We’re all familiar with the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, named the most-watched motion picture by the Library of Congress. The musical Wicked, based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, is a parallel to the classic film.

Instead of following Dorothy in her quest to return to Kansas the musical tells the stories of the witches of the Land of Oz. The plot begins well before Dorothy’s arrival, when Elphaba, an outcast with green skin, and Galinda, a popular and charismatic beauty, were just two unlikely friends. Rivalry ensues between the two friends over opposing beliefs and a shared love-interest, which leads to Elphaba becoming the Wicked Witch of the West.

The musical, called “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” by the New York Times, has come a long way since its premiere on Broadway in October of 2003. It has since opened up five other North American productions, two national tours, and a number of international productions in places like Japan and Germany.

Holding world box office records around the world, Wicked is quickly becoming a popular culture addiction. It’s a fascinating take on the original tale and a great show for anyone who couldn’t get enough of the wonderful world of Oz.

Since the mid-1960’s, pop/rock band Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons have been an internationally popular American musical group, known for time-tested hits such as “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like a Man”. The story of the legendary Four Seasons is now on Broadway depicted in the hit musical “Jersey Boys”.

With music developed by former Four Seasons member Bob Gaudio, lyrics by producer Bob Crewe and book developed by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, Jersey Boys has received four Tony Awards, including “Best Musical” (2006) since its 2005 Broadway debut.

The story of Jersey Boys follows former Four Seasons members Matt Bogart (played by Nick Massi), Bob Gaudio (Ryan Jesse), Tommy DeVito (Dominic Nolfi) and Frankie Valli (Jarrod Spector) throughout their rags-to-riches life stories. While depicting their development as a musical group, Jersey Boys portrays the personal struggles of the New Jersey natives such as family tragedies, financial struggles and Mafia involvement.

Though Jersey Boys is based on a fast-paced story telling aspect, it is also filled with countless Four Seasons musical classics, such as “December 1963 (Oh What a Night!)” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You”. The intersection of nostalgic music, gripping story lines and Broadway quality performances makes it an enjoyable production for everyone.

To see the performance that draws fans in time and time again, order Jersey Boys Tickets from Select-A-Ticket!

The musical “Follies” debuted on Broadway in 1971 and has since been nominated for eleven Tony Awards, winning seven of them. “Follies” tells the story of a reunion amongst former performers in the musical revue Weismann’s Follies, who were active during the time period between World War I and World War II.

Staged in a run-down Broadway theatre, the plot focuses on two former Follies showgirls Sally and Phyllis and their troubled marriages with respective husbands. Sally and her husband Buddy must cope with Buddy’s affair with another woman, as well as Sally’s residual feelings for her past love Ben – who is also Phyllis’ husband. Simultaneously, Phyllis and Ben struggle with Phyllis’ feelings of emotional abandonment by the self-absorbed Ben.

However, both Sally and Phyllis share an awakening of how much they have changed since their days in the Weismann’s Follies. It is quite literally illustrated by the ghostly images of the women’s younger selves which are present throughout the performance.

Though the production has been altered over the course of its existence, several musical numbers have remained consistent in Follies, such as “Broadway Baby”, “I’m Still Here” and “Losing My Mind”. These legendary songs, as well as the thoughtfully prepared story line, have made Follies one of the most well-known Broadway productions.

Set in a Greek Island paradise, the musical Mamma Mia! tells the story of 20-year old Sophie’s search for her biological father to walk her down the aisle at her upcoming wedding. After reading her mother’s diary, Sophie narrows the choices down to three very different men.

The search becomes more intense when the men encounter Donna, Sophie’s mother and their former lover, and a tangled web of love, emotions and suspense ensues.

Though the plot is a fictional story written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, the musical numbers are based on songs by the Swedish pop/dance band ABBA. Several former ABBA members contributed to development of the music, including Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, to recreate the bands hits such as “Dancing Queen”, “Super Trooper” and “Lay All Your Love on Me”.

For ABBA fans and musical fans alike, however, Mamma Mia! has proven itself to be an upbeat and compelling performance for audiences. As of 2011, the musical has been performed in countless countries around the world and in 16 different languages. Its international success demonstrates that the fun and energetic performance is appealing to all varieties of audiences.

Selectaticket.com is offering tickets to Mamma Mia! in numerous locations such as New York, NY and Portland, OR.

One of history’s most notorious con artists has taken over the Broadway stage.

The new Broadway show, Catch Me If You Can is an entertaining musical comedy based on the 2002 blockbuster movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. Like the hit DreamWorks film the Broadway version also tells the intriguing tale of Frank Abagnale Jr., who became one of the the most successful con men in America at just 16 years old.

This astounding true story is brought to life on stage with a little help from rising Broadway star Aaron Tveit (Wicked, Next to Normal) and his portrayal of Frank. Tveit has taken on the challenging role of being undeniably charming, confident, and imaginative while successfully posing as a doctor, airline pilot, and even a lawyer.

