Following last night’s thrilling 2-1 Shootout victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, the New Jersey Devils now stand a 99.96% chance of reaching the Stanley Cup Playoffs, according to SportsClubStats.com.

There’s have to be a perfect storm of failure and exteme luck for other teams in order for the Devils to miss the playoffs this season so New Jersey hockey fans are ready for playoff action.

Additionally, it appears very likely the Devils will place 6th in the Eastern Conference and face the predicted #3 seed Florida Panthers.

Each team, as well as the rest of the league, still has games remaining so there are sure to be shifts in the standings but as of right now there is an 80% chance of Devils vs Panthers in Round 1.

Across the river, the rival New York Rangers sit in first place following last night’s victory in Minnesota combined with the Penguins loss to the Islanders. The Rangers have 103 points to Pittsburgh’s 100, each with 6 games remaining including a head-to-head match in Pittsburgh on April 5th which could be the difference in finishing 1st or 4th in the Eastern Conference. Keep an eye open for that showdown, Rangers fans!

Given the current standings, it appears the Rangers are unlikely to finish below fourth, so they will have home ice advantage to start the playoffs for the first time since 1996.

Having already secured a playoff berth, the Rangers now are fighting for position in the standings and to get their game in order.

Of the possible matchups for the New York Rangers, the Buffalo Sabres have the highest probability of being their first round opponent with a 45% chance.

All of this stands to change on a daily basis from now until the end of the NHL regular season on April 7, but what will not change is you can now order Devils playoff tickets and Rangers Playoff tickets at SelectATicket.com and see each team fight to advance in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Possibly even to a head-to-head matchup down the road!

Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain suffered a nasty injury last week in a freak accident. While playing on a trampoline with his son, Chamberlain broke his ankle so severely that the bone protruded through his skin and he was bleeding profusely from the wound, according to reports.

While it is not known how long the pitcher will be sidelined, do not be surprised if he misses this entire season. There is even speculation that the injury could end his career but any talk of that is premature until he begins to heal. In fact, NY Yankees manager Joe Girardi has gone so far as to say that he believes Chamberlain will pitch again this season. Chamberlain himself is targeting a July return.

All of this is speculation at this point and it is best to wait and see how Chamberlain’s ankle heals before taking any guesses as to when or if he will return.

One thing is for sure, the Yankees will miss having him in the lineup once again, as he missed most of 2011 following Tommy John surgery.

Chamberlain had surgery on the ankle and will be in a cast for 6 weeks before he starts to rehabilitate the ankle.

One silver lining to this mess is it allows his elbow even more time to recover from the Tommy John surgery.

In any event, fans are wishing Chamberlain a speedy recovery and a healthy return to New York Yankees baseball in his future.

While it is understandable the New York Jets are not happy with how Mark Sanchez performed this past season, it is also key to note that in his first two seasons Sanchez led the team to the AFC Championship Game. That’s not exactly underperforming for a young QB.

With any players, and particularly with quarterbacks, you have to live through their growing pains. The question is, was 2011 a growing pain season for Sanchez or was it a sign of things to come?

It is totally understandable for the NY Jets to have pursued Peyton Manning once he became available. He is possibly the greatest quarterback of all time and have both Manning brothers leading both New York teams would be an unprecedented event on the PR side of things, and don’t for a second think that doesn’t get considered with every transaction.

When they struck out on Peyton Manning, the Jets hurriedly signed Sanchez to an extension and proclaimed him as their guy, the number one QB.

Which brings us to Tim Tebow. Not long after signing Sanchez, the Jets sent two draft picks to Denver to acquire Tebow. He is also a young quarterback, there’s certainly questions about his ability to be a 4 down quarterback but what cannot be questioned is his heart and his running ability. He may be the best runner on the Jets right now, which perhaps says more about their running game than it does about him.

Either way, Mark Sanchez has to be feeling the heat. And that may be a good thing, from pressure comes diamonds but he could also crumble and leave the Jets with two unproven quarterbacks in 2012.

The Jets still insist Sanchez is the starting quarterback but all off-season they’ve done nothing but show a lack of confidence in him and the timing of his contract extension made it seem like a fallback after striking out on their true goal of getting Manning.

Acquring Tebow to be the backup is a risky move, Tebow brings a lot more media attention off the field than anything he brings on the field. He offers them a great option in the Wildcat offense, but won’t it be pretty obvious to opposing defenses what they’re doing when Sanchez leaves and Tebow comes in?

