Marques Douglas to Miami Dolphins

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Marques Douglas, a veteran of the NFL has been signed to the Miami Dolphins. Douglas has 120 games played under his belt, and he has started in 91 of them. During those games he made 123 solo tackles and 316 total. Additionally, he has acquired 20.5 sacks, making him a crucial defensive end for any team he has played on.

Before joining the NFL, Douglas played college football at Howard University. Douglas was a three-time All-MEAC selection, and with 29.5 sacks he finished second of all time in the conference. Douglas was also awarded the Buffalo Soldier Award while in college. This award is given to a player who has the skills on the field, as well as in the classroom.

Douglas has been in the NFL for 10 seasons, originally signing with the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent that was not drafted in 1999. Douglas has also played for the New Orleans Saints, San Fransico 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the New York Jets. Now the Miami Dolphins will turn to Douglas for important tackles and sacks.

The Miami Dolphins will play their first preseason game with their new defensive end at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Sunday, September 12 the Miami Dolphins are scheduled to play their season opening game against the Buffalo Bills. This is the second season in a row that their season will begin away from their home at the Sun Life Stadium.

The Dolphins will not go home until Week Three because they are traveling to Minnesota for Week Two to play the Vikings on Sunday, September 19. The Dolphins have not opened with two games on the road since 1988.

For Week Three the Dolphins will return home where they will play their long time AFC rivals, the New York Jets. On Sunday, September 16 the New York Jets will travel to Miami for a Sunday night battle at the Sun Life Stadium.

Parcells Can Leave and Take His Money with Him

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

The Miami Dolphins may have made a mistake when they negotiated Bill Parcels contract two years ago. A clause in Tuna’s contract allows him to walk at any point AND keep his full pay. Additionally, if he signed with another organization, the Dolphins would not be entitled to any compensation.

The contractual clause stated that if Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga were to ever sell the team, that Parcels would essentially be an unrestricted free agent, free to walk at any moment. Parcels has said publicly that he is committed to the Dolphins through 2009, but has not made a statement specifically acknowledging his contractual agreement.

I would imagine that Dolphins fans across the country have to be a bit worried, as Parcels has often been noted as being rather short tempered and whimsical. As long as the new ownership treats him well, I would imagine that Dolphins ticket holders would not have too much to worry about, as we know that Tuna loves the game.

AFC Round One Results

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

In a great weekend for Professional Football, the AFC wildcard playoffs provided great entertainment, intrigue and excitement for every fan who watched.

The marquee matchup was perhaps between AFC South runners-up, Indianapolis and the winners of the AFC West, San Diego. San Diego was not given much of a chance in the game, due in part to their 8-8 record and despite their home field advantage, they weren’t expected to be able to handle the powerful Colts, led by Peyton Manning.

Alas, the Chargers had more to say about it than the talking heads as San Diego defeated the Colts in overtime, 23-17.

In the other AFC matchup, the AFC North runners-up, Baltimore took out revenge on the Miami Dolphins by clubbing them 27-9. The Ravens were the only team who were defeated by Miami in last year’s abysmal 1-16 season. Sorry folks, you’ll have to wait until next year to buy your Miami Dolphins tickets.

With the wins by San Diego and Baltimore, it sets up a couple of week two matchups in Tennessee and Pittsburgh, where the Titans will host the Ravens, while the Steelers will try to hold serve against San Diego.

Dolphins Defense Punishes ’9ers

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

What a great story the Miami Dolphins team has been this year. After winning their only game of the season during week 15 of the 2007 season, the Dolphins notched their ninth victory of the year in the same week in ’08.

The Dolphins are looking for the playoffs, as they continue to ride a great defense and a consistent offense lead by Chad Pennington.

It was the defense who shined this Sunday in Miami against the 49ers, as they held San Francisco to only three field goals while riding two first half touchdowns of their own to a 14-9 victory. Offensively for the Dolphins, Chad Pennington had two TD tosses while completing 12-19 passing for 158 yards and no interceptions.