Joining Tveit on stage is the rest of the amazing cast, which includes Tony Award nominee, Kerry Butler (Hairspray, Xanadu) who plays Frank’s love interest. Additionally, Broadway favorite Norbert Leo Butz plays Carl Hanratty, the FBI agent who will not quit until Frank is caught.

The creative team behind this musical, along with the fabulous cast prove that they have the perfect recipe of contributors. Director Jack O’Brien seamlessly ties together all aspects of creativity, including the exceptional book by Terrance McNally, which is complemented by the work of Jerry Mitchell the choreographer, and costumes by William Ivey Long.

Catch Me If You Can has scheduled performances Tuesday through Sunday at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York City. This amazing musical comedy has acquired numerous rave reviews, so don’t miss your chance to see why!

The leading lady who originally played the starring role in Mary Poppins has returned to grace the Broadway stage with her theatrical presence once again. Last Tuesday the Olivier Award winner, Laura Michelle Kelly, rejoined the cast of Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam Theatre.

In 2004 Kelly won the Olivier and was recognized for creating the role in London’s West End premiere of the show. Then, in 2009 Kelly was seen on Broadway portraying Mary once again. If you’re kicking yourself for missing out on your opportunity to see Kelly back on Broadway two years ago, now is your chance to see her magical performance for yourself along with amazing new songs, music, and lyrics from an Olivier Award winning team!

Although Kelly brings a certain entertaining quality to the show, Mary Poppins is a crowd pleaser with or without her. The show recently became the 30th longest-running Broadway show in history. On July 16 at 2 PM Mary Poppins knocked Pippin out of the 30th spot with its 1,945th performance at the New Amsterdam Theatre.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have always had a strange relationship with the term “too far.” With “South Park,” their long running animated TV show on Comedy Central, Parker and Stone have sparked controversy over taboo topics and have often pushed the thin line of “too far” forward. The two have used humor to illuminate topics and issues that need serious attention while remarkably making audiences laugh. And though “South Park” remains one of TVs most popular shows Parker and Stone have taken their style elsewhere.

But now the dynamic duo have taken their talent elsewhere. With “The Book of Mormon” Stone and Parker co-create a dazzling piece of comedy about a pair of Mormon missionaries and their experiences in Uganda. The excellent laughs and dialogue are matched by Robert Lopez’ composition.

The play has won 9 Tony Awards, including one for best musical. Along with awards, “Mormon” has racked up great reviews all over the country!

Whether you are a fan of the always taboo-toppling “South Park” or you just love a great musical with a sense of humor come on out and see “The Book of Mormon” and you surely won’t regret the decision!

It comes as no surprise that tickets for The Book of Mormon have been on Select-A-Ticket’s Top 5 Events list. Less than three months ago New York’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre welcomed a new musical to Broadway, and now audiences cannot get enough.

This year The Book of Mormon lead the Tony Awards with 14 nominations. Not to mention this foul-mouthed comedy took home the most prestigious award of the night, best musical. The show took a grand total of nine awards home, just missing the record number of 12 Tonys set by The Producers.

Brought to you by the dirty masterminds of television’s satirical “South Park,” The Book of Mormon features an original book with hilarious music and lyrics by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
It seems hard to believe that “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” has been around for half a century. Now this year marks the play’s 50th anniversary, which has sparked its first revival on Broadway since 1995! Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe stars in the current run of the play, which is based on Shepherd Mead’s 1952 book with the same name.

The production begins June 18th and shows won’t end until December 24th, leaving audiences the opportunity to see it as many times as they please! And to those of you who doubt Radcliffe’s acting chops on a live stage: You really have no need to worry. In 2008 Radcliffe received very positive reviews for his lead role in “Equus.”

The play follows Finch, a window washer, who finds a book whose cover is graced with the very title of the play. With it he is able to work his way up the corporate ladder of a company called World Wide Wickets. But after a while Finch reaches difficulties that his book can’t help him with and he must use his own knowledge to attain his success and avoid sabotage.

So go to Select-a-Ticket to purchase your How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying tickets today!

Starting late September Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre is putting on “The Mountaintop,” a fictional play about civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Set on April 3, 1968, the play follows Dr. King through his final day. Starring Samuel L. Jackson as King, “The Mountaintop” is set in Memphis, Tennessee at the Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King was assassinated. The play gets its name because on this day after plane delays due to bomb threats, King gave a rousing speech now called the “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop Address.”

“The Mountaintop” confronts Martin Luther King’s past along with that of all African Americans. Samuel L. Jackson, an Academy Award Nominee for his role in “Pulp Fiction,” will play the part of Dr. King. The production hit stages in London over two years ago and won the very prestigious Olivier Award for Best Play.

