Currently starring Tony Award Winners James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave, Driving Miss Daisy has added another member to the very talented cast. Boyd Gaines is a new addition to the cast who will be playing the role of Miss Daisy’s son.
Alfred Uhry’s Driving Miss Daisy follows Daisy Werthan, a 72-year-old Jewish widow living in Atlanta. Once Miss Daisy is considered too old to drive, her son hires her a chauffeur. The chauffeur is Hoke Colburn, an African American man, and that creates a bit of trouble for Miss Daisy in the beginning. However, the mismatch turns out to be for the best, as the two form a life-changing bond between each other.
Gaines is not new to the Broadway stage by any means. His other credits include Gypsy, Cabaret, Twelve Angry Men, Contact, and many more. He has also been in multiple Off-Broadway plays including The Extra Man, Major Barbara, and Center Stage. Gaines can be seen in films and on television in Funny Games, Heartbreak Ridge, “Fraiser,” and “Law and Order.”
The Broadway production of Driving Miss Daisy is set to open on Monday, October 25, 2010, with previews beginning on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the John Golden Theatre in New York City. The show will run through Saturday, January 29, 2011 for a 16-week limited engagement.
