Townsend’s Pick Six Spells Doom for Dallas

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

In my last post I talked about how the New York Jets and New York Giants both had quarterbacks from the same state. Well this weekend, Pittsburgh’s own Mississippi son made the difference in their victory against Dallas.

Desshae Townsend’s 25 yard return of a Tony Romo gift with less than two minutes left to seal the Steelers victory over the comeback Cowboys. Townsend was formerly a standout defensive back at Alabama, after his high school career in Mississippi. Ironically, Townsend’s high school (South Panola – Batesville, Mississippi) had its nation’s longest winning streak snapped at 89 this weekend as well as it lost in the Mississippi 5A State Championship.

After being behind 13-3 in the fourth quarter, the Steelers scored both of their touchdowns 24 seconds apart to close out their 20-13 win. The Steelers and Cowboys are both expected to make the playoffs, so grab some Cowboys tickets or Steelers tickets and cheer in the cold.

Cowboys Continue Second Half Comeback with Huge Thanksgiving Win

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Seattle may not be the toughest opponent that Dallas could have played on Thanksgiving Day, but they certainly shouldn’t have the pushover that the Cowboys made them look like during their 34-9 Thanksgiving contest in Dallas.

Dallas has had its ups and downs this year, but lately its been nothing but ups, as Dallas has handled their competition easily in each of the last three weeks after much speculation about their playoff hopes.

Tony Romo was 22.34 for 287 yards on Thursday, while Jason Whitten caught nine of his passes for 115 yards. It was the type of offensive output that we all knew the Cowboys were capable of, but hadn’t seemed to show in the first half of the season.

As for the Defense, they allowed a FG in each of the first three quarters, but held the Seahawks scoreless in the final period. The Cowboys are legit, so grab some Dallas Cowboys tickets, get to the stadium, and watch them pummel some folks.

Dallas Looks to Continue Winning Ways

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Fresh off of a 14-10 win against bitter rival Washington, the Dallas Cowboys are looking to build on their recent success, while Tony Romo looks to continue to improve as he recovers from a mid-season leg injury.

Dallas is still looking for some consistency in its season, and the return of Romo may be just the boost they need to continue to make a run in the NFC. After starting the season 3-0, the Cowboys ran into the Redskins for the first time back in September. Washington prevailed in that matchup and Dallas went 2-4 during the middle stretch of the season before finding a their bye week two weeks ago.

They have a very mixed bag ahead of them with games against teams like Pittsburg, and the NY Giants, as well as easier contests against Seattle, and this week at San Francisco. They may need every victory they can scrape up in order to sit comfortably for the playoffs. Grab some Dallas Cowboys tickets and see if Romo, T.O. and Whitten can get it done.

Cowboys Look Forward to Romo’s Return

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

It’s been a tough stretch for Dallas under backup QB Brad Johnson. Over the past four weeks, the Cowboys have only mustered one win (in which they only put up 13 points against Tampa Bay) and their offense has simply not produced as they have not managed to score more than 14 points during any game during that stretch.

Romo is slated to return this week – and not a moment too soon, as the Cowboys face off with their most bitter NFC rivals, the Washington Redskins in a game that gives the Cowboys an opportunity to gain confidence, and the Redskins a chance a separation.

Earlier this week, Cowboys coach Jerry Jones told the press that the Cowboys will “absolutely make the playoffs”. Well Jerry, that road begins right now against Jason Campbell, Clinton Portis, and the Washington Redskins. The game will be televised on Sunday Night Football, but if you are in Washington, grab some Dallas Cowboys tickets, and see if Romo can get it done.

QB Matchup is Key for Dallas, Tampa Bay

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

All Eyes will be on the quarterbacks this week as Dallas and Tampa Bay go after each other on Sunday. The two QBs are very similar in that they are both old (TB QB Jeff Garcia is 38 and Dallas QB Brad Johnson is 40) and are both journeymen QB’s who have found themselves at the helm of suddenly struggling football teams.

Both teams are looking for a rise out of the middle of the NFL pack and a path to the playoffs. For Dallas this game is absolutely huge, with road games against Washington and the New York Giants looming. For Tampa Bay, this is a great opportunity to win a huge game and climb into the driver’s seat in the NFC South.

The big difference in the teams is that Johnson was recently thrust into the starting role behind center with the loss of Tony Romo, while Garcia has been the QB all season for the Bucs, who have so far managed a 5-2 record and an excellent shot at the playoffs.

If you’re anywhere near Texas Stadium this weekend, you have to get to this game! It’s guaranteed to be a fight, so grab your Cowboys tickets now!

With Romo Out, It’s Up to Johnson

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Tony Romo’s injury in last week’s Cowboys game was as big of an injury as we’ve seen in the NFL all year – well, except for the season-ending knee injury of Patriots QB Tom Brady, that is. In truth though, the two injuries are very similar. Both teams entered the season with lofty expectations – extremely lofty expectations, both teams were quarterback oriented with superb passing games and more-than-adequate rushing games, and both teams were led by playboy-type quarterbacks that are nearly as well known for their off-the-field escapades as their on-the-field play.

Romo’s finger injury, however, will likely only see him sidelined for a handful of games, as opposed to the entire season. But the real difference in the two comes in looking at their backups.

Brady’s now well-known backup, Matt Cassell , is young, inexperienced, and never started a game before in college or in the NFL. His lack of big game experience was a huge question mark for the Patriots offense, and in fact, still is. For those with Cowboys Tickets, they have a whole different kind of question mark when looking at Romo’s back up, Brad Johnson.

Johnson is not inexperienced, or young – in fact, that’s the problem. He’s 40 years old, the oldest QB in the league and in many fans’ minds isn’t going to be able to lead the team the same way that 28 year old Romo has. Nevertheless, we have seen great things from older quarterbacks and Johnson may not be any different than Kirk Warner, Brett Favre, or Vinny Testeverde.

Then again, there’s Trent Green who has struggled so severely with injuries that he’s constantly teetering on the edge of retirement – hopefully for Johnson he’ll be among the latter group.
