As if there wasn’t enough drama surrounding Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez already, now he is in a verbal feud with team General Manager Brian Cashman.

This reminds some fans of the old days when owner George Steinbrenner would grab headlines while fighting with his own managers and players.

The trouble began when the injured Rodriguez tweeted that he’s been deemed fit to resume play.

In response, Cashman told ESPN New York that A-Rod “should keep his (expletive) mouth shut.” A rather harsh quote which leads one to believe there’s more underlying tension than perhaps any of us realize between the two sides.

A-Rod has been out of the lineup since last year’s playoffs and the Yankees have had difficulty scoring runs thus far this season. Whether he’s still got enough game to help them offensively is to be determined if and when he returns to the batting order.

ichiroIn more positive team news that real fans want to hear about, the Yankees were victorious last night as Ichiro hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure a 4-3 win and give the Yankees a record of 42-34 on the season.

The Yankees trail Boston by just 2.5 games in the AL East standings and look to inch closer tonight and tomorrow with two more games against the Rangers to closeout the homestand.

Tickets to these and all other Yankees games can be found online at SelectATicket.com.

The top 5 events at SelectATicket.com for the last week were as follows:

  1. 2014 NBA All Star Game
  2. NY Yankees
  3. Ian Anderson
  4. Matilda the Musical
  5. Winter Classic 2014

With the NBA finals just coming to an end, it drove up interest in next year’s all star game (which will be held in New Orleans).

The New York Yankees are just hitting their stride as summer is upon us and fans are beginning to head out to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx for some good old fashioned baseball. Remember this is Mariano Rivera’s final season so be sure to catch a game or two before this legend hangs ’em up for good.

Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull fame comes to the Beacon Theatre later this year and will be performing Thick As A Brick Pt I & II live in concert – fans of Jethro Tull won’t want to miss that!

As schools are letting out, fans are buying up Broadway tickets to children friendly shows and Matilda the Musical is tops on that list!

Just as the NBA Finals drove up NBA All Star interest, the NHL Stanley Cup Final is bringing attention to next year’s stadium series of outdoor hockey games and what will be the largest outdoor game in history – the Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium (aka “The Big House”)!

Check back next week to see what events top the list.

The 35th head coach in the history of the New York Rangers has been officially named and to no one’s surprise, it is Alain Vigneault.

In what seemed to be a race which came down to two candidates, former team captain and sentimental choice Mark Messier who has zero professional coaching experience, against Vigneault, a man with 9 years of NHL coaching in two major Canadian markets under his belt. The choice was obvious for a team with a “win now” composition.

The Rangers can ill afford to deal with a first time coach’s growing pains at this pivotal juncture in their history. There is a limited window for them with this current group of plays, most importantly star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. This team needs to win the Stanley Cup and they need to do so ASAP.

In Vigneault the team takes a different direction than previous coach John Tortorella. While “Torts” was a strong coach and a no-nonsense kind of guy, he was rigid to the point of inflexible in his ways. His refusal to open things up and allow the team to generate more offense eventually caused his downfall. A power play that was almost non-existent was a major flaw for the team and proved to be their downfall. With Lundqvist holding the team to within a goal or two of the opposition on a nightly basis, even a power play that converted at a 20% clip would have resulted in more wins both in the regular season and the playoffs, where goals are so hard to come by.

Vigneault’s teams also play a strong and responsible defensive style but where his teams differ is up front. He lets the stars be stars, as evidenced by the emergence of the Sedin twins during his time in Vancouver, they have lit up the league for years. Ironically, it was goalie problems that lost Vigneault and Vancouver their best shot at a Stanley Cup when Roberto Luongo imploded against Boston in the 2011 Finals.

Will he lead the Rangers to the promised land? Is he the right choice over Messier? Only time will tell but all signs point to this being a solid hockey decision instead of going with the one that is more glitzy, a good sign for Rangers fans who are all too familiar with the latter.

SelectATicket.com sells tickets to all New York Rangers games including the outdoor Stadium Series games against the Devils and Islanders at Yankee Stadium.

The Miami Heat are NBA Champions once again, this team defeating the San Antonio Spurs 95-88 in Game 7.

It appeared the Spurs had the title to themselves in Game 6 as they held a lead in the closing seconds. However a dramatic comeback capped by a clutch 3-pointer by Ray Allen saved Miami’s season and afforded them the chance to win Game 6 in overtime to force Game 7.

The Miami fans will remember this as a great victory while fans of the Spurs cannot help but feel bitter about how this turned out. To be so close to having won it all only to watch their team give it away must be heart breaking.

Several stars raised their play in the Finals and it should be noted that the best time and place to see the best of the best basketball players is at the annual NBA All Star Game.

The 2014 NBA All Star Weekend runs from February 14-16 in beautiful New Orleans, Louisiana.

From the Rising Stars Challenge to All Star Saturday Night’s Slam Dunk contest to the All Star Game itself, this event is almost as big as the NBA Finals in terms of attention and excitement and actually exceeds it in terms of star power. They all will be there! Will you? Find tickets today to all 3 events or just pick one and have a great time down south in New Orleans!

If Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals is any indication, this series is going to be one for the ages.

The Chicago Blackhawks came back from two goals down in the third period to tie the game and force overtime.

The Blackhawks and Boston Bruins then played nearly a full second game until Andrew Shaw scored with 12:08 left in the third overtime to preserve home ice advantage for Chicago.

The teams meet again tomorrow for Game 2 as the Blackhawks look to extend their home ice advantage and the Bruins seek to steal it away before the teams head to Boston for Games 3 & 4 next week.

Tickets to all games are available online and in high demand as these are two big sports towns and Original Six members of the National Hockey League, there are generations upon generations of fans on both sides!

In the first Stanley Cup Finals to feature two Original Six teams since 1979, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Boston Bruins tonight in Game 1 of what promises to be an exciting series.

Both teams have strong defense, explosive offense and timely goaltending which is what it is going to take to hoist the Stanley Cup.

The schedule for the series is as follows:
Game 1: Wednesday, June 12, at Chicago, 8 p.m.
Game 2: Saturday, June 15, at Chicago, 8 p.m.
Game 3: Monday, June 17, at Boston, 8 p.m.
Game 4: Wednesday, June 19, at Boston, 8 p.m.
Game 5: Saturday, June 22, at Chicago, 8 p.m. (If necessary)
Game 6: Monday, June 24, at Boston, 8 p.m. (If necessary)
Game 7: Wednesday, June 26, at Chicago, 8 p.m. (If necessary)

A Look at the Boston Bruins’ road to the Stanley Cup Finals:
The Bruins were nearly eliminated in Round 1 this year as the Toronto Maple Leafs held a 3 goal lead with 11 minutes left in game 7 of that series, but there is no quit in this Boston team – they stormed back with 3 goals, tying the game in the final minute on a Patrice Bergeron wrist shot, to force overtime where Bergeron stepped up again and banged home a rebound to advance to the next round. That’s where they met the New York Rangers and defeated them 4 games to 1. Each game was fairly close in the series but Boston outplayed New York from start to finish, only the goaltending of the Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist kept the games close. In the semifinals the Bruins met the powerhouse Pittsburgh Penguins, a team loaded with talented skilled players. Boston swept them in four games, limiting the Penguins to only 2 goals the entire series! A stunning domination. It seems the Bruins are at the top of their game and it comes at just the right time as they are in the finals.

Tomorrow we will take a look at the Chicago Blackhawks’ path to the finals and review Game 1!
