Chicago’s got Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa and dman Duncan Keith while the Penguins boast Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, James Neal and Chris Kunitz. The Canucks of course have the brilliant Sedin twins, Daniel and Henrik, while Ottawa has a powerful combo in Jason Spezza and Bobby Ryan up front and supported by the highest scoring defenseman in the NHL, Erik Karlsson.

Both games promise to be amazing as the NHL has really stumbled onto something special with these outdoor games.

Junior wins the DaytonaDespite an extended weather delay, the Daytona 500 was held Sunday and saw Dale Earnhardt Jr emerge victorious in the #88 car. Fans who stuck it out were rewarded with a thrilling race in the new-format NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

During the delay, FOX televised last year’s race to fill airtime and unwitting fans and even media outlets went to social media to report on the race as if it were the 2014 race! A bit amusing for those who paid attention to the newsticker at the bottom of their television screens that they were watching a replay of the previous year’s race.

The weather was so bad that fans had to evacuate the grandstand due to tornado warnings in the area but once the weather cleared, it was time to go racin’!

The Daytona 500 is an American staple and is more than just your average race. For many it marks the beginning of the NASCAR season of course but also the promise that Spring and fair weather are not very far away and a full season of summer races is coming up soon enough.

NASCAR fans all have the Daytona 500 on their “Bucket List” – if you want to finally attend the race, or go back again if you can’t get enough of the event, please visit SelectATicket.com and register for a free email alert when 2015 Daytona 500 tickets become available to order.

The top 5 events of the past week on SelectATicket.com were as follows:

  1. Super Bowl XLIX
  2. New York Yankees
  3. Hedwig and the Angry Inch
  4. OneRepublic
  5. WWE: Live

Super Bowl XLIX will be held February 1, 2015 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ. As you can see by it taking 1st place this week, fans are already making plans to be there for the Big Game. Returning to a warm weather climate, Super Bowl XLIX is expected to be a hot ticket all year long and ticket demand will pick up even more when the season gets underway this fall.

Speaking of Fall, that is when the last few games of the Major League Baseball season will be played and barring injury, also the final regular season games of Derek Jeter’s glorious career with the New York Yankees. Jeter has announced this will be his final season. Yankees tickets are popular enough on their own but with this announcement, they have been catapulted to number 2 on the top 5 list.

From off-Broadway to film, now finally to the big stage is “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” The cult-classic is coming to the Belasco Theatre in NYC – don’t miss it!

Rounding out the top 5 are OneRepublic (on tour with The Script) and WWE: Live which lists multiple performances at arenas throughout the country and all leading up to Wrestlemania XXX.

University of Phoenix StadiumFresh off the excitement of Super Bowl XLVIII comes word that tickets to Super Bowl XLIX are available now at SelectATicket.com.

Early bird catches the worm as they say and with the Super Bowl heading back to warm weather climate (doesn’t get much better than going to Arizona in February!), the current odds-on favorites are not very far away and the promise of yet another outstanding halftime performance – there are many reasons to believe prices will only escalate from their current point.

As it stands today, the Top 4 favorites to win Super Bowl XLIX are Seattle, San Francisco, Denver and New England.

Seattle, San Francisco and Denver are all relatively short flights to Glendale, AZ when compared to the cost and location of Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey. That means the fans of those teams, should they reach the Big Game, will have more money to allocate towards tickets vs travel.

The weather is not going to act as a deterrent. Many fans were concerned about the possibility of delayed or canceled flights if they were to come to Super Bowl XLVIII, and with good reason – the day after the Super Bowl the area was hit with a snow storm that stranded many travelers who were returning home.

That will not be a concern in Arizona where the average high temperature in February is 70 degrees!

The University of Phoenix Stadium will host the Super Bowl and will provide most fans with a much welcomed break from the weather in their hometowns, that much can almost be guaranteed given the weather across the country at that time of year.

Now is the ideal time to lock in on tickets and take advantage of these early pricing benefits. Be there on Sunday, February 1, 2015 for Super Bowl XLIX and experience one of the greatest sporting events on the planet!

