MLB Faced With Decision About Next Year’s All-Star Game
Tuesday, May 11th, 2010The 2011 MLB All Star Game is already stirring up a bit of controversy. Across the United States immigration activists and sports columnists are requesting that baseball fans fight for the MLB to move next year’s game location out of Phoenix, Arizona.
Arizona’s new immigration law that says police are required to determine a person’s legal status, and would also require immigrants to have documentation on them that confirms their immigration status is the cause of the uproar.
Many activists say that almost a third of professional baseball players are Latino. Many of the Latino players are in Arizona, which makes it a major target for those against Arizona’s new law. The people who are opposed to the new law are hoping to use economic boycotts to convince the state to change the law.
The head of presente.org created an online petition in which he collected over 100,000 signatures in just a week. Roberto Lovato’s petition demanded that the commissioner of baseball pull the 2011 All-Star Game out of Arizona.
Major League Baseball is facing potential problems in Arizona for next year’s All-Star Game, but there is no question about the 2010 MLB All-Star Weekend. The MLB All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Angel Stadium.