The production, which hits Broadway on September 22, 2011, mixes humor, exhilaration, and heartbreak while delivering Martin Luther King’s powerful messages of peace, equality, and love. The play’s writer, Katori Hall, has penned numerous plays including “Hoodoo Love,” “Remembrance,” and “Hurt Village.” Her perception of Dr. Martin Luther King will be followed by a nameless woman who delivers room service to the now notorious room 306 and inspires powerful thought.

So come to the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre to see a critically acclaimed play honoring one of America’s iconic characters played by one of its most iconic actors!

Not every movie would necessarily be good when moved to a Broadway stage but it seems that Whoopi Goldberg movies easily make the translation. There was the musical version of the classic 1990 film “Ghost.” Next, Oprah Winfrey produced a stage version of the book/movie “The Color Purple.” However Goldberg never took a part in bringing her famous films to the stage…until now.

Starting this summer “Sister Act,” a musical version of the 1992 comedy that starred Whoopi Goldberg hits Broadway. The play, stuffed with catchy music, follows Delores (Goldberg in the film), an eccentric Reno singer who witnesses her mobster boyfriend (Harvey Keitel in the film) kill a man.

Knowing that she could be next she enters the witness protection program and ends up serving as a nun in a convent where she discovers a choir of sisters who need her help.
“We’re just gonna bring ‘Sister Act’ because, come on, singing nuns and a girl on the run. There’s nothing more fun than that,” says Goldberg, who is a producer of the show.

The Broadway production will start June 2 and will continue through the summer and into the fall. Don’t miss your chance to see this divine musical grace the Broadway stage!

Throughout the past month, tickets for The Book of Mormon have been on Select-A-Ticket’s Top 5 Events list. Less than three months ago New York’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre welcomed a new musical to Broadway, and now audiences cannot get enough.

Brought to you by the dirty masterminds of television’s satirical “South Park,” The Book of Mormon features an original book with hilarious music and lyrics by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Composer and lyricist Robert Lopez of Avenue Q also was behind the genius book of this musical.

The book is just as expected it would be coming from Parker and Stone, as it is filled with wildly offensive jokes, but is still completely candid and hilarious on a range of topics including AIDS and religion.

Directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw, The Book of Mormon surrounds the journey of two Mormon missionaries from Salt Lake City, Utah. Elder Cunningham and Elder Price are eventually sent to a village in Uganda in order to carry out missionary work.

The two main characters have been described as the ultimate odd couple, with Cunningham being chubby, dim-witted underachieving loser, while Price is a clean-cut, white-bread, overachiever. Trouble unfolds while the two are in Uganda, and hilarity ensues!

“The Book of Mormon” is now open, with performances scheduled Tuesday-Sunday at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in New York City.

It looks as though things may be looking up for the injury-proned musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark this summer at New York’s Foxwoods Theatre.

There are high hopes that this long-previewing musical will be celebrating its opening night on Tuesday, June 14 after more than 100 preview performances. (FYI: most Broadway musicals today typically only have between 25 and 40 preview performances.)

Following a short hiatus, the musical is now under new direction. Phillip William McKinley stepped in the directors chair following the departure of Julie Taymor, the show’s original director. Spider-Man has always featured music by Bono and The Edge, but is now enhanced with a revised book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Glen Berger.

In addition to finally officially opening in June after five failed anticipated opening dates, Interscope Records will also be releasing a cast recording of the musical. The original cast recording will be released on the same date as the musical’s opening night, and will feature 14 tracks produced by Grammy Award winner Steve Lillywhite.

With a $65 million budget, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is the most expensive Broadway production in history. When the show finally opens on Tuesday, June 14, it will truly be something spectacular and entertaining to all audiences.

Attention Broadway goers, there is a new revival on the stage! Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia is a new revival of an original 1995 production. Up until now, the show’s revival at the Barrymore theatre has been well received. Audiences are enjoying this romantic Broadway spectacle, which intertwines many different intellectually stimulating ideas.

This richly entertaining play begins at a posh English country estate in the April 1809, before time warping you to the present time. Audiences are introduced to a brilliant 13 year old named Thomasina. She is young, but is enthralled by knowledge, especially math. She creates a complicated theory, which is well beyond her realm of knowledge.

Adults surrounding Thomasina are all preoccupied with their guilty pleasures. Even her tutor, Septimus is promiscuously involved with several characters in the show, including the poet Ezra Chater’s wife, and Lady Groom, the lady of the house.

Then, Arcadia thrusts you 200 years into the future, where you find academics Hannah and Bernard. These two are curious about Thomasina’s theory, and work to find the truth by putting together all of the confusing clues.

Aradia features a talented cast of actors including Margaret Colin, Billy Crudup, Raul Esparza, Glenn Fleshler, Grace Gummer, Edward James Hyland, Byron Jennings, Bel Powley, Tom Riley, Noah Robbins, David Turner and Lia Williams.

