Bobby Bowden to Retire After Gator Bowl

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Florida State’s match-up against West Virginia in the Gator Bowl will take place on New Years Day. This game will also mark when Bobby Bowden coaches his final game. The 80-year old coach announced on Tuesday that he would retire after this bowl game.

In 1976 Bowden left the Mountaineer’s to coach the Seminoles. Florida State has been in the past 28 bowls games which began when they defeated the Mountaineers 32-12 in 1982 at the Gator Bowl. Now, Florida state is 5-0-1 in the Gator Bowl, which includes two victories over West Virginia.

This Gator Bowl will definitely be among the most historic games for many reasons. This Gator Bowl will end the 44-year run by Bobby Bowden, who is second place in college football history for all-time wins with 388 victories to his name. Bowden has won at least 10 games and ranked in the top of of the AP poll for 14 seasons in a row. In addition, he has won 2 national titles with Seminoles. Florida State hasn’t had a losing season since Bowden’s first year 32 years ago, but a loss to West Virginia would ruin that run.

Don’t miss your chance to see this legendary man coach his final game.
