they were able to overcome strong pitching by former teammate Carl Pavano. Home runs by Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada took the first steps to the 4-1 victory over the Twins. Mariano Rivera ended the Twins’ season with the final four outs of the game and closed out Andy Pettitte’s 15th career postseason win.

For the first time since 2004, thanks to the three-game sweep against the Twins, the New York Yankees are now in the American League Championship Series. On Friday, October 16 the Yankees will play the Los Angeles Angels at Yankee Stadium to begin a best-of-seven set. This season the Yankees were 5-5 against the Angels, but in 2002 and 2005 the Angels were the team that eliminated the Yankees from the road to the World Series.

The New York Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Wednesday night at Angel Stadium. This was unfamiliar territory to the Yankees, as this was the first time since May 2004 that they went to the Angels’ house and beat them in a series. In 2002 and 2005 the New York Yankees were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Angels. After losing 18 of their last 23 games at Angel Stadium, the Yankees won back-to-back games this week.

The Yankees secured their spot in the playoffs with a little help from their pitchers.

A.J. Burnett had 11 strikeouts on Wednesday night, which is only 1 shy of matching his season high. He continues to make doubts about his readiness to pitch disappear by only allowing 3 runs over his last 12 2/3 innings pitched. He only allowed 7 hits and 2 runs before leaving Wednesday’s game in the sixth inning.

It took over a year for Yankees’ pitcher Ian Kennedy to come back to a major league pitching mound after surgery to remove an aneurysm below his right biceps. Ironically enough the last place he pitched for the Yankees was at Angel Stadium. He was a little rusty, as he loaded the bases by walking two batters and hitting another in the eighth inning.

That leaves him just 7 hits short of breaking the record.

It took one extra inning, but the New York Yankees won their opening game against the Chicago White Sox 5-2. C.C. Sabathia held the White Sox back for the first six innings, until they broke through to tie the game in the seventh. Jermaine Dye interrupted the shut out with a double and was able to score after another double from Alex Rios.

In the tenth inning with two outs, the New York Yankees were able to become victorious with a little help from a homer by Robinson Cano. The White Sox pitcher, Randy Williams, was successful in striking out two batters in the tenth inning before walking Hideki Matsui and Nick Swisher. This was the perfect set up for Robinson Cano’s three run game winning homer.

The New York Yankees could not have done it without homers from Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon earlier in the ball game. This was Jeter’s seventeenth home run of the year and 223rd of his career. Damon’s homer was his 23rd which leaves him one homer short of his career high from 2006.

After losing Saturday night’s game to the Boston Red Sox 14-1, the New York Yankees redeemed themselves during Sunday night’s game at Fenway Park. Although the New York Yankees lost their first eight games to their rivals, they were able to increase their lead in the American League East over the Boston Red Sox by seven games.

The lead off batter, Derek Jeter, started the game off with a homer, paving the way for the New York Yankees victory. This was Jeter’s twenty first home run of the season for the New York Yankees. Jeter’s incredible home run was his 2,700 career hit, and that leaves him in second place in career hits for the New York Yankees.

The New York Yankees hit a total of five glorious home runs off of Boston’s pitcher, Josh Beckett. For the second time this serious, Hideki Matsui hit two homers in one game. Alex Rodriquez and Robinson Cano also produced home runs for the New York Yankees, making the team unstoppable!

The New York Yankees seem to be on point, as the Red Sox seem to be in temporary discomposure. The rivals will meet again in New York on Friday, September 25. Grab some New York Yankees tickets to this, or any other game, now!

C.C. Sabathia guided the New York Yankees to a 7-2 victory against the Oakland Athletics Tuesday night at the Oakland Coliseum.

During the first two innings of Tuesday’s game it looked like the New York Yankees were headed toward their third straight loss. Luckily, Sabathia limited the Oakland Athletics to only two home runs before shutting them down, allowing the Oakland Athletics to only three hits and no runs over the final seven innings.

“I always want these guys to swing early in the count so I can go deeper in the game.” Sabathia said. “When they scored the two in the first two innings, I was just trying to keep it right there and let these guys come up to have a big inning. They did.” They certainly did, The New York Yankees took the lead in the sixth inning scoring a total of five runs, making the score of the ball game 7-2.

Tonight the New York Yankees will try to do it all over again when they play the Oakland Athletics for a final time in this series before squaring up against the Boston Red Sox on Friday.

Get yourself some New York Yankees tickets and see Sabathia lead the team to another victory.
