Philadelphia Eagles Acquire Linebacker Ernie Sims
Friday, April 23rd, 2010The Philadelphia Eagles needed someone to fill a linebacker position, and they fixed that by acquiring Ernie Sims from Detroit while giving up a fifth-round draft choice. The deal was made in a three-way NFL trade which involved the Denver Broncos as well as the Detroit Lions.
Ernie Sims is currently in the concluding year of his rookie contract, and according to sources the Eagles are looking to make him a long-term commitment for the team. Sims has only been with the NFL for four seasons, and he has played all four seasons as a Lion.
The 6′ 225-pound linebacker started every game for his first three seasons while averaging 124 tackles a season. He has played 59 career games, and in those 59 games he has one interception, 2 1/2 sacks, and 420 tackles.
It seems as though the Eagles have been able to fill all of their essential needs for their team, yet have 10 selections in the 2010 draft.
The Philadelphia Eagles will host their first preseason game on Friday, August 13, 2010 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Eagles’ regular season starts on Sunday, September 12, 2010 against Green Bay at the Lincoln Financial Field.
