Kim Kardashian Rumored to be Dating NJ Nets’ Kris Humphries

Friday, December 17th, 2010

There have been rumors involving a hot new relationship for New Jersey Nets player Kris Humphries. Over the weekend, Humphries was seen with rumored girlfriend Kim Kardashian in New York.

Kim was in New York City to welcome fans at Madison Square Garden for the 2100 Jingle Ball kick off starring Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, B.o.B, Paramore, and other musical artists.

On Saturday night Kim and Kris were spotted at the Provocateur lounge, where they spent the evening (and into the early morning) partying until 2AM. The couple was then seen leaving together where they headed back to Smyth Hotel. Kim has been staying there with her sister Kourtney Kardashian while filming their brand new reality show.

The day before the Jingle Ball concert, Kim was seen court-side at New Jersey’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Humphries played alongside Kim’s brother-in-law Lamar Odum, who is married to her sister Khloe Kardashian.

Humphries, the 25-year old power forward, will have to keep his head in the game despite his new boo. The New Jersey Nets will play their next game on Friday, December 17 against the Toronto Raptors.

Devin Harris Knee Injury Worrying NJ Nets

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

This week, tickets for the New Jersey Nets were the hottest selling tickets on our Top 5 Events list.

On Tuesday night, star point guard for the Nets Devin Harris went crashing down to the ground halfway through the third quarter. He suffered a knee injury, and in turn the Nets sufffered a loss to the New York Knicks.

After the game Harris was experiencing swelling to his left knee, and was sent for an MRI on Wednesday. The Nets are currently waiting to receive results of theMRI to see just how bad the damage actually is.

Harris’ extensive injury record left him out of 18 games last season, which had a huge impact on New Jersey’s season. As you can tell from the first two and a half quarters of Tuesday’s game against the Knicks, Harris is of great importace to the Nets and their offense.

With lots of help from Harris, the Nets are currently 6-12. Harris scored over 20 points in five of those six victories.

The New Jersey Nets will host their next game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, December 1, 2010.

New Jersey Nets Open Season 2-1

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

It’s the beginning of the NBA season, and the 2-1 Nets are already second in the Atlantic Division.

The first two games of the season for the Nets consisted of a late-game comeback from point guard Devin Harris. In the final few minutes of the fourth quarter during the Nets 106-100 win over the Sacramento Kings, Harris generated a late charge for the Nets and scored 21 points.

Before their furious comeback, the Nets made careless turnovers and poor decisions digging themselves an eight-point hole in the second quarter. Fortunately, Harris and the rest of the team were inspired to push forward and score 11 straight. Up until that point the Nets opened their season undefeated 2-0.

Despite the Nets’ undefeated start to the season, Halloween was not so good to them. Earlier tonight the Miami Heat beat the Nets 101-78. The Nets were led by Brook Lopez who made 5 rebounds and had 20 points. Rookie David Favors added 13 points to the Nets’ score. The rookie also had an impressive 13 rebounds.

Last year the Nets opened their season 0-18. All things considered, the Nets are off to a great start for the 2010-2011 NBA season. The New Jersey Nets will play their next game at the Prudential Center on Wednesday, November 3 against the Charlotte Bobcats.

NJ Nets Rumored to be Front Runners for Carmelo Anthony

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Rumor has it that the Denver Nuggets may be interested in trading forward Carmelo Anthony, and the New Jersey Nets are jumping at the chance to have him on their team.

The Nuggets still have not made a definite decision on whether or not they want to trade Anthony, but the resistance they’ve previously shown on the matter may be dwindling. A source also told ESPN.com that officials from the Nuggets made other teams aware that they will be taking pitches. It’s hard to say if the nuggets will make a trade as they have not withdrawn their standing offer to extend Anthony’s contract.

Despite the uncertainty, the New Jersey Nets seem to be putting the most effort into their pitch for Anthony. Multiple sources from the league told ESPN.com that the Nets seems to be the the candidate most likely to secure the 26-year old forward.

The Nets are not the only team interested in Anthony. The Knicks, Clippers, Bulls, Warriers, and Rockets have all expressed an interest in pursuing Anthony, but they may have a hard time beating what the Nets are willing to offer. Sources are saying that New Jersey’s offer includes the expiring contracts of Kris Humphries and Troy Murphy, the number three pick in the 2010 draft Derrick Favors, and at least one future first-round pick.

The NBA Preseason is almost here! The New Jersey Nets will begin their preseason on Sunday, October 3 at the Prudential Center against Maccabi Haifa.

New Jersey Nets to Play in London

Monday, August 9th, 2010

It has been made apparent that the NBA has been interested in expanding professional basketball to all over the world before the 2012 Olympics in London. Earlier today the NBA announced plans to hold their first competitive matches in England. The league announced that on March 4 and 5 the New Jersey Nets will be playing the Toronto Raptors at the O2 Arena in London.

The NBA commissioner, David Stern, made the announcement this morning and said, “To me this is the next step in the progression leading up to the London Olympics, which for us presents an extraordinary opportunity for the continued growth of basketball in Europe and in the UK.”

Stern also mentioned that the Nets and the Raptors were both perfect teams to play some of their regular season games in London because they both have strong international interest. Not only does the team have international interest, but the new owner of the Nets, Mikhail Prokhorov, has been interested in raising the global image of his team.

The New Jersey Nets will play the Toronto Raptors in London, England on March 4 and 5, 2010.

