A Broadway favorite will be welcoming Jordin Sparks to the stage for her Broadway debut. The 2008 Tony Award Winner for Best Musical, In The Heights will be graced with Sparks’ presence for a limited 12 week engagement.

Beginning Thursday, August 19, 2010 you can see the 2007 American Idol winner making her debut as Nina Rosario in In The Heights. The Jive Records platinum artist will play Nina through Sunday, November 14, 2010.

Sparks was just 16 years old when she auditioned for Idol, and to this day she remains the youngest contestant ever to win the singing competition. Her voice blew the judges and America away, and you can bet she will be bringing that talent with her to the Broadway stage in In The Heights.

In The Heights is a Latin inspired musical set in Washington Heights, New York. The show manages to remain light even when telling the story of the problems that the characters come across. This musical is very energetic and has been compared to an uptown version of Rent.

Tickets for Jordin Sparks’ Broadway engagement are on sale now, do not miss your chance to see this effervescent pop star take on Broadway. In The Heights runs Thursdays through Tuesdays at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City.

After originally premiering on Broadway in 1949, South Pacific was arguably one of the greatest musicals of the twentieth century. The original production won ten Tony Awards, and had audiences raving.

In 2008 the musical was revived, and audiences loved it just as much. The revival was a hit, which is proved by the amazing night it had at the Tony Awards two years ago. South Pacific was nominated for eleven Tony awards and took home the awards for seven including Best Direction of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, and Best Revival of a Musical. Two years later the musical is still a hit.

The musical is set during World War Two on a little island in the South Pacific. U.S. sailors who are preparing to make an attack against the Japanese Empire are occupying the island. The story follows a couple whose romance is threatened by the dangers of war and their own prejudices. South Pacific will take to you back in time where you will see if Nellie and Emile can overcome their prejudices, and not let the war tear them apart.

This Rodgers and Hammerstein musical revival is a one of a kind show. The musical runs every Tuesday-Sunday at the Beaumont Theatre in New York City.

Jersey Boys has been captivating audiences since its opening on November 6, 2005 at the August Wilson Theatre. Now in it’s fourth year, the musical has lengthened its booking to January 2, 2011.

Told in a documentary style, Jersey Boys is the story of the popular 1960′s rock and roll band, The Four Seasons. Band members Frankie Valli, Tommy Devito, Nick Massi, and Bob Gaudio are all blue collar boys who together become a huge hit sensation. The musical tells the coming of age of the band while highlighting their rise, fall, and success.

The musical opened to great reviews from the New York Post, Star-Ledger, and others. Then in 2006 Jersey Boys was named the winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical. Audiences and critics agree that this one of a kind musical is still going strong.

Jersey Boys would not be as successful if it weren’t for all of the people involved including two-time Tony Award winning director Des McAnuff, writers Rick Elice and Marshall Brickman, and choreographer Sergio Trujillo. The musical features amazing music by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe. Surely you will enjoy the music from this show, and you may even recognize some of the tunes such as “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “December 1963 (Oh, What A Night).”

Since opening night nearly eight years ago, Wicked still remains the most popular musical on Broadway. This Broadway production is the most well received musical in New York City, and some fans even would go as far as to say it is the best musical of this century.

Wicked is an outstanding musical that takes you on an enchanted adventure to the past where you find out what happened before Dorothy ever went to see the Wizard of Oz. Known as the untold story of the Witches of Oz, Wicked gives you insight to when Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West meet for the first time as college roommates.

Not only is the storyline spellbinding, but the musical as a whole is too. Wicked features a large stage, and a magnificent set with great lighting which brings it to life. In addition the costumes are show stoppers from Glinda’s pink puffy dress to the outfits of the natives from Emerald City. The choreography, music, and lyrics top off the whole amazing experience to make Wicked the best musical of the century.

Wicked has appeared on our Top 5 events list numerous times, including the past five weeks in a row. You don’t want to miss out on seeing this spectacular Broadway musical.
For nearly five years the Broadway show, Jersey Boys, has been playing to sold out audiences. Audiences and critics agree that Jersey Boys is a sensational one of a kind musical. In 2006, the show won several Tony awards including Best Musical.