My prediction is that the Dolphins will complete their Cinderella story by making the playoffs. Grab some Dolphins tickets, enjoy them play in the warm weather of Miami.

Miami Continues Winning Ways, AFC East Knotted Up

Friday, December 5th, 2008

“What a difference a year makes.” How many fans, pundits and even players and coaches have said that this year about the Miami Dolphins who have turned their season around in dramatic fashion after an abysmal 1-15 season only a year ago.

Much of the credit is going to quarterback Chad Pennington, who signed with the Dolphins after being replaced in New York by Brett Favre. However, the Dolphins are the epitome of a team this year as everyone from their upper management (including new GM Bill Parcels) to their head coach, Tony Sporano, to their players and even fans.

The attitude in Miami is so much different than it was last year at this time when they had yet to win the first and only game of the year. Now they find themselves in a three-way tie with the Jets and Patriots for the AFC East lead. If you want to see some great football and some newly energized fans, find some Miami Dolphins tickets and watch the ‘Phins continue their rebound.

Dolphins Comeback, Hold On Against St. Louis

Monday, December 1st, 2008

It wasn’t easy for the Miami Dolphins, but they were able to hold off the St. Louis Rams in the fourth quarter to secure their seventh victory of the season on Sunday. After falling behind 9-0 early in the second quarter, the Dolphins put 10 points on the board before the half to take a 10-9 halftime lead. They put another FG on the board in the third before exchanging fourth quarter field goals that gave them a 16-12 lead, which they would not relinquish.

The win puts the Dolphins at 7-5 on the year and tied for second place with New England one game out of first place behind the New York Jets in the AFC East. With two of their remaining three games against the paltry offenses of Kansas City and San Francisco, the Dolphins have a real shot at the playoffs only one year removed from their abysmal 2007 season.

If you’re in the Miami area, or in a city they are visiting in the next few weeks, grab some Miami Dolphins tickets see them continue their attempt at a great comeback season.

Dolphins Still in the Thick of the AFC East

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

The AFC East is THE division to watch right now in the NFL as all four teams in the division are separated by just one game with New England and the New York Jets lead the division at 6-3, while the Buffalo bills and the shocking Miami Dolphins trail by only one game, and are in the thick of the wild card race as well.

Coming off of an absolutely dreadful season last year, the Miami Dolphins are looking to complete their fantastic early season run with a playoff berth. Tony Sparano has done a fantastic job leading the Dolphins so far, and Chad Pennington, Ronnie Brown, and even Ricky Williams have played huge roles in helping the offense produce far beyond their 2007 numbers.

Not only can you avoid the winter weather in Miami this year, but you can also grab some Miami Dolphins tickets and help root the team on as they make a very legitimate run at the playoffs in one of the great turn around seasons in NFL history.

Miami Wants to Continue to Improve against Baltimore

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Last year, many sports pundits, fans and analysts thought that Miami had a realistic shot at going 0-17 and being in the record books as the worst team in NFL history. They ended up at 1-16 and knew that this year was going to be critical for them if they were to get back on track. They hired longtime head coach Bill Parcels as GM, whose first major act was to get rid of the team’s best player, Jason Taylor – for really no good reason.

Many people thought that would be the death knell for this year’s variety of Dolphins – and feelings were echoed after the team went 0-2 to begin the year. But surprisingly, the team is now 2-3 after beating New England and San Diego – last year’s AFC Championship contenders.

After beginning the year with a two-back tandem of Ronnie Brown and former Heisman winner Ricky Williams, they have now begun to use Brown much more exclusively as he has emerged as the backbone of the “wildcat” offensive scheme that has put them back in contention in 2008.

If you live in Miami or in any of their host cities, grab some Miami Dolphins tickets and watch this team as they continue to improve on last year’s abysmal season.
