In a somewhat shocking move, the New York Rangers have fired head coach John Tortorella after four years at the helm.

Only a few short days after being eliminated from the playoffs by the Boston Bruins, Rangers General Manager Glen Sather decided the team needs a new direction.

In his time with the Rangers, Tortorella has managed to be the 4th all-time winningest coach in team history but his abrasive style with the media and inability to get the most out of his players has caught up to him.

Star forwards Rick Nash and Brad Richards were terrible in the playoffs and hold some of the blame but the coach is also responsible for putting them in situations to succeed. Richards was scratched entirely from the final two games, that certainly did not sit well in the locker room where Richards is well respected.

Early speculation on a replacement includes recently fired Vancouver coach Alain Vignault and former Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff. However, there are plenty of candidates out there and don’t be surprised to hear some former Rangers greats mentioned as fans would love to throw Mark Messier’s name into the mix.

Were they right or wrong to fire Tortorella?

Who do you want as the next coach?

Houston, Texas has won the bid for the 2017 Super Bowl, it was announced earlier this week.

In competition with Miami, Houston was chosen to be the home of Super Bowl LI (that’s 51 to those who are Roman numerally challenged, like me!)

This will mark Houston’s first Super Bowl since they hosted in 2004.

Reliant Stadium and its retractable roof is an attractive draw for the league. With unpredictable weather in Texas, it could be a warm and beautiful day or it could be cold and bitter like the recent Super Bowl in Dallas. Thanks to the retractable roof, they will be ready for anything.

If you want to go to the Super Bowl in Houston, it is recommended to sign up now to receive an alert from You’ll be among the first anxious fans to be notified when tickets orders may be placed and give yourself the best chance to see the big game!

Select games are on sale now for the 2014 NHL Stadium Series.

Fans may order tickets online at for the Winter Classic as well as the Stadium Series games at Yankee Stadium between the Devils and Rangers on January 26 and the Islanders and Rangers on January 29.

Also available soon will be options to order tickets to the Anaheim Ducks vs L.A. Kings at Dodger Stadium on January 25 and the Pittsburgh Penguins vs Chicago Blackhawks on March 1.

There is an option to register to receive an alert when tickets to the other games are on sale, if you are not looking for tickets to the Winter Classic or the two Yankee Stadium games.

With so many outdoor games some are criticizing the league saying they are diluting a good thing, but this gives teams like the Devils, Islanders and Ducks the chance to participate in one of these grand outdoor games when if the league only played one per year, those teams’ fans would almost never get a chance to see their team in an outdoor game.

As long as the league does this as a one time thing or very rarely and mixes up the locations, the Stadium Series is a great way to bring the outdoor game to fans who would not have a chance to see their team participate in a single event like the Winter Classic.

The first round of the NHL playoffs is complete and four of the Original Six teams are still alive and facing off in two separate series.

In the Western Conference, the Chicago Blackhawks will be taking on the Detroit Red Wings. The Blackhawks disposed of Minnesota in 5 games while the Red Wings upset the Anaheim Ducks in 7.

Also in the West will be a California-based series as the San Jose Sharks look to knockout the defending champion Los Angeles Kings.

The Eastern Conference will see a brewing rivalry take on new meaning as the Pittsburgh Penguins will go up against the Ottawa Senators, the lone Canadian team still in the playoffs. Earlier this season Penguins pest Matt Cooke injured Senators star defenseman Erik Karlsson on a questionable hit but Karlsson is back and the Sens can best get their revenge by winning this series and not chasing Cooke around the ice.

The other East series is also the other Original Six matchup as Boston and New York will compete to reach the Conference Finals.

The Bruins saved their season in dramatic fashion. Trailing Toronto 4-1 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third period of Game 7, the Bruins scored three times, including the game tying goal in the final minute to force overtime where they put the Leafs away, both goals being scored by Patrice Bergeron.

The Rangers also won a Game 7 to reach this series. Playing on the road in Washington, the Rangers took the play to the Caps and Henrik Lundqvist posted his second consecutive shutout as the Rangers won the game by a score of 5-0.

The series between the Bruins and Rangers is the first time they’ve met in the post-season since 1973.

Here is the schedule*:

Game 1 Thursday May 16 7:30PM @ Boston

Game 2 Thursday May 19 3:00PM @ Boston

Game 3 Thursday May 21 7:30PM @ New York

Game 4 Thursday May 23 7:00PM @ New York

Game 5 Thursday May 25 TBD @ Boston (if necessary)

Game 6 Thursday May 27 TBD @ New York (if necessary)

Game 7 Thursday May 29 TBD @ Boston (if necessary)

*Schedule is subject to change.

Now is the time to secure tickets to these Rangers playoff games as the excitement generated by their 7th game victory has fans pumped up for Round 2.

The Rihanna concert at Barclays Center originally scheduled for Saturday May 4 has been rescheduled to Tuesday May 7th to accomodate Game 7 between the Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls.

Tickets for the May 4 Rihanna performance will be honored on May 7.

This seems like a diss to Rihanna and her fans, what do you think?

Couldn’t the NBA have found another time to play this game? May 5th is open, May 6th is also open, according to the Barclays Center schedule of events on their website.

Even an afternoon game tomorrow and then switch the venue over to be ready for the concert at 8pm would have been acceptable, other building do it all the time. In Boston they had a Knicks vs Celtics game in the afternoon which went into overtime and still were able to switch over for hockey in order for the Bruins game that night.

Unfortunately we are all at their mercy as they decide when and where these events happen and they have the right to change it at any time.

We hope fans with Rihanna tickets will have a great time Tuesday and find something enjoyable to do tomorrow night as well!