Jersey Boys the musical features The Four Season, a 1960′s rock and roll band comprised by the members Frankie Valli, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi, and Bob Gaudio. The musical follows the band’s coming of age which tells the story of their rise, success, and fall. Uncommon for a musical, it is told in a documentary style as each member of the band taking turns narrating the story.

Each individual band member as well as the band collectively, has many life struggles. These complications include gambling debts, Mafia threats, and family disasters that they are forced to deal with throughout the musical.

The band grew up together in the tough neighborhoods of New Jersey where they sang, rehearsed, and they ultimately used their innovative style to their advantage and founded the Doo Wop genre. You’ll definitely enjoy the music from this show, and you may even recognize some of the tunes such as “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and “December 1963 (Oh, What A Night).”

Memphis the Musical starring Chad Kimball and Montego Glover has become a broadway sensation.
After the musical about the birth of rock ‘n’ roll in the 1950’s received a visit from first lady Michelle Obama, and first daughters Sasha and Malia, it got the jump it needed. Without an unfamiliar title and starring actor in addition to a mixed review opening, the show is becoming a legitimate hit at the box office.

Sue Frost, one of the lead producers of Memphis the Musical says what the show is experiencing is a “slow and steady build.” It seems as though this is the case since the show opened in the Fall of 2009, and is finally picking up speed now.

Memphis the Musical is set in Memphis Tennessee where a white DJ named Huey Calhoun has a love for the music he hears in the black bars. He falls in love with a rising black singer named Felicia Farrell. These two characters work together to help her break out of segregated clubs, and onto the radio where audiences everywhere can experience how rock ‘n’ roll become popular. However, when he falls in love with this beautiful singer, there are some consequences.

Memphis the Musical is now on Broadway at the prime location of the Shubert Theatre in New York City. The showtimes are Sundays at 3, Tuesdays at 7, Wednesdays at 2 and 8, Thursdays at 8, Fridays at 8, and Saturdays at 2 and 8.

Megan Mullally was set to star in the Broadway revival of “Lips Together, Teeth Apart,” a Terrence McNally play. However, she quit the show this week causing the opening of previews to be postponed for the spring season. The Roundabout Theater Company announced the postponement on Thursday following Mullally’s decision to quit.

Megan Mullally, best known for playing Karen Walker on “Will and Grace,” abruptly quit the show. Frustration with the lack of experience from her co-star Patton Oswalt led to her departure from “Lips Together, Teeth Apart” on Wednesday.

In a statement, Roundabout Theater Company’s artistic director Todd Haimes said that they were “surprised and disappointed,” and that it was a breach of contract. Her replacement will be named shortly, but since the show was supposed to start preview performances on April 9 the first preview will be delayed.

Although the first preview of the show will be delayed, Haimes did say that the opening date will remain on Thursday April 29, 2010. Other cast members for the show include Patton Oswalt, David Wilson Barnes, and lily Taylor.

Among the many problems delaying the opening of the Broadway musical, “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark” is yet another hindrance. This time the actress set to play Mary Jane has dropped out. In a statement made by the producers of “Spider-Man” they said that Evan Rachel Wood dropped out of the musical due to a scheduling conflict.

Just 15 months after the announcement was made that she would be starring as Mary Jane, Wood made her departure public. The statement made by the producer, Michael Cohl, made it clear that Evan Rachel Wood was not required to stay with the musical, and that a search for a new Mary Jane was in progress. He also announced that the opening of the show would be delayed until later this year.

The creators and producers of “Spider-Man” have began to worry that other cast and crew members would also be taking on other projects and would therefore drop out of the musical. Cast members include Reeve Carney, who is set to star as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Spider-Man, and Tony Award winner Alan Cumming.

The last week in February made for a slow week at many Broadway box offices. The New York City area has experienced many heavy snowstorms this winter which made ticket sales decline for many musicals and plays on the stages of Broadway.

Many plays in previews such as “Looped,”and “Next Fall,” had a slow week in sales. Some of the Major musicals experienced a drop of 30% or more in their weekly box office grosses. “West Side Story,” “Mamma Mia!,” “The Lion King,” and “Chicago” were a few out of the many musicals that were affected by the harsh snow storms in the NYC area.

However, there was one musical that did actually do well at the box offices. “A Little Night Music” is a musical revival which had a return from its star, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Broadway’s slow end to February grossed a total of 14.2 million as opposed to the $17.8 million grossed the week before.

