Philadelphia Eagles Acquire Linebacker Ernie Sims

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

The Philadelphia Eagles needed someone to fill a linebacker position, and they fixed that by acquiring Ernie Sims from Detroit while giving up a fifth-round draft choice. The deal was made in a three-way NFL trade which involved the Denver Broncos as well as the Detroit Lions.

Ernie Sims is currently in the concluding year of his rookie contract, and according to sources the Eagles are looking to make him a long-term commitment for the team. Sims has only been with the NFL for four seasons, and he has played all four seasons as a Lion.

The 6′ 225-pound linebacker started every game for his first three seasons while averaging 124 tackles a season. He has played 59 career games, and in those 59 games he has one interception, 2 1/2 sacks, and 420 tackles.

It seems as though the Eagles have been able to fill all of their essential needs for their team, yet have 10 selections in the 2010 draft.

The Philadelphia Eagles will host their first preseason game on Friday, August 13, 2010 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Eagles’ regular season starts on Sunday, September 12, 2010 against Green Bay at the Lincoln Financial Field.

NFC Championship Game Preview

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

In week 13, the Eagles were just beginning to peak when they hosted the Arizona Cardinals. The Eagles absolutely dominated that game and sent the Cards back to Sun Valley after putting up just shy of 50 points on them as they won 48-20. But that was then. This is now.

The Cardinals struggled throughout the regular season when playing on the east coast, not only going winless, but being dominated in almost every trip to the East coast. But, alas, that was then. This weekend’s contest will see the Cardinals host the Eagles in the friendly confines of the University of Phoenix Stadium.

Both of these teams are coming off of huge “upsets” as the Eagles snuck past their most bitter rivals, the New York Giants, while the Cardinals pulled off an improbably thumping of the Panthers in Carolina. This game is sure to be equally as exciting as both teams have the ability to put up some serious points.

Whether you are a fan of the Arizona Cardinals, or the Philadelphia Eagles, grab some tickets and watch the NFL Playoffs up close and personal!

NFL Divisional Playoff Predictions

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Well, I did pretty well last week. Let’s see what I can do now that the big boys (Giants, Panthers, Titans, and Steelers) are in the picture.

I’ll go with the AFC first:

Defense anyone? When San Diego visits Pittsburgh, we’re in for the NFL’s version of a pitcher duel. Don’t expect a lot of offense but expect some big hits, interceptions and great special teams play. I’ve got the Steelers winning it 14-3.

No, seriously. Defense anyone? The AFC is all about the D right now and when The Titans host Baltimore, there will be more. The Titans have been the best defensive team in the league this year and the Ravens are no slouches themselves. Though Baltimore will show up to play, I think the Titans win it 24-17.

As for the NFC:

The New York Giants are the defending champs and the Philadelphia Eagles are perhaps their biggest rival. I really think this could go either way, but I believe that the Champs are the Champs until someone beats them. I think the Giants will prevail 31-24.

Arizona does not play well on the road. Carolina is about 2,000 miles away from Phoenix, so don’t expect much from Warner and Co. I think it could get ugly or the Cardinals while the Panthers will turn it up a notch. Carolina 35 Arizona 17

NFC Round One Results

Monday, December 29th, 2008

The NFC may not always have the best teams in the NFL, but they certainly have most of the larger markets, which means that the NFC playoffs are among the most watched post season sporting events each year. This year will be no different.

The Wilcard round of the NFC playoffs pitted four large market teams against each other for the right to take on the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers in the Divisional round.

The first matchup saw the turn-around Atlanta Falcons attempt to unseat the NFC West winning Arizona Cardinals. The story of the game was the two MVP candidates, 23 year old Rookie Matt Ryan and 37 year old veteran Kurt Warner who have each lead their teams to improbable seasons. Arizona won the matchup in a close 30-24 ballgame.

The other NFC contest saw the NFC North winners, Minnesota Vikings play host to the tough and talented Philadelphia Eagles. Despite home field advantage, the Vikings couldn’t hold off the Eagles as Donovan and Co got it done.

