As hockey fans know, the NHL Winter Classic was canceled due to the lockout earlier this season. What you may not know is that in addition to the rescheduled Winter Classic (Detroit and Toronto will faceoff in Ann Arbor in 2014), the NHL reportedly is also planning on holding a number of outdoor games next season. The least of which not being the return of the Heritage Classic.

Started in 2003 when Montreal and Edmonton met outside, the NHL Heritage Classic is an outdoor game played Canada and, so far, has featured Canadian-based NHL teams only. The second Heritage Classic saw Calgary and Montreal play to a 4-0 Flames victory at McMahon Stadium in 2011.

Now it appears the Heritage Classic, Winter Classic as well as other outdoor games will be the featured events for the NHL in 2014.

Some of the venues bandied about are Yankee Stadium, Dodger Stadium and all cities in Canada… how about that?!

If you wish to attend the 2014 Winter Classic, tickets are available for order now.

The Thin White Duke, Aladdin Sane, Ziggy Stardust or just plain David Bowie — he is one of the most prolific and successful rock acts of all-time. Having recently surprised just about the whole world with an unannounced single release, David Bowie will be following that up with a brand new album in the very near future and to top it all off, there are rumors that chances of a David Bowie tour stands at “50/50”, according to his guitarist.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Gerry Leonard says odds of a tour are 50/50!

That’s great news for fans who have not been able to see Bowie perform live since 2004. After suffering health problems on that tour, there’s been fear we have seen the last of him in terms of major tours but there is renewed optimism among his dedicated fan base that he will return to touring as early as 2013/2014.

David Bowie is a rock and roll chameleon of sorts, with so many different styles and personas he’s adopted over the years, you really could see almost anything at a concert of his. He has such a vast collection of music to call upon that you are certain not to be disappointed should David Bowie choose to tour again.

Tickets will be in high demand if he goes on tour, register now to receive an email alert when David Bowie tickets are available at SelectATicket.com.

Following the recent buzz surrounding legendary frontman Robert Plant’s claim that he’s got nothing to do in 2014 and he’s not ruling out a Led Zeppelin reunion, fans are flocking to the internet hoping to find more clues that there will be a 2014 Led Zeppelin tour.

With founding members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones still alive and well, and active, it is assumed the drums would be taken over by deceased drummer John Bonham’s son, Jason should a tour ever be announced.

With recent live performances by the Rolling Stones and The Who, there’s proof that there is a strong base for Led Zeppelin to perform in front of — not that there was any doubt about that. They are one of the most influential bands in rock and their universally loved music spans generations of fans.

Those several generations of fans is another reason Led Zeppelin tickets will be hard to come by should they tour. Unlike some current bands, you’re going to have years and years of fans who will be looking to buy tickets. Competition will be fierce and as they say, ‘the early bird catches the worm’, that is why it is recommended to register at SelectATicket.com to receive a free email alert when 2014 Led Zeppelin tickets become available (assuming they tour).

There is no obligation to purchase tickets but you will get first crack at ordering them through SelectATicket.com and that alone could put you ahead of the pack in the race to see Led Zeppelin live!

Today’s Toronto Star has reaffirmed what was mentioned by the NHL’s Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly during the lockout and repeated by Red Wings GM Ken Holland earlier this season — the January 2014 Winter Classic will feature the Detroit Red Wings vs Toronto Maple Leafs at ginormous Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, MI!

The Star reports things are hush-hush at the moment but to expect an official announcement in early spring as the NHL and Michigan University are currently in negotiations to finalize the massive project. After last year’s cancellation, there may be some issues within the first agreement which the two sides wish to revisit.

With the big game at the Big House, this is expected to draw at least 110,000 fans to the game. The Big Chill, a 2010 NCAA game between Michigan and Michigan State had an announced crowd of 113,411 and over 104,000 of those were certified.

The NHL is looking to do the Winter Classic in a big way year after year and following the bitter taste the lockout has left fans with, this is a great way to get back to what really matters and that is the love of the game. The Winter Classic is a unique and great tradition the NHL has started, it separates it from the other pro sports leagues as there’s nothing they could do to match this event. It is their moment to shine and with possibly 110,000 fans or even more in attendance, you can bet this is going to be one of the most talked about hockey games of all time in the years ahead.

Fans who wish to attend the 2014 Winter Classic may place their order at SelectATicket.com.