The New York Times describes Arcadia as a “dazzling, witty masterpiece of misunderstanding and quest for knowledge, resonating across centuries.” Arcadia performances run weekly Monday-Saturday at the Barrymore Theatre in New York City.

A new musical based on Stephen Elliot and Allan Scott’s Oscar-winning hit film, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert has recently opened on Broadway!

Revived for the stage, Priscilla Queen of the Desert is an outrageous musical that tells the story of three drag queens embarking on a crazy road trip. Bernadette, Tick, and Adam board an old run down bus, which happens to be nicknamed Priscilla. In search of friendship and love the two travel together across the Australian outback in hopes of finding friendship and love, but ultimately find more than they ever expected.

The musical is directed by Simon Phillips, and has a talented cast full of Olivier and Tony Award nominees. Tony Sheldon will play Bernadette, Will Swenson will portray Tick/Mintzi, while Nick Adams plays the characters of Adam/Felicia.

The show features outrageously imaginative costumes, over-the-top drag make-up, complete by crazy dance numbers from the actors wearing these costumes. The music are dance-floor songs with a hint of disco to maintain a lively stage performance.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert will open on Sunday, March 20, 2011 with previews beginning on Monday, February 28, 2011.

We all remember the 2002 blockbuster starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Catch Me If You Can, right? Well get ready, because a very special creative team is bringing one of the most notorious con artists to the Broadway stage in the form of a musical.

Like Steven Spielberg’s 2002 film with the same title, the musical also tells the intriguing story of Frank Abagnale Jr.. Aaron Tveit portrays Frank, who at just 16 years old became among the most successful con men in America. He spent his teenage years scamming many unsuspecting victims along the way to his riche:. This charming and confident boy acted as if he were a doctor, airline pilot, and even a lawyer, which fooled many plenty of smart people.

This amazing musical comedy has experienced rave reviews, and you should go see why! Catch Me If You Can has scheduled performances Tuesday through Sunday at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York City.

Last month, New York’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre welcomed a new musical to Broadway. From the brains behind television’s satirical “South Park,” “The Book of Mormon” premiered to Broadway audiences last week.

The story begins in Salt Lake City, Utah and follows Elder Cunningham and Elder Price as they are sent to Uganda for missionary work. These two are the ultimate odd couple as Cunningham has been described as a chubby, dim-witted underachieving loser, while Price is a clean-cut, white-bread, overachiever.

In poverty and AIDS stricken Africa, Cunningham and Price put their Mormon faith to the test as they work to convert souls with the Book of Mormon. They eventually convince a few Ugandans to convert through the use of lies, but trouble unfolds when the truth of their lies comes out.

The show features an original book with hilarious music and lyrics from Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with composer-lyricist Robert Lopez of “Avenue Q.” This musical may be good and old-fashioned, but there is still some wildly offensive jokes along the way, making this musical completely outspoken and hilarious.

“The Book of Mormon” is now open, with performances scheduled Tuesday-Sunday at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in New York City.

Yet another “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” cast member has sustained an injury during a performance of this Broadway musical. In February, T.V. Carpio told an interviewer that she did feel safe in the show. Despite her insistence of this, it seems as though Carpio was not as safe as she thought.

Carpio, who plays Arachne in this injury-prone Broadway musical, was injured on March 16 while performing an onstage battle with another cast member. No further details on how the injury happened are known as of now, but she will more than likely be out of the show for at least two weeks.

Due to a plethora of technical issues, “Spider-Man” has experienced countless delays causing them to push back the opening date numerous times. With more than 110 preview performances, this musical has become the first musical with over 100. Most musicals on the stages of Broadway today typically only have somewhere between 25 and 40 of these preview performances.

With a $65 million budget, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is the most expensive Broadway production in history. When (or if) the show finally opens, it will truly be something spectacular and entertaining to all audiences.

Earlier this month a new musical was introduced to the press. Broadway’s new musical, Sister Act was brought to the public’s attention by Olivier Award nominee Patina Miller and the musical’s cast.

This fresh musical is based on Touchstone Pictures 1992 film, which starred Whoopi Goldberg. Goldberg, along with Stage Entertainment, is now the producer of the Broadway version of this major motion picture. Sister act will be directed by four-time Tony Award Winner Jerry Zaks, who is most famously known for Guys and Dolls, Smokey Joe’s Café, and more.

Sister Act’s original score features many talented musicians. Alan Menken, most famously known for his work with Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Little Shop of Horrors, wrote original music for the production. Menken has won multiple Grammy, Academy, and Golden Globe Awards as a composer, and is looking to potentially add more to his name with Sister Act. Sister Act will feature lyrics written by Tony Award nominee Glenn Slater, with a book Cheri and Bill Steinkellner.

With all of these famous names from the Broadway industry, there is no doubt that Sister Act will put on a great show for all audiences!

