NY Red Bulls Sign Rafael Marquez

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Just two days after being released by Barcelona, Rafael Marquez signed with the New York Red Bulls. Today the former captain of the Mexican national team joined Major League Soccer. Not only did he join the Red Bulls, but he also paired up with Thierry Henry, his former Barcelona teammate.

The 31-year old Mexican national league captain scored 11 goals in 94 matches with Mexico. At this year’s world cup Marquez scored against South Africa, and at the 2002 World Cup he was sent off the field after head butting USA’s Cobi Jones.

Marquez played in 242 matches with Barcelona, and scored 13 goals. He helped them to win numerous championships including four Spanish league championships, two Champion League titles, a European Supercup, and a Copa del Rey trophy.

Juventus Striker to Join New York Red Bulls

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

The New York Red Bulls have a star from the Juventus Football Club who is hoping to join the team in a year’s time. Striker David Trezeguet has to ride out his final year remaining on his contract with Juventus before joining MLS.

Previously Trezeguet was linked with a summer exit, but as of now it seems as though he will be staying in Italy for the next season. However, according to his agent Trezeguet is making moves in order to team back up with Thierry Henry, his former France and Monaco teammate once his contract has ended.

Antonio Caliendo, Trezeguet’s agent spoke about his future plans and said, “we have received several offers and the one the player likes most is that of the New York Red Bulls. There he will meet up with (Thierry) Henry.”

Not only is Trezeguet showing interest in coming to the New York Red Bulls, but the Red Bulls are also one of the many teams interested in the Frenchman for when his contract expires. The New York Red Bulls will play their next match in Houston, Texas against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, July 31, 2010.

Red Bull Rumors Circulating

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

The FIFA World Cup is currently taking place now, but the New York Red Bulls are still gaining attention regarding the possible addition of a new star player to their roster when the World Cup is over.

New York sports share an interesting goal, and that goal is to be on the back page of one of New York’s tabloid newspapers at least once. The Red Bulls have never really had a chance to have as big of a place in tabloid history as desired, but they seem to be making efforts in order to achieve this goal.

The Red Bulls started out by creating an ad for the back page of their own magazine, the Red Bulletin, which came free with Sunday’s edition of The New York Times. The ad states “100 Rumors. 50 Names. 1 Star,” and features a man in a Red Bulls uniform holding a soccer ball with a blurry face.

The ad is in response to rumor circulating about who the Red Bulls will sign after the World Cup. The most persistent rumor is that Thierry Henry, a French striker, will be joining the team, while others are saying that free agent Michael Ballack will be the new star player.

Once the World Cup is over, Major League Soccer will start up again, and the Red Bulls may have a new star player.

Thierry Henry Joins Red Bulls

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Thierry Henry will be joining the New York Red Bulls. It has been confirmed by a league source that the 35 year old soccer player will be likely joining the Red Bulls after the World Cup. Dietrick Mateschitz, co-founder of the Red Bulls created a contract for Henry that not only entails playing in games, but promotional duties as well.

This weekend Thierry Henry will be finishing up his season with Spanish La Liga club Barcelona, and then he will be playing for France in South Africa during the World Cup on June 11-July 11.

Since Barcelona’s striker has only been able to score four goals in 15 league appearances, it seems as though he is falling through the cracks. Only a short time ago Joan Laporta, Barcelona president, told reporters that Henry could leave the club in the summer, and was free to do so.

However, Henry still has lots of soccer in him as he was rated the top player in the world last November. The New York Red Bulls could use Thierry Henry as a positive asset to their team.

The Red Bulls will play their next match on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the Red Bull Arena against Juventus FC.

On Saturday night the New York Red Bulls lost 1-0 to the San Jose Earthquakes. They suffered this defeat at Buck Shaw Stadium in front of a sellout crowd of 10,525.