Now that the snow storms are over, it is your chance to come enjoy the beautiful New York City weather and see a Broadway play such as Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys, American Idiot, Wicked, and more!

The Broadway production of Wicked is standing the test of time. According to the people, it has been and is remaining to be the best and biggest Broadway musical in New York City. Seven years since opening on Broadway, Wicked still continues to break barriers. In early January the production broke the $2 million barrier in one-week. This was the third time doing so since November 2009.

Everyone knows what happened to Dorothy and her little dog too, but Wicked takes you to the past where you find out what happened before the 1939 movie classic “The Wizard of Oz.” This magical adventure shows you where Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch meet in the Land of Oz before Dorothy was ever a part of their lives. The two witches meet in college, and hate each other in the beginning. However, before their lives go their different ways they learn to care for each other.

The incredible music of Wicked written by composer and lyricist, Stephen Schwartz has been delighting audiences for years with amazing numbers including “The Wizard and I”, “Popular”, and the enchanting “Defying Gravity.”

A new comedy based on a real event is coming to Broadway. Looped follows a summer night in 1965 when celebrated actress Tallulah Bankhead was called into the sound studio. She was called into the studio to re-record (or loop) the words “Die, die my darling,” a line from her final film.

However, when she shows up to loop the line she is completely intoxicated. Tallulah Bankhead was known to be a rebel. She was a party girl who experimented with alcohol, drugs, and bisexuality. She was definitely a bad girl in Hollywood at her time. During this recording session, she was far too inebriated to properly loop the line for the film, and a fight begins between the editor of the film, and Ms. Bankhead herself.

Starring in the Broadway show is Valerie Harper, whose claim to fame was as Rhonda on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. She became a Broadway star with her performance in The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife. The director of the show is Rob Ruggiero who is nationally recognized for both his musicals and plays.

Looped will begin previews at the Lyceum Theatre in New York City on Friday, February 19, 2010.

The Million Dollar Quartet is coming to Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City. The production has been playing for almost a year in Chicago with fantastic reviews, and the New York previews will begin on March 13, 2010. The Million Dollar Quartet will officially open on April 11, 2010.

This Broadway musical is based on a recording session which brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and Carl Perkins together. December 4, 1956 was the date that Sam Phillips brought this incredible foursome together at the Sun Records studio in Memphis, Tennessee. This impromptu recording session and the uniting of these four legends made this recording session one of the greatest rock jams of all time.

The Million Dollar Quartet will feature some of the greatest country, rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, and R&B songs from each of these legendary performers. These songs include “I Walk the Line,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Whole Lotta’ Shakin’ Goin’ On,” and more. The Million Dollar Quartet on Broadway captures the moment these 4 musical genius’ came together in their prime for music.

Avenue Q will play its final performance on Sunday, September 13 at the John Golden Theatre in New York City. This Tony Award winning Broadway show for Best Musical will have played 22 previews and 2,534 performances when it closes. Based on the book by Jeff Whitty, this show features music and lyrics written by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx with direction by Jason Moore.

The show is greatly inspired by Sesame Street. Some of the characters are in fact puppets that sing, as do the live characters. The show is definitely an adult advancement of Sesame Street that can be enjoyed by both adults and teenagers because of its relation to real life.

Avenue Q is about a broke college graduate named Princeton who wants to move to New York City and make a life for himself. He has a hard time fulfilling this dream due to his empty pockets and the high cost of living in the City. The only place he is able to afford is Avenue Q! When he moves to Avenue Q he meets all kinds of quirky people and makes many new friends. They struggle together to ultimately try to find their purpose in life.

For over four years the Broadway show, Jersey Boys, has been playing to sold out audiences. Audiences and critics agree that Jersey Boys is a sensational one of a kind musical. In 2006, the show won several Tony awards including Best Musical.

The show features the 1960′s rock and roll band, The Four Seasons, formed by members Frankie Valli, Nick Massi, Tommy DeVito and Bob Gaudio. Jersey Boys the musical follows the band’s coming of age and tells the story of their rise, fall, and success.

Uncommon for a musical, Jersey Boys has a documentary style storyline. The show is told by each member of the band taking turns narrating the story.

Each individual band member, and the band collectively have many life struggles, such as gambling debts, Mafia threats and family disasters, that they are forced to deal with throughout the musical.