Preview performances for Sister Act will begin on March 24, 2011 at the Broadway Theatre in New York City. The show is set to officially open on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

Academy Award winner Robin Williams will make his Broadway debut in the premiere of Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Williams will be portraying the thoughtful role of the tiger at the Richard Rodgers Theatre with direction from two-time Tony Award nominee Moisés Kaufman.

Williams has only previously been on Broadway during a limited engagement of a comedy show eight years ago. This production marks his first role as an actor on the Broadway stage. Also marking playwright Rajiv Joseph’s Broadway debut, this musical is a first for many involved. As a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, this play is an creative drama about the Iraq War.

Kaufman describes the musical as a”ferocious comedy” that narrates the lives of a “a tiger, two American marines and an Iraqi gardener as they roam the streets of Baghdad in search of friendship, redemption and a toilet seat made of gold.” This musical features certain scenes abnormal sense of humor, but is mainly a dreary dark production.

Previews for Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo begin on March 11, 2011, and you can watch Robin Williams on opening night on Thursday March 31, 2011.

Broadway’s new musical, Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark is perpetually experiencing delays that continue to push back the show’s official opening date. After numerous injured actors, and countless rescheduled opening nights, there are rumors circulating that the opening night of this problem-proned musical may be pushed back to an even later date.

Rumor has it that the producers of the musical are considering a change in the current opening date of Tuesday, March 15. They may be looking to push it back until June, but either way the show is yearning for an official opening night. The show has been in previews since last year, which means Spider-Man is on it’s way to becoming the musical with the most preview shows.

If the opening date is pushed back until June, the performance on March 15 would act as a “celebration of sorts for the work done so far.” Although the early performances of Spider-Man the musical received poor reviews, the musical has come a long way since then. Many of the technical kinks have been worked out, and many aspects are being tweaked in order to improve the story and overall quality of the production.

With a $65 million budget, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is the most expensive Broadway production in history. When the show finally opens, it will truly be something spectacular and entertaining to all audiences.

The Tony Award Winning musical, Memphis, is coming to the big screen. Last week performances were filmed with the intent of releasing it to a movie theater near you beginning this spring.

The production company behind it all is called Broadway Worldwide. From January 18-21 performances were filmed with HD cameras, and the edited result of all performances and tracks will be released to theaters soon.

The 2010 Tony Award Winner for best musical will be the first musical ever to hit movie theaters while still running on the Broadway stage. Starring in this uncommon event will be Chad Kimball and Montego Glover. Both actors received Tony Award nominations for their lead roles.

It is indeed rare for a Broadway production to be filmed and released as a cinematic experience. However, the intent is that the movie will draw extra attention to a national tour of the show which is coming soon. Additionally, the show in New York is only in its second year, so producers are hoping this movie event will spark some interest in the public.

Memphis the Musical is on Broadway now at the Shubert Theatre in New York City.

The new Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark cannot seem to catch a break. First, the show experienced countless problems, which forced them to push its opening date back multiple times. Now that the show has finally opened, Spider-Man continues to be a trouble maker.

The show relies heavily on the use of props and cables in order to perform flying stunts. This has been the root of many of the problems. Previews for the show have received poor reviews due to the technical glitches, and constant delays.

Last week two performances were cancelled while producers attempted to focus on solving all of the safety concerns. The cancellations were provoked by an afternoon performance that accidentally sent a Spider-Man stunt double into a stage pit, and left him seriously injured. New safety measures were put into effect after this unfortunate incident.

Regardless of all the problems that Spider-Man is experiencing, the show must go on. During Sunday night’s blizzard the show still remained to draw a crowd despite the harsh weather. Once the musical irons out all of the technical glitches, the show is sure to be a huge hit.

Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark is scheduled to celebrate opening night at the Foxwoods Theater on January 11, 2011.

Tickets to see Jersey Boys on Broadway is no stranger to Select A Ticket’s Top 5 Events of the Week list. For over five years the Broadway show, Jersey Boys, has been playing to sold out audiences. Audiences and critics agree that Jersey Boys is a sensational one of a kind musical. In 2006, the show won several Tony awards including Best Musical.

Jersey Boys the musical features The Four Season, a 1960′s rock and roll band comprised by the members Frankie Valli, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi, and Bob Gaudio. The musical follows the band’s coming of age which tells the story of their rise, success, and fall. Uncommon for a musical, it is told in a documentary style as each member of the band taking turns narrating the story.

Each individual band member as well as the band collectively, has many life struggles. These complications include gambling debts, Mafia threats, and family disasters that they are forced to deal with throughout the musical.

The band grew up together in the tough neighborhoods of New Jersey where they sang, rehearsed, and they ultimately used their innovative style to their advantage and founded the Doo Wop genre. You’ll definitely enjoy the music from this show, and you may even recognize some of the tunes such as “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and “December 1963 (Oh, What A Night).”

After years of delays, previews for Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark have finally began. This highly anticipated musical is a big budget production that could be Broadway’s next big thing.

