The Book of Mormon From the Creators of South Park

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Last month, New York’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre welcomed a new musical to Broadway. From the brains behind television’s satirical “South Park,” “The Book of Mormon” premiered to Broadway audiences last week.

The story begins in Salt Lake City, Utah and follows Elder Cunningham and Elder Price as they are sent to Uganda for missionary work. These two are the ultimate odd couple as Cunningham has been described as a chubby, dim-witted underachieving loser, while Price is a clean-cut, white-bread, overachiever.

In poverty and AIDS stricken Africa, Cunningham and Price put their Mormon faith to the test as they work to convert souls with the Book of Mormon. They eventually convince a few Ugandans to convert through the use of lies, but trouble unfolds when the truth of their lies comes out.

The show features an original book with hilarious music and lyrics from Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with composer-lyricist Robert Lopez of “Avenue Q.” This musical may be good and old-fashioned, but there is still some wildly offensive jokes along the way, making this musical completely outspoken and hilarious.

“The Book of Mormon” is now open, with performances scheduled Tuesday-Sunday at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in New York City.

Despite Injuries Spiderman the Musical Still Sells Out

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

Yet another “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” cast member has sustained an injury during a performance of this Broadway musical. In February, T.V. Carpio told an interviewer that she did feel safe in the show. Despite her insistence of this, it seems as though Carpio was not as safe as she thought.

Carpio, who plays Arachne in this injury-prone Broadway musical, was injured on March 16 while performing an onstage battle with another cast member. No further details on how the injury happened are known as of now, but she will more than likely be out of the show for at least two weeks.

Due to a plethora of technical issues, “Spider-Man” has experienced countless delays causing them to push back the opening date numerous times. With more than 110 preview performances, this musical has become the first musical with over 100. Most musicals on the stages of Broadway today typically only have somewhere between 25 and 40 of these preview performances.

With a $65 million budget, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is the most expensive Broadway production in history. When (or if) the show finally opens, it will truly be something spectacular and entertaining to all audiences.

Spider-Man the Musical Could Delay Opening Once Again

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Broadway’s new musical, Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark is perpetually experiencing delays that continue to push back the show’s official opening date. After numerous injured actors, and countless rescheduled opening nights, there are rumors circulating that the opening night of this problem-proned musical may be pushed back to an even later date.

Rumor has it that the producers of the musical are considering a change in the current opening date of Tuesday, March 15. They may be looking to push it back until June, but either way the show is yearning for an official opening night. The show has been in previews since last year, which means Spider-Man is on it’s way to becoming the musical with the most preview shows.

If the opening date is pushed back until June, the performance on March 15 would act as a “celebration of sorts for the work done so far.” Although the early performances of Spider-Man the musical received poor reviews, the musical has come a long way since then. Many of the technical kinks have been worked out, and many aspects are being tweaked in order to improve the story and overall quality of the production.

With a $65 million budget, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is the most expensive Broadway production in history. When the show finally opens, it will truly be something spectacular and entertaining to all audiences.

Spider-Man Cancels Performances Due to Safety Precautions

Monday, December 27th, 2010

The new Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark cannot seem to catch a break. First, the show experienced countless problems, which forced them to push its opening date back multiple times. Now that the show has finally opened, Spider-Man continues to be a trouble maker.

The show relies heavily on the use of props and cables in order to perform flying stunts. This has been the root of many of the problems. Previews for the show have received poor reviews due to the technical glitches, and constant delays.

Last week two performances were cancelled while producers attempted to focus on solving all of the safety concerns. The cancellations were provoked by an afternoon performance that accidentally sent a Spider-Man stunt double into a stage pit, and left him seriously injured. New safety measures were put into effect after this unfortunate incident.

Regardless of all the problems that Spider-Man is experiencing, the show must go on. During Sunday night’s blizzard the show still remained to draw a crowd despite the harsh weather. Once the musical irons out all of the technical glitches, the show is sure to be a huge hit.

Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark is scheduled to celebrate opening night at the Foxwoods Theater on January 11, 2011.

Spiderman Could be Broadway’s Next Hit

Friday, December 10th, 2010

After years of delays, previews for Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark have finally began. This highly anticipated musical is a big budget production that could be Broadway’s next big thing.

The musical version of Marvel Comics superhero, Spider-Man, is directed by Julie Taymor, and the show will feature music from U2′s Bono and The Edge.

Although previews for the show have received poor reviews due to their technical glitches, there is still hope for this new spectacle. The use of props and cables are necessary due to the flying stunts performed in the musical, however these were the cause of the numerous stops during the first show.

The show may have experienced some technical hardships on the first night of previews, but they have made improvements. During the second night of previews Spider-Man was able to work out many of the kinks, and the show only stopped once.

Since this much improvement was made in just one night, many are confident that the technical problems will be worked out by Opening night.

Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark is scheduled to celebrate opening night at the Foxwoods Theater on January 11, 2011.
