The Wellmont Theatre, located in Montclair, New Jersey was built in 1922. After originally being used as an actual theatre, in 1929 the Wellmont was converted into a theatre for major motion pictures.

Before the 1970′s the theatre was listed as having a seating capacity of 2,137. During the 70′s, the theatre underwent a major renovation. The entrance of the theatre was moved, which allowed the original lobby to become a diner. They also made the theatre into a multiplex. The orchestra seating in the original theatre became an auditorium equipped with two smaller screens.

In 2006 the Wellmont Theatre sadly closed. Two years later there were reports circulating that the theatre was sold, and the new owners were planning to reopen it for concerts, comedy acts, and other events. In 2008 the Wellmont Theatre had more renovations completed. The triplex was removed and it once again became a single screen theatre. On November 1, 2008 the theatre re-opened as a concert venue.