The musical version of Marvel Comics superhero, Spider-Man, is directed by Julie Taymor, and the show will feature music from U2′s Bono and The Edge.

Although previews for the show have received poor reviews due to their technical glitches, there is still hope for this new spectacle. The use of props and cables are necessary due to the flying stunts performed in the musical, however these were the cause of the numerous stops during the first show.

The show may have experienced some technical hardships on the first night of previews, but they have made improvements. During the second night of previews Spider-Man was able to work out many of the kinks, and the show only stopped once.

Since this much improvement was made in just one night, many are confident that the technical problems will be worked out by Opening night.

Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark is scheduled to celebrate opening night at the Foxwoods Theater on January 11, 2011.

The new Broadway musical “Elf” is based off of the beloved 2003 Will Ferrell Film about Buddy the Elf. This uplifting film tells the story of Buddy the orphan who accidentally gets taken to the North Pole as a child by crawling into Santa’s bag of gifts.

Although Buddy grows to be the size of a normal human, he is still totally unaware that he is not really an elf. He travels to New York City where he hopes to find his true self identity.

The musical features an amazing cast including Tony Award Winner Beth Leavel as Emily. Leavel is no stranger to the Broadway stage, as Elf will be her ninth musical on Broadway. Her talent was recognized in 2006 when she won a Tony Award for her performance in The Drowsy Chaperone.

Her huge voice, and personality said that she likes “doing the funny buddy roles,” and that she has not “hit that wall yet of getting tired of them.”

Previews for Elf began earlier this month, and the show will open at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City on Sunday, November 14. The production is a limited engagement just for the holiday season through Sunday, January 2, so don’t miss your chance to see Elf on Broadway!

Originally scheduled to open on Broadway December 21, 2010, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark has pushed back opening night once more. This is something that is all too unfamiliar to this action-adventure musical. Producers have made the decision to delay the show’s opening by three weeks, and is now finally set to celebrate it’s opening night on January 11, 2011.

Lead producer Michael Cohn released a statement on Friday saying ”shows like ours, that embrace the challenge of opening on Broadway without an out-of-town tryout, often need to adjust their schedules along the way.” He blamed an “unprecedented level of technical artistry” as the cause of many of the delays in production.

Previews will begin just after a busy Thanksgiving holiday, on Sunday, November 28, which is not exactly the best time to open a new Broadway play. The musical has been in the making for over six years, and unfortunately the show has experienced unavoidable delays. These delays include a loss of their lead character, and now injuries to two of the starring actors, causing this undesirable opening date.

Despite a years worth of delays, this production seems as though it will be worth the wait. This show features a cast of 41 members and an orchestra of 18 members. The designer of the aerial stunts performed in the show was completed by a longtime member of Cirque du Soleil. Spider-Man the musical promises to take live theatre to the next level with this groundbreaking musical.

Despite opening seven years ago to this date, the Broadway production of Wicked is still no stranger to Select A Ticket’s Top 5 Events list. This enchanting musical is preparing to welcome two new cast members to the show on November 2, 2010. Alex Brightman and Timothy Britten Parker, the current cast members playing the roles of Boq and Dr. Dillamond, will perform their final show on Sunday, October 31.

The role of Dr. Dillamond will now be portrayed by Tom Flynn who has appeared on Broadway in plays such as How to Succeed, Tommy, and Juan Darien. He has also assumed roles in a handful traveling shows including Les Misérables.

Etai BenShlomo will also join the cast, as he takes on the role of Boq. Although he has appeared in workshops, and national tours, Wicked will be BenShlomo’s Broadway debut. This talented actor attended the University of Michigan where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Wicked is a spellbinding musical that takes audiences of all ages into the past where they find out what happened before the 1939 movie classic “The Wizard of Oz.” The story follows Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch before Dorothy ever dropped into their lives. The two witches meet as roommates college, and hate each other in the beginning. Eventually the witches take their own separate paths, but not before learning a great deal from each other.

Wicked is still on top, and remains the most popular musical on Broadway. Get your Wicked Tickets from Select A Ticket now!

The Public Theatre opened The Merchant of Venice on Broadway starring Al Pacino earlier last week. Pacino will reprise his admired performance as Shylock at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City for a limited engagement of only 78 performances.

Al Pacino has appeared in many Broadway shows including American Buffalo and Chinese Coffee, and has won Tony Awards for his performances in The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel and Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?. This legendary actor has also won Academy Awards, Emmys, Golden Globes for his appearances in over 35 different films.

The opening of this play follows a sold-out, eight week run of this Shakespearian comedy at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park from June 12 through August 1 of this summer. The success of the Shakespeare in the park encouraged the transfer from the Park to the Broadway stage. Andrew D. Hamingson, executive director of The Public Theatre, said that response from the audience, critics, “and the desire of Al Pacino and the cast to bring it to a larger audience” sparked the transfer.

