Broadway’s Biggest Success

It is a pretty difficult task to find a person who has not seen Disney’s “The Lion King.” The movie’s excellent animation, story, and music took the world by storm. The intricacies make it hard to believe that it could be transformed into a Broadway play. However Disney On Broadway did just that, going on to win 6 Tony Awards and break several box office records.

The transition from the movie to the play employed the use of beautiful costumes, countless actors, and breathtaking sets. Broadway’s Best: The Lion King

After 14 years, and $4 billion dollars The Lion King is still one of the most amazing Broadway show’s ever. Based on the 1994 Disney classic film with the same name, the show was transformed from an animated movie to high energy stage production used as entertainment for audiences of all ages.

In 1997 when the show opened on Broadway, it had a fresh feel that did not resemble any other shows before it. When the show debuted, the musical was the winner of Best Musical, Best Choreography, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Costume Design, and two other awards.

To this day The Lion King continues to perform to sold out audiences, and break records at the Minskoff Theater, which should come as no surprise. The Lion King does a supreme job of making the audience feel as if they’re in the jungle.

Humans dressed with amazing headdresses would prance around the stage, as it brings the Disney film to life. The amazing costumes and masks the characters wear enhance the story, and will keep you captivated throughout the entire show.

Lion King About to Reach 5,000th Performance on Broadway

On Thursday, November 5 at the Minskoff Theatre Disney’s The Lion King will celebrate it’s 5,000th Broadway performance. The Lion King will be the 9th musical to ever reach this milestone, and is the 9th longest-running musical in Broadway history.

This Broadway musical is entering it’s 13th year as the first musical to ever welcome 50 million guests. Since the start of the show, grossing over $700 million, The Lion King has consistently been in the top five grossing shows.

The lion king Mufasa is played by Nathaniel Stampley while his cunning brother, Scar is played by Derek Smith. Rafiki, the wise baboon, is played by Tshidi Mayne. The role of Zazu is played by Cameron Pow. Timon and Pumba are portrayed by Tom Alan Robbins and Danny Rutigliano.

Simba is played by Dashaun Young, and Simba’s younger version is played by Alphonso Romero Jones II and Marquis Kofi Rodriguez. The role of young Nala is shared between Shannon Skye Tavarez and Shereen Pimentel. While Ta’Rea Campbell plays the loyal lioness Nala.

The score features orginal songs by Elton John and Tim Rice that were featured in the animated film version. John and Rice have written three new songs for the musical verison. In addtion, there is also music inspired by “Rhythm of the Pride Lands” from the film.
