NY Rangers vs Philadelphia Flyers in 2012 Winter Classic

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

Last week, 2012 Winter Classic Tickets were the hottest tickets on SelectATicket.com. Rightfully so, as the Winter Classic has become a January tradition for the National Hockey League. The tradition also entails taking the game to its outdoor roots, this time in Pennsylvania for the second year in a row.

Last year’s Winter Classic held on New Year’s Day was at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field and featured the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Buffalo Sabres. This year Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park will host a cut throat hockey game between the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday, January 2, 2012.

This year’s Classic will be reigniting a fierce rivalry within the Atlantic Division. The Rangers and Flyers will meet twice during the regular season, both in New York City, before duking it out on January 2 in Philadelphia.

The Rangers may feel as though they have much more to prove, given the recent history between the two teams. Back in 2010 the Flyers made it to the playoffs by the skin of their teeth, which can be attributed to their huge win over the Rangers on the last day of the regular season.

The 2012 NHL Winter Classic featuring the New York Rangers against the Philadelphia Flyers will be held on Monday, January 2 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA.

Giants Win Home Opener

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Mother Monster, Lady Gaga, was spotted enjoying the New York Giants crush the St. Louis Rams on Monday at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. Gaga showed love for her team by rocking a Giants hat mismatched with a classy dress, and poured out a glass of champagne during the fourth quarter in honor of their 28-16 victory.

Monday night’s win was exactly what the Giants needed, especially after a poor performance and disappointing loss in their season opener against the Washington Redskins. Two of New York’s touchdowns were completed passes by Eli Manning. Manning slipped away with one interception while completing 18 of 29 passes for 200 yards.

The final Giants’ touchdown spawned from a crucial mistake by the Rams. The Rams opened the gate to New York’s victory by playing carelessly and fumbling the ball. Michael Boley took full advantage of this mistake, and scored an essential touchdown on a 65-yard fumble return.

The Giants are entering the NFL’s third week where they will compete against Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles. The New York Giants will play their next game against the Eagles at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, September 25.

Foo Fighters Performing at New Jersey’s Izod Center

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Last month Foo Fighters kicked off their 27-date North American tour in St. Paul, MN. During a tremendous two-and-a-half hour set, this Grammy Award-winning band performed their large catalogue of smash hits including “Best of You,” “Everlong,” “The Pretender,” and “My Hero.” The alternative rock band is fronted by Dave Grohl, the former drummer of the 90′s grunge band Nirvana. Grohl now plays guitar, having relinquished the drumsticks to the talented Taylor Hawkins. The Foo Fighters deliver unpredictable concerts, often throwing in covers and other high-energy antics.

The band was formed in 1995, originally drafted by Grohl as a solo project, and has released 7 albums. Six were Grammy nominated for Best Rock Album and three walked away with the coveted award. In total, the band has won six Grammys and show no sign of curbing future success. Grohl and the Foo Fighters were described by Pitchfork Media as “his generation’s answer to Tom Petty- a consistent hit machine pumping out working-class rock.”

Show venues include Chicago, Kansas City, Cleveland, Pittsburg, and several others. Venues will be set in large stadium atmospheres, for it seems to fit the energy of the Foo Fighters the best and the arenas barely fit the bands extremely large fan base. So come on out and see the Foo Fighters rock an arena near you.

The Foo Fighters will be coming to the Izod Center on September 26, 2011. Look no further, Select-A-Ticket has all the Foo Fighters Tickets you need!

Top Kentucky Derby Contenders Are Emerging Already

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Little is more American than the Kentucky Derby. Inaugurated in 1875, people have gathered every year to watch what has been called “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.” Attendance for the Derby ranks highest in North America and usually eclipses all other stakes races.

At the Kentucky Derby, three-year-old horses are pitted against each other on a one and a quarter mile racetrack called the Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The winner is rewarded with a fat purse, a blanket of 554 red roses, and the chance to win the Triple Crown. The event is rich with history and tradition, making it much more than just a race.

The 2012 Kentucky Derby cannot come soon enough for those who have been to the event previously. There are whispers of who the next champion horse and jockey pair may be. Although it is still too early to know exactly which pairs will be in the race, there are is a long list promising contenders.

The top 3 ranked horses are currently Creative Cause, Majestic City, and Overdriven, all of which are Kentucky bred. If you find yourself in the mood to experience a pastime older than baseball then come out to the 2012 Kentucky Derby, especially because there might not be a 2013.

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Making his musical debut at the age of 16, R&B singer, songwriter, dancer, and now actor Chris Brown released his self-titled album in 2005. The single “Run It” blew away the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and the album became certified double Platinum after selling over two million copies in the United States.

You may recognize some of his other popular singles like “Kiss Kiss” featuring T-Pain, which became his second number one hit. “With You” and “Forever” both peaked at number two. To date Chris Brown has eight singles to reach Top 20 on the chart and another Platinum record, Exclusive, released in 2007.

Chris Brown’s music took a hit in 2009 after pleading guilty to felony assault of his girlfriend at the time, The Barbadian R&B singer Rihanna. For a while his music was boycotted on radios, TV ads featuring him were suspended, and he abstained from public appearances.