What was once a huge hit in London has made its way to Broadway at the Imperial Theatre in New York City. Billy Elliot has out shined many Broadway musicals by being nominated for Best Musical and fifteen other Tony awards including Best Original Score, Best Costume Design of a Musical, and Best Choreography.

With a little help from musical legend, Elton John, this Broadway show is based on the critically acclaimed British feature film and comes to life on stage. Elton John wrote a brand new score for the Broadway version of Billy Elliot. The show stars David Alvarez, Trent Kowlaik, and Kiril Kulish uniquely sharing the role of Billy.

Billy Elliot, an eleven year old child who is without a mother, is growing up in a northern town where men box and work in mines. He manages to find his way out of boxing practice and into a ballet class. He is attracted to the grace of ballet and secretly continues to take dance class in hopes of attending the Royal Ballet School in London. Billy Elliot is a story of one boy trying to follow his heart and make his dreams come true!

This week’s hottest events on SelectATicket.com is led by David Beckham’s return to MLS soccer when the LA Galaxy visit Red Bull New York on July 16th at Giants Stadium. That is closely followed by another Giants Stadium event, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s string of concerts as the final musical act at the current Giants Stadium. There has been a lot of interest in those shows as the die-hard Bruce fans all want to see at least one of those shows.

In this time of economic turmoil, we hear almost on a daily basis about various companies losing various amounts of money and how the economy is hurting everyone – from the auto industry, to the entertainment industry. In fact a recent report from the Wall Street Journal highlighted the specific effects of the recession on the entertainment industry.

Superstar musicians were effected the most, as Elton John is believed to have lost nearly 1/3 of his portfolio while Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney came in second and third on the ominous list with estimated losses of around 22 and 15 percent, respectively.

However, the survey also listed the biggest winners in the entertainment industry, and – by no surprise, one of the recession-proof Broadway producers topped the list. Judy Craymer, whose Abba-based and film stage show sold no shortage of tickets on Broadway and managed to gross more than 2.5 billion worldwide, turned in a 2008 profit of 29%. In these tough times, that ain’t bad at all!

American Idol creator, Simon Fuller and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber also made significant gains in ’08.

When Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush made known his intentions to perform on Broadway after a long and extremely successful on-screen career, there were many skeptics. After all, he has never done a Broadway show before, even though he was classically trained on the stage in Australia.

But Rush chose a great role – as a 400 year old king in the absurdist comedy, “Exit the King” and his comedic and dramatic abilities were showcased and extremely well received. The New York Post said “a major injustice has finally been rectified” with the 57-year-old actor finally making an appearance on the US’s biggest stage.

“Were he a Brit instead of an Aussie, New York theatergoers would rave over Rush instead of Simon Russell Beale or Ian McKellen,” wrote New York Post critic Elisabeth Vincentelli. “And we’d probably have seen him in something like ‘Macbeth’ or ‘Uncle Vanya’ by now.”

“Exit the King is scheduled for only a three-month run, so grab Broadway tickets today to see Rush in all his glory.

“Race”, a new play by legendary stage and film writer, David Mamet, has found a director for its Broadway run – a director who is well versed in the works of David Mamet and even his most recent creation.

David Mamet will be directing his own play on Broadway, which is set to open in December. At this point, that’s about all we know, as very little has been released about the show, which is still in the very early stages of pre-production. No cast or even so much as a plot description has been announced, but suffice it to say, Mamet is the perfect choice to direct this show.

If you are fan of Mamet, put this one on your radar, and be prepared to buy Broadway tickets as soon as they go on sale.

After a 29-year hiatus, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim’s “West Side Story” has returned to Broadway yesterday to a packed house and to mostly positive reviews. Critics from across the Broadway sector had their say about the direction the musical has taken under 91-year old producer (and original creator of the book), Arthur Laurents.

The show revolves around doomed lovers Tony and Maria, caught in the middle of a clash between the Jets, a self-styled Anglo gang, and the Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang. The 1957 musical, which was made into a film in 1961 starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer and Rita Moreno, features such classic songs as “Tonight,” “Somewhere” and “I Feel Pretty.”