NJ Nets Make Major Free Agent Pitches

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

The New Jersey Nets are looking to gain a couple major free agents this week. This group of free agents is the largest in the history of the NBA. Not only that, but many of the free agents are significant players that any team would be lucky to have.

The free agent period began at midnight on Thursday, and the Nets did not waste any time. The New Jersey Nets have been very ambitious with their free agent pitches, and spent a total of nearly six hours with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh in hopes of signing them to the team.

Although new coach Avery Johnson believes their pitches were on target and that the meetings went well, it’s uncertain whether or not they went well enough for any of them to sign. As if it weren’t hard enough for the Nets to land a big star, they have to compete with offers from other teams. The Bulls, Cavaliers, Heat, and even the Knicks have all made offers to Wade, Bosh, and James.

Now the optimistic Nets only have one thing left to do, and that is wait. According to reports, LeBron James should be making his decision before Monday.

New Jersey Nets May Move to Newark

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

The New Jersey Nets have been playing at the Meadowlands for 29 years since it opened in 1981. Now that the Meadowlands will be undergoing a $1.6 billion renovation, the Nets will need a new place to call home.

The New Jersey Nets are scheduled to move to Brooklyn in 2012, but they may be moving to the Prudential Center in Newark for their next two seasons. In October the New Jersey Nets played two games in Newark that brought in an average of 14,255 fans. At the Meadowlands the Nets are currently averaging 13,302 fans out of 22 home games.

Because of the Nets’ situation, the New Jersey Devils have reached a preliminary agreement with the team which allows the basketball franchise to play their home games, and be co-tenants with the Devils, at the Prudential Center. The agreement was made last week,  is expected to be signed this week, and is hoped to be approved by Governor Chris Christie shortly after.

The Nets would have to break their lease at the Meadowlands, which would normally result in a reported $7.5 million penalty. However, under this agreement the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority would waive the penalty against the Nets.

The New Jersey Nets will play their next game in Boston against the Celtics on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 7:30 ET.

New Jersey Nets Lose to the Boston Celtics

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

The New Jersey Nets suffered a horrible loss to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night in their own gym. The Nets now have an embarrassing 3-35 record for the 2009-2010 season.

The Boston Celtics were short handed and played without 2 of their best players because Kevin Garnett and Rasheed Wallace were both injured. However, after just six minutes into the game the celtics had a double digit lead. The Nets were 16 points behind the Celtics after the first quarter.

The Celtics took an easy 30-point lead to make the score 57-27 in the second quarter. As the Nets went into the halftime break trailing by 36, something unusual happened in the locker room. Devin Harris took halftime as an opportunity to announce his frustrations with the team.

In the second half of Wednesday’s game, the New Jersey Nets outscored the Boston Celtics by 12, and it seemed as though Harris got his teammates’ attention. But that wasn’t the case. The New Jersey Nets were unable to make a comeback and lost 111-87 to the Celtics.

The New Jersey Nets will play their next game on January 15 against the Indiana Pacers.

New Jersey Nets Preview

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

The New Jersey Nets will start their season on Wednesday, October 28 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Their home opener is Friday, October 30 against the Orlando Magic.

For the 2008-2009 season, the Nets were 34-48 and 3rd in the Atlantic division, and they are prepared to do better than that in 2010. They have a great young talent, solid management, and a good head coach. The Nets have successfully found two quality players to make a strong foundation for their team. The Nets have Brook Lopez, a player on the all-rookie team, as center, and Devin Harris, an all-star, as point guard.

As a rookie, Lopez exhibited great footwork, instincts, and toughness. He averaged almost 2 blocks, 8 rebounds, and 13 points. The only thing he needs is to gain more experience. Harris is the most experienced player in the projected starting line up. He is also the only 20-point scorer returning to the team. Last season he averaged 21.3 points last season, his career high. His only problem is that he has been injury prone, but when he is healthy he is a key player.

The team made a lot of changes over the summer. The Nets have made some new additions including 3 new guards, Rafer Alston, Courtney Lee, Terrence Williams, and forward Tony Battie. Some key subtractions from the team are Maurice Ager and Vince Carter. The team looks strong with its returning players Devin Harris, Josh Boone, Brook Lopez, Eduardo Najera, Bobby Simmons, Sean Williams, Keyon Dooling, Christ Douglas-Roberts, Trenton Hassel, Jarvis Hayes, and Yi Jianlian.

Russia’s Richest Man Reportedly Buying New Jersey Nets

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

The Associated Press is reporting that Russia’s richest man has reached a deal to purchase a controlling stake in the New Jersey Nets. Mikhail Prokhorov’s Onexim Group announced the deal on Wednesday with Forest City Ratner Companies and Nets Sports & Entertainment.

The deal gives him 80% involvement in the team and 45% involvement in the arena that Bruce C. Ratner is building for the team in Brooklyn. Ratner will retain controlling interest in the arena upon its completion.

“This partnership will ensue the successful completion of a world-class entertainment venue in Brooklyn, the relocation of the NBA Nets basketball team and the economic and housing benefits of the Atlantic Yards Project.” said a joint statement from Forest City Ratner Cos, Nets Sports & Entertainment, and Prokhorov’s Onexim Group.

After the NBA reviews the proposal, the deal must be approved by 75% of its board of governors. Ratner and Prokhorov are hoping to have the sale completed by the first quarter of 2010.

Prokhorov already owns a stake in Russia’s top team and is worth an estimated $9.5 billion, but with this deal Prokhorov becomes the first NBA owner who is not North American.