Now that he has had time to make amends and publicly apologize for his mistake he returns to the R&B world with his “F.A.M.E. Tour” supporting his fourth studio album, F.A.M.E., released March 18 this year. Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Follies’ Returns to Broadway Stage

Friday, September 9th, 2011

The musical “Follies” debuted on Broadway in 1971 and has since been nominated for eleven Tony Awards, winning seven of them. “Follies” tells the story of a reunion amongst former performers in the musical revue Weismann’s Follies, who were active during the time period between World War I and World War II.

Staged in a run-down Broadway theatre, the plot focuses on two former Follies showgirls Sally and Phyllis and their troubled marriages with respective husbands. Sally and her husband Buddy must cope with Buddy’s affair with another woman, as well as Sally’s residual feelings for her past love Ben – who is also Phyllis’ husband. Simultaneously, Phyllis and Ben struggle with Phyllis’ feelings of emotional abandonment by the self-absorbed Ben.

However, both Sally and Phyllis share an awakening of how much they have changed since their days in the Weismann’s Follies. It is quite literally illustrated by the ghostly images of the women’s younger selves which are present throughout the performance.

Though the production has been altered over the course of its existence, several musical numbers have remained consistent in Follies, such as “Broadway Baby”, “I’m Still Here” and “Losing My Mind”. These legendary songs, as well as the thoughtfully prepared story line, have made Follies one of the most well-known Broadway productions.

Blink 182 Returns With The Honda Civic Tour

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

After returning from a six-year hiatus, American pop-punk band Blink-182 has returned to the concert circuit. The band (consisting of vocalist/bassist Mark Hoppus, vocalist/guitarist Tom DeLonge and drummer Travis Barker) teamed up with the alternative-rock band My Chemical Romance to bring fans the 2011 Honda Civic Tour.

The tour will also feature a variety of supporting artists, such as punk-rock band Rancid at the Comfort Dental Amphitheater in Denver, CO on September 4th, 2011 and dance-punk duo Matt and Kim at the Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis, MN on September 7th, 2011.

Since their formation in 1992, Blink-182 has developed a unique and energetic musical style that is apparent in their well-known albums such as “Enema of the State” (1999) and “Take Your Pants Off and Jacket” (2001). While Blink-182 has guaranteed to play classic smash-hits from these albums such as “What’s My Age Again?” and “All The Small Things”, they will also be introducing new music from their recently finished album “Neighborhoods”.

As described by DeLonge, the album blends Blink-182’s signature musical style with a new progressive rock tone. Fans can expect “Neighborhoods” to be on sale sometime tentatively in late September 2011, but those at the Honda Civic Tour will be able to preview new songs (such as their first single from the new CD, “Up All Night”) before anyone else.

Beyonce Begins Mini Tour

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Earlier this month, superstar Beyonce gave New York concert goers a reason to get excited. She announced a mini tour entitled “4 Intimate Nights With Beyonce” consisting of four performances at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom.

The tour is in support of the singer’s fourth studio album, 4, which debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. Not only does the title of the tour mimic the album title, but it also suggests that this Columbia Records diva will give an intimate performance to small audiences.

During this mini concert series B will perform her latest album in its entirety. Although the set list only consists of all 12 songs from 4, it isn’t out of the question for an encore of “Halo” or “Crazy In Love.”

Although none were announced, it isn’t completely out of the question for there to be any guest appearances. The album features an amazing verse from Outkast member Andre 3000, and numerous snippets from the album’s producer, Kanye West.

The alpha female will be performing at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on August 14, 16, 18, and 19. Tickets to see B at Roseland are expected to be difficult to get a hold of, but Select-A-Ticket has all your ticketing needs. Get your Beyonce Tickets from Select-A-Ticket now!

New York Jets are Taking Shape

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

Six months after placing a franchise tag on linebacker David Harris, preventing him from becoming a free agent, the Jets signed a multiyear contract extension with him on Tuesday. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed by the Jets. The Associated Press reported the four-year agreement to be worth $36 million, with $29.6 million guaranteed, a record for an inside linebacker.

“Last year they pretty much gave me their word that we’d be a priority this upcoming year,” Harris said. “They followed up on their word… I was patient. I knew that (GM) Mike (Tannenbaum) would come through on his promise.”

In 59 NFL games Harris has 428 tackles and in three of his four seasons with the Jets he has led the team in tackles. Harris was also the Jets’ Most Valuable Player last season.

Earlier in the week, the Jets re-signed cornerback Antonio Cromartie to a four-year contract that ESPN reported to be worth $32 million. The Jets also signed former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress to a one-year, $3.017 million contract. Burress has been out of the NFL for the past two seasons after serving 20 months in prison for gun charges. Burress has 505 catches for 7,845 yards and 55 touchdowns in his NFL career with the Steelers and Giants.

This signing comes as good news for the Jets after losing out on cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who surprisingly signed with Philadelphia.

It is clear the New York Jets intend to surpass the successes of last season and take a run at the Super Bowl this year. Be a part of the action at Meadowlands Stadium and order New York Jets tickets today.
