Two rivals will meet for the first game after the All-Star break when the New Jersey Devils host the New York Rangers tonight at the Prudential Center. Tonight’s matchup is the second of six meetings this season. The rivals will meet five times in the next six weeks.

With 66 points, the Rangers head into tonight just one point behind Detroit for the most in the NHL. They have a three point lead over the Philadelphia Flyers for the lead in the Atlantic Division.

The Devils are currently locked in a three-way tie with the Florida Panthers and the Toronto Maple Leafs for the final two playoff spots in the East. They have also lost their last three games. The Devils also lost their first bout with the Rangers this season, 4-1, at the Prudential Center on Dec. 20

Marian Gaborik is returning from the All-Star game on a hot streak after being named MVP and scoring a hat trick, the 16th in All-Star Game history. Two of the three goals were against Rangers’ goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.

“I was just fortunate to be lucky against him,” Gaborik said. “I think he’s one of the best, if not the best, goalie in the league, but I am glad I could get a couple of goals against him.”

Gaborik is the fifth Ranger to claim All-Star MVP honors. He is also leading the New York Rangers with 25 goals.

The Top 5 Events on SelectATicket.com last week were as follows:

  1. Super Bowl Tickets
  2. New York Yankees Tickets
  3. Bruce Springsteen Tickets
  4. MLB All Star Game Tickets
  5. Big East Tournament Tickets

One surprise at first glance is seeing New York Yankees tickets making the list but with news of Jorge Posada retiring this past week and spring training about to get started, it really isn’t hard to imagine how fans would have baseball on their mind and the season is really not that far off.

Bruce Springsteen’s first tour in two years with the E Street Band has also made the list as tickets for those shows are very popular.

And of course the number one event is Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots, coming up this Sunday but there’s still time to buy tickets.

Check back next week for the list of top 5 events for the current week.

In what could be considered a gross underestimation of just how passionate his fans are, Bruce Springsteen tickets went on sale earlier today and overwhelmed the servers at Ticketmaster.

Having 5 New Jersey and New York shows going on sale within an hour of each other, Ticketmaster was not up to the task nor prepared for the inundation of traffic as they were unable to grant the overwhelming number of requests from fans.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will play April 3 & 4 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford (Meadowlands Arena), April 6 and 9 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden and May 2 at Newark’s Prudential Center.

Springsteen routinely sells out most concerts and New Jersey and New York are especially among the first to sell out. As everyone knows, Springsteen is from New Jersey and his fanbase runs deep.

This tour marks the first shows since the passing of fan favorite, saxophonist Clarence Clemmons of the E Street Band. Fans are anxious to see “The Boss” and the remaining band members and today’s strong demonstration by the fans really shows just how badly everyone misses seeing Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band live in concert.

The server glitches were apparently resolved but that does not take away the frustration and disappointment experienced by the early bird fans who were ready and waiting in an attempt to get the jump on these high demand tickets.

For those who were not lucky enough to get through for tickets this morning there is still hope. There are alternate outlets for most events and die-hard fans can find Bruce Springsteen tickets on sale now for most dates in New York, New Jersey and around the country.

New York Rangers rookie winger Carl Hagelin was made a late addition to the NHL Young Stars game as a replacement for injured Devils center Adam Henrique who’s nursing a sore groin. The Young Stars game is part of the NHL All Star Game weekend and features the top rookies in the NHL who are hopeful of becoming future NHL All Stars.

Hagelin has been a pleasant surprise for the Blueshirts this season as he was a callup in November. His speed and determined puck pursuit game fits the Rangers’ style to a T and his dogged back-checking allows coach John Tortarella to utilize Hagelin in a variety of situations knowing he is defensively responsible, often a rarity in rookies.

Being played on a variety of different lines and in a lot of different situations, Hagelin has recorded 16 points (on a very balanced eight goals and eight assists) to go along with a gaudy plus-13 rating in only 29 games.

The New York Rangers are having their best season in years and the strong, dependable play of young Hagelin is just one component of their success in the first half. Also joining Hagelin in Ottawa for the All Star festivites are rock solid defenseman Dan Girardi, all-world goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and the team’s top goal scorer, sniper Marian Gaborik. To top the list, head coach John Tortarella will be coaching the All Stars.

The NHL All Star Game is taking place this Sunday, January 29 at the Corel Center in Kanata, Ontario. You can still find NHL All Star Game tickets online.

With a nail-biting 23-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, the New England Patriots became the first team to advance on to Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis, Indiana and the New York Giants needed overtime to defeat the San Francisco 49ers to move on to the Super Bowl.

In a hard fought AFC Championship Game, New England was able to hang on and dodge a few bullets including a broken up but very catchable pass in the end zone and a missed “chippy” field goal by usually reliable Baltimore placekicker Billy Cundiff. Cundiff missed a 32 yard field goal attempt in the waning moments which would have pushed the game to overtime. A heartbreaking loss for the visitors was an euphoric triumph for Tom Brady and the Patriots who are looking to add more hardware to their collection.