NBA All StarsThe 2014 NBA All Star Game was held in New Orleans yesterday with the East making a successful come from behind charge to win the game 163-155. Kyrie Irving led all scorers with 31 points and took home the MVP award.

The East trailed by as many as 18 points but were able to put together a strong effort to pull out the thrilling victory. Three pointers, slam dunks, blind passes – this game had it all, as does every all star game when you get players of this skill together.

On Sunday the players head to Madison Square Garden for the 2015 NBA All Star Game.

NCAA FootballThe top 5 events of the week contain some surprises this time out – have a look!

  1. 2015 College Football National Championship Game
  2. Bruno Mars & Pharrell Williams
  3. 2014 NBA All Star Game
  4. Justin Timberlake
  5. Heritage Classic: Vancouver vs Ottawa

The National Championship Game for next NCAA football season tops the list, doubtful anybody saw that one coming! It just shows that fans are glad the BCS confusion is finally over and done with and they’re excited for the first year of the new playoff system to determine the national champions.

Coming off his sizzling Super Bowl halftime show is Bruno Mars who will be joined by various artists on his tour but the shows with Pharrell Williams have been particularly hot. Not a surprise, Pharrell can be heard on two of the hottest songs in the past year – Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” both feature the talented vocalist.

Not such a shock is the NBA All Star Game which is this coming weekend in New Orleans. Not just a great event, it is being held in a great city and would make a nice last minute getaway for basketball fans this weekend.

Never a disappointment, the multi-talented Justin Timberlake continues to be a strong ticket. A wonderful entertainer, he is one of those concert acts you need to experience once, and often when you do, you will keep going back again and again. He is THAT good!

Closing out the top 5 is the last of the NHL’s Stadium Series games this season, the 2014 Heritage Classic featuring the Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators. The only outdoor NHL game from the Stadium Series to be played in Canada this year, the Heritage Classic has become a tremendous tradition. It is more than just a regular season game, it is a celebration of the beginnings of hockey. Outdoor on the frozen surface!

Morgan ShepherdIn an attempt to become the oldest driver ever in the Daytona 500, 72 year old Morgan Shepherd hopes to qualify later this month for the February 23rd race.

Shepherd is already the oldest driver to compete in a NASCAR race. Last summer he raced at New Hampshire at the age of 71.

Mr. Shepherd has been in the Daytona 500 15 times over his career and finished as high as 2nd place back in the 1992 race.

The first Daytona 500 ever was held back in 1959. Since 1982, it has been the season-opening race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series.

Matt Kenseth has won two of the past 5 Daytona 500 races. The past five winners are:

  • 2013 – Jimmie Johnson
  • 2012 – Matt Kenseth
  • 2011 – Trevor Bayne
  • 2010 – Jamie McMurray
  • 2009 – Matt Kenseth

Among the top favorites will be Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Tony Stewart but due to the Daytona being one of the restrictor plate races on the circuit, the race is really anyone’s to win. Even 72 year old Morgan Shepherd may have a shot!

That just adds to the already high level of excitement at Daytona. Every race fan has their favorite driver and to be there among over 200,000 fans, each of them believing – rightfully so – that their driver has a shot to win PLUS it being the first race of the year after a long winter and in the beautiful Florida sun — the Daytona 500 is a major sporting event everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Tickets to the 2014 Daytona 500 and all NASCAR races are available at SelectATicket.com.

Fueled by her live performance at the Grammy’s, Katy Perry takes the number two spot for the week. Her tour is hot all over the country and she is one of the can’t-miss performers for pop music fans.

All the sports world has been focused on the Super Bowl lately but baseball fans know that spring training is just a few weeks away. Some fans are already making plans for the midsummer classic as the MLB Home Run Derby slides into the number 3 position on the list. The derby and All Star Game will be held at Target Field in Minneapolis this year.

News is spreading that Hulk Hogan will be involved in Wrestlemania XXX and just like that the event makes the top 5 list. Already a strong event as it draws fans from all over the world, Wrestlemania promises to be bigger and better than ever as it celebrates 30 years of wildly entertaining matches.