Some snip-its from reviewers follow:

David Rooney of Variety :”It’s rewarding to report that after nearly three decades’ absence from Broadway, this masterwork has been given the revival it deserves. Under the knowing direction of Arthur Laurents, the 1957 show remains both a brilliant evocation of its period and a timeless tragedy of disharmony and hate.”

Melissa Rose Bernardo of Entertainment Weekly calls it an “uneven but enjoyable revival”, saying “whenever Scaglione or Olivo (Tony and Maria) are on stage the show kicks into gear.”

Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune calls this a “mostly successful revival.” “It retains the heart, soul and original moves and sounds of a theatrical masterpiece…. And yet this new production also radically updates and rejuvenates the show’s social milieu.”

If you’re in New York and in the mood to see one of Broadway’s great and memorable shows, grab some broadway tickets and enjoy West Side Story.

Despite the tumbling profits of industries nation-wide, several sectors of the entertainment industry are managing to hang on and even thrive under the heavy recession that is causing some other sectors to balk and even fold.

One of these entertainment sectors is Broadway, where apparently New Yorkers are flocking in order to escape the daily grind and the troubles of the recession. Back in January, it was being reported that a record number of Broadway shows were closing due to the looming recession and producers were pulling the plug, rather than taking the chance of seeing red in ’09.

But that was then. This week it was reported that Broadway grosses are holding their own and some shows -notably the revival of “West Side Story” – are doing $1 million a week even in previews. However, the growth spurt seems to be mostly centered on non-musicals, as very few musicals in even in production – probably because of the high cost of producing them.

There are also a huge list of notable TV and film cross-over stars who are starring on Broadway – which could also be a huge reason for the growing numbers.

Whatever the reasons, Broadway is growing despite the recession, so if you are looking for an escape, grab some Broadway tickets and join the fun!

Freshly out of the “what the heck” files, we learned today that headlining the Broadway openings of 2010 will be “Spiderman”. It’s not going to be a low-budget production either… not at all. Rumors are persisting that a budget exceeding $30 Million will accompany the show when it debuts next winter.

A formal announcement was made yesterday that “Spiderman, Turn off the Dark” will officially open on Broadway on February 18, 2010 at the Hilton Theatre. As for casting, it looks like Evan Rachel Wood is a lock to play Mary Jane Watson, while the role of Spiderman is undecided at this point.

The title of the play seems to suggest the Venom may be a part of it as the black suited nemesis of our friendly neighborhood Spiderman. Much of the plot is still shrouded in mystery, but one thing is for sure, Broadway ticket holders will know in less than a year, what Spidey’s next adventure will be.

Much ado was made by Broadway fans when Kathleen Turner was chosen to star in this season’s comedy “The Third Story” at the Lucille Lortel theatre. The long-time television, film, and stage star is extremely well respected in Hollywood and in New York, and her re-appearance on Broadway was met with much excitement.

But many fans were sorely disappointed earlier in the week when Turner took a fall and injured her knee fairly severely. Three shows were cancelled this week while Turner was recovering and whispers began to spread that the show would be cancelled altogether. However, Turner announced on Friday that she would be returning this weekend with a leg brace and a cane after she was cleared by her doctors.

“Kathleen Turner personifies the attitude of the Broadway trooper,” said co-artistic director Bernard Telsey in a statement released today. “Against any odds, she must – and will – make her performance.”

Broadway ticket holders across the city rejoice!

With words and music by Bono & The Edge of U2, Spiderman is going to be an interesting Broadway musical. I for one am curious just how they’re going to set the story to music. I assume it will be the story of how Spiderman came to be when Peter Parker was bitten by a radio-active spider. No word on if the classic Spiderman Theme Song from the old cartoon will be used but personally I think it deserves a spot in the Broadway show! That song is a classic among casual and die-hard Spiderman fans!

Following the success of Disney shows which have come to Broadway, Spiderman the Musical is trying to appeal to families with younger children while also offering something for adults who might be interested in seeing a different take on something they’ll remember from their own childhood.

If you are interested in seeing Spiderman on Broadway, head on over to SelectATicket.com where you can purchase Broadway tickets online and while you are there, sign up for our Spiderman Broadway Tickets Alert.

Ohhh that Britney! The ‘former’ pop sensation who has since become more famous-for-being-famous (a la Paris Hilton) is back, and her path to a comeback may take her right down Broadway in NYC. According to recent reports, Britney Spears is heavily considering a spell on Broadway as she attempts to get her music career back on track.