Next up: Philadelphia at New York and Arizona at Carolina. Stay Tuned!

Defense Rules in Washington Win

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

It may not have been a crowd pleaser, but the Washington Redskins got the job done on Sunday with a 10-3 win over Philadelphia in Washington, DC. The win puts the Redskins a half game behind the Eagles in the NFC East. Neither team has a great chance at making the playoffs as neither of them control their own destiny at this point.

In a game that was dominated by defense, the lone spotlight shown on Clinton Portis, whose one yard plunge in the third quarter was the difference in the game. Portis finished with 70 yards and a touchdown, which although not great, made him the clear difference maker in the contest.

Both of these teams are still clinging to playoff hopes, and wins in week 17 and a little luck could make the difference. Grab some Philadelphia Eagles tickets, or Washington Redskins tickets and watch them fight in week 17.

Eagles look to Continue Hot Streak

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

When the Eagles battle the Browns on this weekend’s edition of Monday Night Football, they Eagles will have a clearer picture of where they stand in the NFC East race with the Cowboys and Redskins and the New York Giants, who have already clinched the division title.

Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook have been monsters these past few weeks as they have powered their way into the second place spot in the division behind tremendous efforts by their two star players.

Cleveland’s 4-9 record may indicate that they don’t offer too huge of a challenge for the Eagles, but you can never underestimate the power of a regional rivalry in the NFL. You just never know when a team like Cleveland might turn it on and make a game out of it. If you are in the area, this will definitely be a great game to watch on Monday night, so go grab some Philadelphia Eagles tickets and try and stay warm.

Eagles Continue to Soar, Beating the Best in the NFL

Monday, December 8th, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles have definitely earned the “Most Improved” award for their efforts in pushing their team through diversity and into the upper echelon of the NFL in the second half of the season this year.

After starting 3-3 before their Mid October bye week, the Eagles have gone 4-2-1 including wins over division rivals New York that avenged an earlier five point loss in November. It’s hard to argue against the Giants as the best team in the NFL, and Philly’s 20-14 victory over them on Sunday says a lot about the improvements they’ve made and their standing in the NFC East.

Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook have been absolute monsters for Philadelphia’s offense while their defense has kept other team out of the games and allowed their offense to do their work. If you’re looking for an exciting team with real playoff chances, grab some Philadelphia Eagles tickets and cheer them on.

McNabb, Westbrook, Eagles, Pummel Cardinals

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Philadelphia Eagles fans had a lot to be happy for on Thursday as their team pounded Arizona 48-20 behind remarkable performances by Brian Westbrook and Donovan McNabb. Westbrook racked up 110 yards rushing, and 20 receiving but also scored four touchdowns for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, QB Donovan McNabb threw for four touchdowns of his own as he was 27-39 for 260 yards. The win was just what the doctor ordered for Philadelphia as they climbed to 6-5 -1 on the year only two games out of second place in the NFC East.

The Redskins and Cowboys recent success coupled with the Giants unbelievable season means that the NFC East is as tough a division as you’ll find in the NFL this year and could spell heartbreak for the Eagles.
With games like they had on Thursday, however they should be able to make a run. Fan support is always a plus, so grab some Philadelphia Eagles tickets and cheer on the E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles!

Eagles Face Tough Test in Ravens

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

In the wild, the eagle is definitely considered among the toughest of birds, but when speaking of defensive football, it’s the Ravens who have proven themselves to be the elite. Baltimore and Philadelphia face off this weekend in an intra-conference rivalry that means a lot for both teams.

Donovan McNabb and the Eagles are sitting at the bottom of the NFC east, but they are only one game out of 2nd place and their playoffs hopes are by no means dashed. Hopefully their tie last weekend against Cincinnati won’t come back to haunt them.

Meanwhile, the Ravens are in a more comfortable position in second place in the AFC North and would more than likely be in the post season if they started today. The Ravens have used their defense to get it done so far as they hold opponents to 18 points per game.