Nearly 50 years ago, legendary NFL coach and general manager, Vince Lombardi was at the peak of his career. He now has many accomplishments to his name, including leading the Packers to victory in the first two Super Bowls.

His unique way of leading the team through bullying, while showing love and being protective, along with his ability to create a team unlike any other sparked a general interest in Lombardi’s life.

The public was interested in gaining more knowledge on his skills and methods of management and coaching, to his inspirational and motivational teachings, all the way through to his death at the age of 57 from cancer. This interest inspired a biography based on Vince Lombardi’s life by Pulitzer Prize-winning author, David Maraniss, entitled When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vincent Lombardi.

This biography in turn inspired a broadway play on one of the NFL’s most legendary coaches. Lombardi starring Dan Lauria opened on Broadway earlier this weak at New York’s Circle in the Square Theatre. Sponsored by the NFL, this play highlights and showcases one of the league’s most iconic heroes for all kinds of audiences.

Over the summer Jersey Boys Tickets were no stranger to our Top 5 Events list, and now the Grammy, Olivier, and Tony Award-winning Best Musical will celebrate it’s 5th anniversary on Broadway next month. On Friday, November 5 through Monday, November 8 Jersey Boys will host different events in honor of this exciting milestone, beginning with the Empire State Building Lighting.

Since the Empire State Building is the “World’s Most Famous Office Building, it celebrates numerous causes and cultures with symbolic lighting relating to the cause, and Jersey Boys is no exception. On Friday November 5 and Saturday, November 6 the Empire State building will shine in yellow, red, and white in order to celebrate the musical’s 5th anniversary.

On Saturday, November 6 the anniversary performance will take place at the Virginia/August Wilson Theatre in New York City. The August Wilson Theatre opened more than 85 years ago, and Jersey Boys will become the longest running show in the theatre’s history.

Another way the city will celebrate the anniversary is by renaming 52nd Street. On Sunday, November 7th at 1 pm, 52nd Street between 8th Avenue and Broadway will be renamed “Jersey Boys Walk.” Not only will the musical’s current cast and creative team participate in this exciting event, but Franki Valli and Bob Gaudio of the original Four Seasons will participate as well.

On Wednesday, September 29 the audience of American Idiot got an exciting surprise. Green Day front man, Billie Joe Armstrong, played the role of St. Jimmy in this big-budget musical based on his 2005 album. The audience was not sure if he would be appearing on stage that night as he was not listed in the playbook, and it was not announced that he would be filling in for the show until the house lights were dimmed.

Armstrong’s character did not come on stage until the second part of the musical, which gave the audience time to get hyped up for his arrival. Filling in for actor Tony Vincent, Armstrong jumped into the role as if he was on Broadway all his life.

He played the role of Jimmy, an evil apparition whose goal is to corrupt Johnny, the protagonist of the play. As he entered the stage he belted out Jimmy’s title track, “St. Jimmy” with spiked hair and a black jacket and the audience went wild. The applause went on for so long at the end of the song that the musical was forced to be paused for an extra minute.

Armstrong took a bow with the rest of the cast when the show ended, and the curtain fell. The curtain rose again, as he played “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” on his guitar. Armstrong and the rest of the cast took one final bow beofre blowing kisses and shaking hands as he stepped off stage.

Yesterday we saw that tickets to see The Addams Family on Broadway were the highest selling tickets on our Top 5 Events list. It’s no surprise that tickets to this weirdly wonderful show are a hot item, especially because each of the iconic members of the family are played by an amazing cast member. The producers of the show are hoping that losing such popular stars will not affect the success of the musical.

As advertising for this new musical began, the producers focused more on the famous branding of the Addams family. They paid close attention to highlighting the characters, such as Morticia and Gomez, who we learned to love from pages of The New Yorker, rather than the star actors portraying those parts. The producers were hoping to make the transition easier for new actors to take over the lead roles in March when the current stars are expected to leave.

The show’s producers are already looking for new stars to take over for the leading couple. Unfortunately the show has not found their new lead couple yet, as John Leguizamo and Minnie Driver have both turned down the opportunity to portray Gomez and Morticia.

Despite the search for a new leads, two time Tony Award winners Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth currently star as the wonderfully weird couple at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York City.

The new musical on Broadway, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, may have experienced several years of delays, but the production will preview in November before opening in December.

This action adventure musical features music and lyrics by U2′s Bono and The Edge, with a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger. Reeve Carney stars as Peter Parker along with his alter ego Spider-Man. This Broadway production will also feature Patrick Page as the Green Goblin, and Tony Award nominee Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane.

The show’s leading man is also the front-man of a rock band. His band, Carney played two shows back-to-back recently at a Lower East Side Bar in Manhattan. Fans were thrilled and full of anticipation as he warmed up for his Broadway debut at Pianos Bar.

