The NHL’s Stadium Series comes to a close this weekend with two highly-anticipated matchups: the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks at Chicago’s Soldier Field on Saturday and the Heritage Classic featuring the Vancouver Canucks vs Ottawa Senators on Sunday, being held at BC Place in Vancouver, BC.
There will be no shortage of talent in these games as all 4 teams have some guys who can really light the lamp, as they say! Chicago’s got Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa and dman Duncan Keith while the Penguins boast Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, James Neal and Chris Kunitz. The Canucks of course have the brilliant Sedin twins, Daniel and Henrik, while Ottawa has a powerful combo in Jason Spezza and Bobby Ryan up front and supported by the highest scoring defenseman in the NHL, Erik Karlsson.
Both games promise to be amazing as the NHL has really stumbled onto something special with these outdoor games.
Detractors say they are doing too many outdoor games but when you look at the fan turnout and reaction, then see the smiles on their faces post-game, you know the NHL has something special here. Honestly, the NHL season has 1,230 total games, is it really a big deal if 6 of them happen to be held outside?!? These games sellout, that should tell you all you need to know – the fans can’t get enough outdoor NHL hockey!
