Kansas City to Host 2012 All Star Game
Saturday, June 26th, 2010Last Wednesday it was announced that the Kansas City Royals will host the 2012 All-Star game after many years of waiting. Bud Selig, the commissioner of Major League Baseball announced that Kauffman Stadium will be home to the All Star game that be held on Tuesday July 10, 2012.
In 2006 Kansas City was promised to host an All Star game between 2010-2014, but only if a tax vote was passed in order to pay for stadium renovations. Taxpayers agreed to the $275 million dollar improvements which were completed last year. Selig stuck to his promise, and the Kauffman Stadium is now the host of the 83rd Midsummer Classic.
The 2012 All Star Game will be the Royals’ second, and the city’s third time as hosts. Selig took this into consideration, and as he made the news official through an announcement he said, ”This a special day for the Kansas City Royals organization, the local community and the great baseball fans of Kansas City.”
The 2012 All Star Game isn’t for another two years, but you can still see your favorite MLB players compete against each other in the 2010 MLB All Star game to be held on Tuesday, July 13 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.