This weekend’s matchup is likely to be a physical, tough battle, so find some Philadelphia Eagles tickets and go check it out!

Eagles Face Huge Test Against Giants

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Donovan McNabb has been a pleasant surprise this year, so far, as have the entire Philadelphia Eagles team. Unfortunately, they play in the toughest division in the NFC. In addition to their opponent this week, the New York Giants, the Eagles also have to fight the tough Washington Redskins in order to get over the hurdle known as the NFC East.

This Sunday’s contest is a great opportunity for Philadelphia to make a run at the top of the division as the 5-3 Eagles face the 7-1 Giants with (perhaps) the Eagle’s mid-season playoff hopes on the line. Both teams are riding a three-game winning streak going into the weekend for what should be a dog fight.

If you are in the Philadelphia area this weekend, this may be a great opportunity for you to enjoy a mid-season NFL game with a whole lot on the line. Grab some Philadelphia Eagles tickets now and be a part of the NFC East division’s “separation Sunday”.

Philly Native Comes Home, Looks to Soar Over Eagles

Friday, October 24th, 2008

When Matt Ryan was growing up in Philadelphia, he was and Eagles fan, after High School graduation, he continued to be a fan of the team as he himself became a part of the Eagles – the Boston College variety, however. During the 2007 NFL draft, he was chosen to represent another avian creature, as he became a Quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons.

Ryan has made quite the journey from high school, to Heisman hopeful, to starting quarterback in the NFL and the next stop on his journey is back in Philadelphia as the Falcons and Eagles go after each other this Sunday in an important NFC contest for both teams.

Philadelphia Eagles tickets should be slightly easier to come by this week as the big competition will be game three of the World Series as the beloved Phillies take on Tampa Bay in the go-ahead game in the Fall Classic. If you’re in the Philadelphia are, this could be a great opportunity to take your family to a fall-weather football game in Philadelphia.

Eagles Get it Done Against Scrappy ’9ers

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb were both on record as saying that their week six matchup with San Francisco was a huge one for their team who are looking to rise from relative mediocrity after a so-so start to the season.

Leading 17-16 at half time, they Eagles were looking for signs of life from their offense as well as some sort of stability in their defense. They found both in the 4th quarter as McNabb led the Eagles to victory 40-26. It was that 4th quarter, in which the Eagles outscored the 49ers 23-0 that made all the difference after San Francisco took a 26-10 lead after outscoring Philadelphia 10-0 in the 3rd.

Without their star running back, Brian Westbrook, the Eagles were faced with uncertainty of how their offense would click, but McNabb, who himself was ailing, made it happen – completing 23 of 36 pass attempts for 278 yards and two touch downs. He also threw one interception.

Up next for the Eagles and McNabb: a much deserved bye week, which will allow their wounds to heal a bit as they prepare for Atlanta in two weeks.

Philly fans have a lot to be proud of right now, so grab some Philadelphia Eagles Tickets and get ready to yell!

Eagles Look to Bounce Back in San Francisco

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Entering the 2008 season, it looked as though the Eagles had everything on track to potentially get back into the post season for the first time since 2004, when they made it to the Super Bowl. After all, it looked like Donovan McNabb was healthy, they had an absolute star at running back with Brian Westbrook, they had a solid receiving core, and a stout defense. What more could they want?

Well, in perfect Philly fashion, they have managed to underachieve and have gotten off to a mediocre 2-3 start with losses to Dallas, Chicago, and Washington. What’s worse is that Donovan McNabb, for the most part, has not been living up to expectations, Brian Westbrook has a rib injury that could sideline him for a few weeks, and the receiving core has not been living up to their lofty expectations.

Following back-to-back losses against Chicago and Washington, the Eagles are looking to bounce back and prove that they deserve to be among the top teams in the NFC. Grab some Philadelphia Eagles tickets and support the team in their quest to regain dominance in the National Football League.
