Million Dollar Quartet Attracting High Profile Audience
Monday, September 13th, 2010Earlier this year a new musical opened on Broadway. Just five months after opening, Broadway’s Million Dollar Quartet is attracting visitors who are very high-profile. On September 10 at the Nederlander Theatre the show was host to former President of the United States, Bill Clinton and family.
This Broadway musical is based on a recording session which brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and Carl Perkins together. December 4, 1956 was the date that Sam Phillips brought this incredible foursome together at the Sun Records studio in Memphis, Tennessee. This impromptu recording session and the uniting of these four legends made this recording session one of the greatest rock jams of all time.
The Clinton family witnessed a very special show, as it was the same night the musical brought in rock legend Jerry lee Lewis to join the cast for one performance only. Jerry Lee Lewis is the only original member of the real Million Dollar Quartet who is still alive today, and his performance on Friday was certainly a special one.
The Million Dollar Quartet features some of the greatest country, rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, and R&B songs from each of these legendary performers. These songs include “I Walk the Line,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Whole Lotta’ Shakin’ Goin’ On,” and more. The Million Dollar Quartet on Broadway captures the moment these 4 musical genius’ came together in their prime for music.