Entering the lockout-shortened season as one of the early favorites for the Stanley Cup this season, the New York Rangers had a lot of pressure on them to perform well right out of the gate. In short, they did not.

Off-season acquisitions take time to acclimate to their new environment. New players Rick Nash, Arron Asham, Taylor Pyatt, and Jeff Halpern all jumped into the lineup without even having a full pre-season to get used to new linemates as well as new team strategies and systems.

Now at the 1/4 mark (12 games played into the 48 game season), things are beginning to turn around for the Rangers in most aspects of the game while other areas still need some work (can you say “Power Play”?).

While not lighting the lamp, only 3 goals in 12 games, Nash has been a force with the puck and has shown a surprising ability as a setup man, having collected 7 assists. His 10 points leads the team and he has yet to get hot on the goal-scoring end, one would assume he’s going to start finding the net and the Rangers will really see what they’ve got in their latest superstar.

Halpern and Asham had a rough start but since the trade of Mike Rupp and addition of Darroll Powe alongside them on the fourth line, they have shown more jump in their game and have had several strong forechecking shifts. As a result, head coach John Tortorella has been able to rely upon his fourth line more and more in recent games and given them more ice time. This has a chain reaction throughout the lineup and means the top lines will be more rested come the post-season which can only help the Rangers, a team which was visibly fatigued by the end of last year’s playoff run.

Of the new players, Pyatt got off to the best start with 3 goals in the early going having earned him a spot in the top 6 forwards and some time on the power play too but he has cooled off since then. Which may be more of a sign that the other Rangers forwards are catching up to him rather than his play trailing off.

Recently recalled youngster J.T. Miller and fellow rookie Chris Kreider have paired with captain Ryan Callahan to form a fast skating, hard hitting line that can take care of their own end as well as forecheck aggressively and put some pucks in the net, too.

The Rangers have won three straight and have moved into sole possession of the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With 3/4’s of the season remaining, there’s little doubt they will continue to climb the standings now that their new parts are fitting in.

The Rangers take on the crosstown rival New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night, tickets are still available.

In response to the team’s inability to reach the playoffs this year and declining production from formerly dependable performers, the New York Giants have cut running back Ahmad Bradshaw and defensive tackle Chris Canty from the team.

Hampered on and off by foot injuries, Bradshaw’s production dropped and the emergence of David Wilson as an explosive running back combined to make Bradshaw expendable.

Canty was also the victim of injuries and poor play as he missed four games following knee surgery to start the season, then missed the season ending game also due to knee injury.

Also released this week was linebacker Michael Boley.

The Giants are sending a message that they are not happy with how the team played last year and changes are in store. More moves are certain to happen before the team opens camp this summer.

Be there at MetLife Stadium this season to see the new look New York Giants.

The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils meet tonight for the first time since the Devils sent the Rangers home with a dramatic overtime victory in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals last season.

The Blueshirts will be looking for revenge and the Devils will be looking to prove it was no fluke when the two bitter rivals face off at Prudential Center starting at 7pm tonight.

While the lineups have changed a little bit, the jerseys remain the same and these teams just flat out do not like each other.

During the off season the Devils lost Zach Parise and the Rangers added Rick Nash, giving both teams a new look.

New Jersey started the season strong and so far have only lost one game in regulation. The Rangers struggled out of the gate with their new lineup but played their best game of the season in their last outing versus Tampa Bay.

In this rivalry, it never really matters where the teams are in the standings, the games are always intense and anybody can win.

With the Rangers just yesterday dealing away Mike Rupp and recalling tough guy Brandon Mashinter from their farm team, expect Mashinter to try making a name for himself early. His first game as a Ranger, his first game against a rival – you can expect he will be anxious to show what he can do with the gloves off.

More important is what the teams do with the gloves on. The Rangers have Lundqvist, Richards, Gaborik and Nash; the Devils have Brodeur, Henrique, Elias and Kovalchuk — these players know how to rise to the occasion for these big games and this one promises to be a good one!

Given the structure of the lockout shortened season, every game has playoff implications as only the top 8 teams from the conference will reach the playoffs. This season teams are only playing games within their conference so every point in the standings is very valuable.

Don’t miss tonight’s game but if you can’t make it, maybe tickets to a NJ Devils game later in the season will fit your schedule.