In any event, it is going to be an interesting season for New York Jets ticket holders, this could work out perfectly and confuse opponents all year long or it could blow up in their faces and they’re left with 2 quarterbacks who can’t get the job done.

What do you think will happen? Was signing Tebow good or bad for the Jets?

CBSSports.com reports that the New York Yankees have signed pitcher Andy Pettitte to a one-year, minor-league contract worth $2.5 million.

Pettitte, age 39, played 16 seasons in the majors before retiring last February. Now he’s ready to take another stab at it and will be starting out in the minors with the hopes of recapturing that old magic and once again putting on the famed pinstripes.

Pettitte was in Tampa as a special guest instructor for the Yankees when he realized he still had the bug to pitch:

“You start training, working out and getting yourself into shape, I’d imagine you could,” Pettitte said when asked if he could still pitch. “I retired, I felt, after one of my better years. I felt like I was at the point where I just kind of knew what I was doing out there mechanically on the mound, but I retired to be with my family.”

Whether Pettitte can regain his form and be effective enough to pitch at the major league level remains to be seen but he is not far removed from the 2010 season when Pettitte was 11-3 with a 3.28 ERA. That was Pettitte’s final year with the Yankees.

New York Yankees tickets are available now, including the home opener. While not expected to be ready by that time, could you imagine the excitement surrounding a future game should Pettitte be on the mound at Yankee Stadium?

The New York Rangers sit atop the NHL’s Eastern Conference with 93 points, just 4 points ahead of Pittsburgh. The two teams meet up Thursday at Madison Square Garden in what promises to be a heated affair and is also rumored to see the return of Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby.

Out with concussion symptoms for most of the season, Crosby has 12 points in 8 games played this season and a return to the lineup could likely mean enough of a jolt to get his Penguins into the top Eastern Conference seed before too long.

The Rangers once held a commanding lead but a recent string of 3 consecutive losses in regulation meant they allows precious points to slip out of their grasp and permitted other teams back in the race. That doesn’t mean all is lost for the Blueshirts, looking at the big picture they are far exceeding expectations and afterall are still first in the East at this late stage in the season and with games in hand on most teams trailing them.

Tonight there will be another hot matchup in the east as the resurgent New Jersey Devils travel to the unfriendly confines of the Wells Fargo Center to take on the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Devils and Flyers are neck and neck in the playoff race and could possibly meet up in what would be a brutal first round matchup for both teams. Currently seeded 5th (Flyers) and 6th (NJ) but tied in points at 85, the 4th and 5th teams meet in round 1. A little shufflilng of the standings and it could be Devils vs Flyers.

If the season were to end today the 5th place team would face Pittsburgh and the 6th place team would draw Florida, the Southeast Division leaders. The Rangers would take on the 8th place Washington Capitals.

But all of this stands to change tonight and just about every night through the end of the season as the NHL playoff races are getting hot and heavy.

Find New Jersey Devils tickets today and see them fight for the best playoff position they can attain.

Isn’t it amazing what a Super Bowl Championship can do for a strained relationship between player and team?

One year ago at this time, Giants star defensive end Osi Umenyiora was unhappy with the final two years of the contract he signed years ago and wanted to either be traded from the Giants or have the deal renegotiated. The Giants held firm, Umenyiora injured his knee but returned to the lineup in time to contribute to an unlikely Super Bowl victory.

Slated to earn $3.975 million this coming season, Umenyiora is now reportedly open to talking about an extension to remain a New York Giant, the only NFL team he has ever played for.

Giants General Manager Jerry Reese has said the team is open to talks as well and keeping Umenyiora on the team.

“I think he loves the Giants,” Reese said. “He loves to play football. He’s been with us his entire career, and I think he’d like to retire a Giant. I can’t speak for him, but just guessing, I think that’s what his feelings are.”

Both sides have said the previous contract problems are a thing of the past and were overblown by the media. While it certainly would not be the first time that happened, where were all these claims back when it was happening?

The 2011 New York Giants are the only NFL team to go 9-7 in the regular season and go on to win the Super Bowl. Everyone from team management down to the practice squad players are feeling good so for the franchise, now is a great time to talk contract with players while they are happy. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with Umenyiora as well as the Giants players with contracts that have expired.

Be there when the champs take the field next season, when the season rolls around you can order New York Giants tickets for any game and parking passes too.