Earlier this year a new musical opened on Broadway. Just five months after opening, Broadway’s Million Dollar Quartet is attracting visitors who are very high-profile. On September 10 at the Nederlander Theatre the show was host to former President of the United States, Bill Clinton and family.

This Broadway musical is based on a recording session which brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and Carl Perkins together. December 4, 1956 was the date that Sam Phillips brought this incredible foursome together at the Sun Records studio in Memphis, Tennessee. This impromptu recording session and the uniting of these four legends made this recording session one of the greatest rock jams of all time.

The Clinton family witnessed a very special show, as it was the same night the musical brought in rock legend Jerry lee Lewis to join the cast for one performance only. Jerry Lee Lewis is the only original member of the real Million Dollar Quartet who is still alive today, and his performance on Friday was certainly a special one.

The Million Dollar Quartet features some of the greatest country, rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, and R&B songs from each of these legendary performers. These songs include “I Walk the Line,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Whole Lotta’ Shakin’ Goin’ On,” and more. The Million Dollar Quartet on Broadway captures the moment these 4 musical genius’ came together in their prime for music.

Elf, a new Broadway show based on the 2003 New Line Cinema major motion picture will be coming to Broadway for the holiday season.

This beloved film tells the story of an orphan named Buddy who accidentally gets taken to the North Pole as a child by crawling into Santa’s bag of gifts. Although Buddy grows to be the size of a normal human, he is still totally unaware that he is not really an elf.

However, when Buddy is unable to meet the toy making quota that all of the other elves are able to make, he is finally told the truth about being a human. After this revelation Buddy sets forth on a journey to find his real birth father that takes him to magical New York City where he is forced to remind the inhabitants of New York what Christmas spirit really is.

Tony Award nominee Casey Nicholaw will be directing and choreographing the Broadway version of this hilarious tale, and it will feature a book by Tony Award Winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, with songs by Tony Award Nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin.

Elf will begin previews on Tuesday, Novermber 2, and the show will open at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City on Sunday, November 14. The production is a limited engagement just for the holiday season, so don’t miss your chance to see Elf on Broadway!

For a limited time only William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice will hit the Broadway stage, along with some major star power. Al Pacino will be starring in director Daniel Sullivan’s production after the show completes its run at Shakespeare in the Park.

The announcement that made the public aware about the transfer from Central Park to the Broadway stage was made last month by the Public Theater. The executive director of the theater, Andrew D. Hamingson, said that response from the audience, critics, “and the desire of Al Pacino and the cast to bring it to a larger audience” encouraged the transfer.

The Merchant’s Broadway run will be produced by The Public with Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel. Richards and Frankel often collaborate with the Public, and The Merchant of Venice will prove to be no different.

The Merchant of Venice will feature Al Pacino playing the role of Shylock. The Broadway run is scheduled to being on Tuesday, October 19th, and will run through January 9th at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City. This limited engagement will only have 78 performances due to prior commitments made by Pacino.

It has been one week since Jordin Sparks made her Broadway debut in the Grammy and Tony Award winning Best Musical In the Heights, and she couldn’t be more excited. “”It has always been one of my dreams, and it’s finally happening!” said Sparks.

The 20 year old was the youngest contestant to ever win “American Idol” when she was just 16 years old. Now four years later, Sparks can be seen on Broadway playing Nina Rosario in In the Heights. Her strong and beautiful voice blew the judges of American Idol away, and now she’s bringing that talent to the Broadway stage.

In The Heights is a Latin inspired musical set in Washington Heights, New York. The show manages to stay light even when telling the story of the problems that the characters come across. This musical is very energetic and has been compared to an uptown version of Rent.

Jordin Sparks’ engagement as Nina Rosario on Broadway will run through Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. You don’t want to miss your chance to see this pop star take on Broadway!

Currently starring Tony Award Winners James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave, Driving Miss Daisy has added another member to the very talented cast. Boyd Gaines is a new addition to the cast who will be playing the role of Miss Daisy’s son.

Alfred Uhry’s Driving Miss Daisy follows Daisy Werthan, a 72-year-old Jewish widow living in Atlanta. Once Miss Daisy is considered too old to drive, her son hires her a chauffeur. The chauffeur is Hoke Colburn, an African American man, and that creates a bit of trouble for Miss Daisy in the beginning. However, the mismatch turns out to be for the best, as the two form a life-changing bond between each other.

Gaines is not new to the Broadway stage by any means. His other credits include Gypsy, Cabaret, Twelve Angry Men, Contact, and many more. He has also been in multiple Off-Broadway plays including The Extra Man, Major Barbara, and Center Stage. Gaines can be seen in films and on television in Funny Games, Heartbreak Ridge, “Fraiser,” and “Law and Order.”

The Broadway production of Driving Miss Daisy is set to open on Monday, October 25, 2010, with previews beginning on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the John Golden Theatre in New York City. The show will run through Saturday, January 29, 2011 for a 16-week limited engagement.
