The New York Rangers ended their season Saturday with a convincing 4-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils. This marked their second victory in the closing days over their cross river rivals, having defeated them 4-1 the previous Sunday.

The win pushed the Rangers up to 6th place which means they face the 3rd seed in the Easter Conference, the Washington Capitals.

Under new head coach Adam Oates, the Capitals had a slow start to the season. There was much made of how poorly superstar Alex Ovechkin started the season but he put the doubters to rest and ended up with 32 goals in 48 games to lead the league.

His resurgence powered the Caps to the Southeast Division title.

The Rangers had struggles of their own but finished with a strong record down the stretch to move from the lower standings to 6th place. The team dynamic changed at the trade deadline as sniper Marian Gaborik was dealt to Columbus for Derrick Brassard, Derek Dorsett and John Moore. Dorsett is nursing an injury but the others, along with Ryane Clowe acquired in a separate deal with San Jose, and free agent returnee Mats Zuccarello have provided depth to the Rangers lineup that had been lacking all season.

The result is a first round matchup between two teams that are playing at the top of their games and should be a hotly contested series.

Games begin this Wednesday and tickets are available at SelectATicket.com.

The New York Knicks have taken a two games to none lead in their first round playoff series versus the rival Boston Celtics.

This is the first time in 13 years that the Knicks have won back to back games in the playoffs. The last time was against the Indiana Pacers back in the 2000 playoffs.

Winning by a score of 87-71, the Knicks and Celtics now head to Boston for Game 3 which will be played Friday, April 26.

Carmelo Anthony leads all players in the series with 70 points so far. If the Knicks are going to continue and advance beyond the first round, he will have to keep on scoring. This has been a tightly contested series thus far and the Celtics have held the Knicks to relatively low offensive numbers compared to what they’re used to putting up.

There is nothing like playoff action at Madison Square Garden, find New York Knicks tickets for upcoming playoff games at SelectATicket.com and join the excitement.

In addition to the January 1st Winter Classic, the NHL is reportedly going to add a series of outdoor hockey games next season.

Games are reportedly going to be played at Soldier Field in Chicago, two games at Yankee Stadium in New York and a game at Dodger Stadium. Not only that, it is believed the Heritage Classic will return and be held at BC Place in Vancouver.

TSN in Canada televised a proposed schedule last night, listing these games:

  • 1/1/14: Maple Leafs vs Red Wings at Michigan Stadium
  • 1/25/14: Ducks vs Kings at Dodger Stadium
  • 1/26/14: Devils vs Rangers at Yankee Stadium
  • 1/29/14: Islanders vs Rangers at Yankee Stadium
  • 3/1/14: Penguins vs Blackhawks at Soldier Field
  • 3/2/14: Heritage Classic – Senators vs Canucks at BC Place

Nothing like this has been done before. At most the NHL has held two outdoor games in a single season.

Should this be successful, the idea is to continue to have a big Winter Classic for a national audience and then reward several other markets with outdoor games of their own.

The NHL is holding a press conference at Joe Louis Arena tomorrow for what is expected to be a formal announcement of what fans already know, the 2014 NHL Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs.

This game was originally set to be the 2013 Winter Classic but the lockout put an end to that. Not wanting to disappoint the fans any further, the game will go on January 1, 2014 in Ann Arbor.

It is expected to draw the largest crowd in NHL history with approximately 110,000 fans from both sides looking to attend.

With that much demand, it is no shock that tickets are going to be difficult to come by. This will also be the first Winter Classic which involves a team from Canada and the Toronto Maple Leafs have a fan base that stretches far and wide, as do the Red Wings. So it is likely that there will be fans from all over the globe coming to experience this potentially record-setting event.

Fans can order tickets from SelectATicket.com for the 2014 Winter Classic as well as all other NHL hockey games.

This game will be one for the ages, be a part of history and contribute to a world record by attending the Winter Classic between Detroit and Toronto!

In a mildly surprising move, the New York Rangers traded goal scorer Marian Gaborik to the Columbus Blue Jackets yesterday for forwards Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett and mobile young defenseman John Moore.

Stuck at the bottom of the league in goal scoring, it may seem odd to trade away a forward who has scored more than 30 goals seven times over his career but the Rangers added both depth and freed up cap space with this deal. Brassard offers the team another center, Dorsett (currently injured) will provide added grit and toughness which has been lacking from the Rangers’ lineup this year and Moore is another smooth skating defenseman for the Rangers’ growing crop of mobile blueliners.

Along with a deal the previous day which saw the Rangers add rugged Ryane Clowe from the San Jose Sharks, the complexion of the team has changed.

Judging by the results of their first game in Blueshirts, that change was for the better as the Rangers thumped the Penguins 6-1 last night at Madison Square Garden.

The loss of Gaborik is significant but the added grit and depth will allow the Rangers to play their hard-working style again which they’ve strayed from a bit this season. The hope being that they will continue to climb the Eastern Conference standings, secure a playoff berth and take a shot at the Stanley Cup.

Find tickets to all upcoming NY Rangers games at Madison Square Garden.

There is an announcement of some kind coming from The Rolling Stones tomorrow and fans can’t help but hope it is a 2013 world tour!

After playing shows in late 2012 to celebrate their 50 years of rock n roll, The Rolling Stones showed they’ve still got the goods and can rock with the best of them.

A final world tour by The Rolling Stones would be perhaps the biggest tour in the history of music, your last chance to see the greatest rock n roll band of all time!

Fans who want to be notified before anyone else when tickets become available are encouraged to register at SelectATicket.com to receive an alert when 2013 Rolling Stones tickets become available.

The New York Yankees lost 8-2 to the Boston Red Sox in the 2013 home opener at Yankee Stadium. Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia just didn’t have his best stuff for the Yankees and they fell behind early. A four run second inning would prove to be all Boston needed.

Meanwhile across town at Citi Field, the New York Mets took the first step in distancing themselves from last season’s poor record with an 11-2 thrashing of the San Diego Padres. Collin Cowgill won the Mets center field job in spring training and is batting leadoff, he rewarded that decision with his first career grand slam in the 7th inning.

The Yankees and Red Sox get at it again Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium as the Bronx Bombers look avenge yesterday’s loss.

The Mets and Padres also continue play on Wednesday at Citi Field.

The return of baseball this season is made more special for area baseball fans as this year Citi Field will host the MLB All Star Game and related activities including the Home Run Derby.

Tickets for Yankees, Mets and All Star Game events are available now at SelectATicket.com.
