Greenbay Packers Experience “Lombardi” on Broadway

On Sunday, the Green Bay Packers brought home the Super Bowl Trophy after defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25. Following the Packers’ victory, the producers of the Broadway play “Lombardi” invited the members of the team and their wives to attend a show.

In honor of their legendary former coach, fullback John Kuhn, cornerback Charles Woodson, along withpresident and CEO Mark Murphy, are planning to travel to New York City this Tuesday in order to see a performance of the play.

This new American play is based on the biography written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author, David Maraniss, called When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vincent Lombardi.

Vince Lombardi has many accomplishments under his belt, including leading the Packers to victory in the first two Super Bowls. His unique way of leading the Packers, along with his ability to create a team unlike any other made him one of the most celebrated coaches in Packers’ history.

Lombardi’s life and career as the head coach of the Packers is now being commemorated in the lobby of Circle in The Square Theatre. The lobby is complete with Hall of Fame memorabilia, along with current championship T-shirts to celebrate the Packers’ Super Bowl win.

Lombardi Debuts on Broadway

Nearly 50 years ago, legendary NFL coach and general manager, Vince Lombardi was at the peak of his career. He now has many accomplishments to his name, including leading the Packers to victory in the first two Super Bowls.

His unique way of leading the team through bullying, while showing love and being protective, along with his ability to create a team unlike any other sparked a general interest in Lombardi’s life.

The public was interested in gaining more knowledge on his skills and methods of management and coaching, to his inspirational and motivational teachings, all the way through to his death at the age of 57 from cancer. This interest inspired a biography based on Vince Lombardi’s life by  Pulitzer Prize-winning author, David Maraniss, entitled When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vincent Lombardi.

This biography in turn inspired a broadway play on one of the NFL’s most legendary coaches. Lombardi starring Dan Lauria opened on Broadway earlier this weak at New York’s Circle in the Square Theatre. Sponsored by the NFL, this play highlights and showcases one of the league’s most iconic heroes for all kinds of audiences.

Vince Lombardi Life Story to Hit Broadway

A new Broadway play will be hitting the Circle in the Square Theatre in New York City. Lombardi will be coming to life on stage in the fall of 2010. This new American play is based on the biography written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author, David Maraniss, called When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vincent Lombardi.

The play surrounds the life of Vince Lombardi, one of the most successful NFL football coaches of all time, and a man with a puzzling personality. This Hall of Fame coach was not only known for his coaching abilities, but he was also known to be one of the most inspirational people who had many motivational quotes and teachings to offer.

Lombardi is a play by Eric Simonson who is an Academy Award winner, and a member of Steppenwolf Theater Company. Thomas Kail is the Tony Award nominee directing Lombardi, while Dan Lauria of The Wonder Years will be leading the cast.
