Academy Award winner Robin Williams will make his Broadway debut in the premiere of Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Williams will be portraying the thoughtful role of the tiger at the Richard Rodgers Theatre with direction from two-time Tony Award nominee Moisés Kaufman.
Williams has only previously been on Broadway during a limited engagement of a comedy show eight years ago. This production marks his first role as an actor on the Broadway stage. Also marking playwright Rajiv Joseph’s Broadway debut, this musical is a first for many involved. As a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, this play is an creative drama about the Iraq War.
Kaufman describes the musical as a”ferocious comedy” that narrates the lives of a “a tiger, two American marines and an Iraqi gardener as they roam the streets of Baghdad in search of friendship, redemption and a toilet seat made of gold.” This musical features certain scenes abnormal sense of humor, but is mainly a dreary dark production.
Previews for Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo begin on March 11, 2011, and you can watch Robin Williams on opening night on Thursday March 31, 2011.

Broadway’s new musical, Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark is perpetually experiencing delays that continue to push back the show’s official opening date. After numerous injured actors, and countless rescheduled opening nights, there are rumors circulating that the opening night of this problem-proned musical may be pushed back to an even later date.
Rumor has it that the producers of the musical are considering a change in the current opening date of Tuesday, March 15. They may be looking to push it back until June, but either way the show is yearning for an official opening night. The show has been in previews since last year, which means Spider-Man is on it’s way to becoming the musical with the most preview shows.
If the opening date is pushed back until June, the performance on March 15 would act as a “celebration of sorts for the work done so far.” Although the early performances of Spider-Man the musical received poor reviews, the musical has come a long way since then. Many of the technical kinks have been worked out, and many aspects are being tweaked in order to improve the story and overall quality of the production.
With a $65 million budget, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is the most expensive Broadway production in history. When the show finally opens, it will truly be something spectacular and entertaining to all audiences.

The new Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark cannot seem to catch a break. First, the show experienced countless problems, which forced them to push its opening date back multiple times. Now that the show has finally opened, Spider-Man continues to be a trouble maker.
The show relies heavily on the use of props and cables in order to perform flying stunts. This has been the root of many of the problems. Previews for the show have received poor reviews due to the technical glitches, and constant delays.
Last week two performances were cancelled while producers attempted to focus on solving all of the safety concerns. The cancellations were provoked by an afternoon performance that accidentally sent a Spider-Man stunt double into a stage pit, and left him seriously injured. New safety measures were put into effect after this unfortunate incident.
Regardless of all the problems that Spider-Man is experiencing, the show must go on. During Sunday night’s blizzard the show still remained to draw a crowd despite the harsh weather. Once the musical irons out all of the technical glitches, the show is sure to be a huge hit.
Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark is scheduled to celebrate opening night at the Foxwoods Theater on January 11, 2011.

Originally scheduled to open on Broadway December 21, 2010, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark has pushed back opening night once more. This is something that is all too unfamiliar to this action-adventure musical. Producers have made the decision to delay the show’s opening by three weeks, and is now finally set to celebrate it’s opening night on January 11, 2011.
Lead producer Michael Cohn released a statement on Friday saying ”shows like ours, that embrace the challenge of opening on Broadway without an out-of-town tryout, often need to adjust their schedules along the way.” He blamed an “unprecedented level of technical artistry” as the cause of many of the delays in production.
Previews will begin just after a busy Thanksgiving holiday, on Sunday, November 28, which is not exactly the best time to open a new Broadway play. The musical has been in the making for over six years, and unfortunately the show has experienced unavoidable delays. These delays include a loss of their lead character, and now injuries to two of the starring actors, causing this undesirable opening date.
Despite a years worth of delays, this production seems as though it will be worth the wait. This show features a cast of 41 members and an orchestra of 18 members. The designer of the aerial stunts performed in the show was completed by a longtime member of Cirque du Soleil. Spider-Man the musical promises to take live theatre to the next level with this groundbreaking musical.