Spears, whose sixth album is set to be released in December, has recently been seen in New York at Broadway shows, and reports say that she is researching in order to find the “perfect part” to make her stage debut.

Furthermore, many believe that she may be contemplating a move to New York City. A source told MSNBC however, “Britney always toys with the idea of going to New York. Obviously there’s no chance that is happening unless Kevin moves, too.”

Spears has always had the “itch” for acting, as she has made numerous television and film cameos, as well as starring in her own film in 2002, Crossroads. Additionally, she is no stranger to performing in front of crowds, though acting in Broadway and singing pop hits to teenagers, are certainly two very different things.

It remains to be seen whether Britney will make the move, to Broadway, but if she does, you can be sure that Broadway tickets for the event will be a hot, hot item.

Hairspray a popular Broadway musical based on the film of the same name by John Waters, is lowering the curtain on its hugely successful Broadway run in early 2009. Grab your Broadway tickets online now and see it before it leaves town!

For six years, Hairspray has been a Broadway staple, attracting thousands of fans, getting tremendously positive reviews, and even spawning a movie based on the play, based on the movie… makes sense, right? Well, six years may not seem long, and when compared to Rent, Cats, and Les Miserables it’s not. But there are so many active theaters on Broadway and many shows come and go with a run of only a year or two, so a six year, highly popular run is not a bad achievement at all.

During its run, Hairspray has not only been popular among fans, but actors have lined up to be a part of the show. From Lance Bass and Haylie Duff, to George “Norm” Wendt and Ashley Parker Angel, it has been one of the most consistently star-studded Broadway shows during its run.

Hairspray will close officially on January 19th, but it will leave behind a lasting legacy by virtue of its popularity, its stars, and the film that it produced that became so popular a few years ago. Though its leaving Broadway in January, I think it’s safe to say that we haven’t seen the last of Hairspray.

For those who thought that Katie Holmes’ television and film stardom wouldn’t translate well to the Broadway stage, think again. Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, starring Holmes is the biggest success this season according to the latest box office receipts from week one of the Fall Broadway season.

EOnline reports that the revival performance of Miller’s play, which is based on the true story of a woman who informed on her father for selling faulty parts to the U.S. Military during World War II, raked in $684,002.

Another highly touted play, Equus, starring Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe is also performing well, bringing in $597,346 during week one. Katie can’t take all the credit, perhaps, for the success of All My Sons, as the show also stars veteran actors in Tony Award winner, John Lithgow and Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest.

Nevertheless, as the star of the show, Katie Holmes is entitled to her due for being part of Broadway’s top draw so far this year. Grab some tickets today for All My Sons, Equus, or any other Broadway tickets online and be a part of the show yourself.

Earlier this month, Rent, one of Broadway’s most popular shows dropped the curtain forever. While the final show was extremely popular and an instant sell-out, there were undoubtedly many, many people who were unable to enjoy the finale.

This Wednesday through Sunday, anyone who wants to see the complete Broadway performance of Rent will be able to enjoy it in their hometown.

Don’t expect to pay “normal” movie ticket prices, however, as tickets for Rent: The Broadway Closing are more going to run more than the $8.50 that you might expect to pay for a movie. But remember, this isn’t a movie and if you were going to watch the Broadway show, you’d be dropping a minimum of $75 a ticket.
One of America’s most endearing characters is about to receive a change as Broadway’s “Mary Poppins” is about to introduce a new actor in its starring role as well as Bert, the Chimney Sweep. Scarlett Strallen, a veteran of London’s production of “Mary Poppins” will be assuming the title role of the show, while Tony Manero, an Aussie actor, most recently seen in “Saturday Night Fever” will join the Disney-Cameron Mackintosh musical beginning October 9.

“”I didn’t pause for half a second,” said Strallen about getting the offer. “I still can’t quite believe it’s happening,” she continued in a phone interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, “I’m walking down Times Square (right now) to the rehearsal room which is on 42nd Street near the theater, and thinking, ‘Wow, this is quite amazing.’”

It’s always fun to see Broadway shows revitalized by new, energetic actors that can bring something special to the role. Grab some Broadway tickets online for “Mary Poppins” and enjoy the show.
