Just a few short weeks ago Oregon was leading the BCS Championship standings, and Auburn was following behind at No. 2. Now it has been announced that one of the most anticipated games of the year will feature the Oregon Ducks against the Auburn Tigers. These were the top two teams in the BCS standings, which includes six computer rankings, the Harris Interactive Poll, and the USA Today Coaches’ Poll.

Since 1998 fans have been looking forward to the annual BCS National Championship game that determines the national champ for college Division I football. After winning six national titles in six appearances, the Southeastern Conference certainly has been in control.

During last season’s BCS National Championship game, Texas was defeated by Alabama. Louisiana State University has won two national title, as well as The Florida Gators. LSU and Florida remain the only two teams to win more than one title.

The 2011 National Championship Championship Bowl will be held at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. This stadium has been the site of two previous national title games. For the third week in a row, Oregon remains number one in the standings for the Bowl Championship Series. The standings that were released on Sunday also revealed that Auburn is number 2 for the third straight week.

These standings are made up of three factors that each count for one-third of a team’s total BCS average. These three factors include and average of six computer rankings, the USA Today Coaches Poll, and the Harris Interactive Poll.

Number 1 Oregon ranked number 2 in the computer polls, while remaining at the coveted number one spot for both of the human polls. Auburn was once again ranked number 2 in the human polls, and took the number one spot in the computers.

TCU follows at number 3 with an average of .8966, and with an average of .8634 Boise State is currently in fourth place. Up one spot from number 12, Alabama moved to number 11, and are now just behind Oklahoma State in tenth. Florida State has under half the average as Oregon, and are currently in 25th place.

The BCS National Championship Bowl will be held at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California on Thursday, January 7, 2010. This Bowl will include the match up of the Alabama Crimson Tide vs. the Texas Longhorns.

On Saturday, December 12, Alabama’s Mark Ingram became the winner of the 75th Heisman Trophy, which is awarded each year to the nation’s top college football player. He will be the 6th Hesiman winner in the past 7 years to go on to play in the BCS national championship game. Ingram became the 3rd sophomore in a row to win the Hesiman Trophy since 2007 when Tebow became the first.

The award was well deserved as Ingram has been a great foundation for Alabama’s offense. He has scored 18 touchdowns, holds the school record for rushing yards with 1,542, and has gained an average of 6.2 yards per carry.

This was the closest vote in the award’s history. Ingram received 227 first-places votes and 1,304 points while Toby Gerhart received 222 first-places votes and 1, 276 points. Texas quarterback, and last season’s runner up, Colt McCoy got 203 first-place votes and 1,145 points.
