Michael Waltrip Aims for 25th Consecutive Daytona 500
Sunday, January 16th, 2011Michael Waltrip is hoping to compete in yet another Daytona 500. If the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team owner qualifies, then this year’s race would make it his 25th straight appearance in the great race.
In an interview on Thursday, Waltrip said, “This will be my 25th Daytona 500 in a row. I think two people have started that many. Richard Petty and Dave Marcis come to mind. Our plan is to race the Budweiser Shootout and 500. I’m looking forward to it.” Waltrip is aready a two-time Daytona 500 champion, and is certainly looking to make that three.
February is a big month for Waltrip, as he also has a book coming out next month. In his book, “In the Blink of an Eye: Dale, Daytona, and the Day that Changed Everything,” Waltrip’s emotions run loose as he speaks of the day his friend, Dale Earnhardt Sr. died in a car crash on the last lap.