Making a repeat of Super Bowl 42, the New York Giants won the NFC Championship in the late game on Sundayl. The Giants caused a turnover on a punt return which led to the game winning overtime field goal by Lawrence Tynes, the second time Tynes has kicked an OT field goal to lead the Giants to the Super Bowl as he did the same in 2008 versus Green Bay.

The Super Bowl is scheduled for February 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium and you can order Super Bowl tickets now to see these two great franchises battle it out a second time for the NFL Championship.

After beating the Green Bay Packers, 37-20 the New York Giants are headed to San Francisco next Sunday to play for the NFC championship. The Giants are one game away from a second Super Bowl appearance in the past four years.

When the Giants met the San Francisco 49ers in November, during regular season play, they lost 27-20. This was the first of four consecutive losses for the Giants. The Giants are looking at this match-up with the 49ers as a chance to avenge this loss.

“I’m going to go ahead and answer this for you: Do we feel we’re gonna win in San Fran?’’ Tuck said. “Yes, we feel like we’re gonna win in San Fran. Am I guaranteeing a win? No, I’m not.’’

As this will be the 13th conference championship game for the 49ers, the third most of any team, they are going in with quite a bit of experience. This is the fifth conference championship for the New York Giants, who are heading into this game with a 4-0 record for this round.

Both starting quarterbacks were number 1 picks in the NFL draft. Manning was the No. 1 pick in 2004, and Smith was the No. 1 pick in 2005. This will be only the second time in history that two No. 1 overall picks have faced each other in a conference championship.

The winner of this game will play the winner of the AFC Championship in the Super Bowl. The AFC Championship will feature the Baltimore Ravens vs New England Patriots.

Find Super Bowl tickets now and see which team will be crowned world champions this year.

Ending the season a disappointing 8-8 following two consecutive trips to the AFC Championship Game, the New York Jets have parted ways with Offensive Coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, Line coach Bill Callahan and Wide Receivers coach Henry Ellard.

Replacing Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator will be recently ousted Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano. Replacements for Callahan and Ellard are expected to be forthcoming in the off season.

The offensive struggles of the Jets this season have been blamed on Schottenheimer and quarterback Mark Sanchez. Sanchez has now been in the league for three years and has not shown any improvement nor ability to lead the team despite head coach Rex Ryan’s insistence that Sanchez is a leader even to the point of having made him a captain of the team.

There have been published reports from unnamed players who are putting Sanchez down and claiming they want the Jets to pursue Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning should he become available via trade.

This is not the tight-knit team that Ryan wants in place as cowardly anonymous quotes in the New York tabloids are certainly not signs of a close team. Players like that need to be weeded out as Derrick Mason was earlier this season when reports came out he was displeased with Schottenheimer’s offense.

The Jets had two good seasons in a row and had a setback this year. Are they that far from where they were last year or was this just a brief stutter-step before regaining their position among the AFC elite?

The 2012 New York Jets season is going to be very telling in providing fans with that answer. Additional coaches will be brought in, there will be a new offense for Sanchez to learn, or will they really pursue the aging, injured Peyton Manning? Is Sanchez too young to give up on or not good enough to wait for? Big decisions need to be made to get Gang Green back on track.

It is going to be a thrilling season with lots of added drama as head coach Rex Ryan may be the next one on the chopping block if things don’t turnaround quickly for the Jets. Be there to see them bounce back from a down year, when next season comes around don’t forget that you can find New York Jets tickets at SelectATicket.com.

Ghost the Musical is set to materialize on Broadway this spring. April 23, 2012 will mark the official opening for the musical at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The musical is currently running at London’s Piccadilly Theatre. Original London cast members Richard Fleeshman and Caissie Levy will re-create their roles as Sam and Molly in the Broadway production of Ghost The Musical.

Ghost is the story of a young couple, Sam and Molly. While walking to their New York apartment one night they get mugged and Sam is murdered. Sam becomes trapped in this world as a Ghost and finds out that Molly is in danger. With the help of Oda Mae Brown, a storefront psychic, Sam attempts to communicate with Molly in the hope of saving her.

The musical is directed by Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus (God of Carnage). Joel Rubin, an Oscar-winning screenwriter, adapted his original screenplay for the musical, which has music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard. Joel Rubin also contributed to the lyrics. The score includes the Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody,” which was the love theme of the movie.

The original film starred the late Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. Whoopi Goldberg earned the Academy Award for her portrayal of psychic Oda Mae Brown. “Ghost” also earned the Oscar for Best Screenplay.

The Giants secured a playoff spot in front of a crowd of 81,077 at MetLife Stadium with a 31-14 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. Eli Manning threw three touchdown passes, including a 74-yarder to Victor Cruz.

Manning completed 24 of 33 passes for 346 yards with no interceptions. He was able to end his mostly inconsistent season on a high note. Manning finished the season with 4,933 yards passing with 29 TDs against 16 interceptions.

Cruz, set a single-season record for yards receiving, finished with 178 yards and six catches, an average of 29.7 yards.

The Dallas Cowboys lost four of their final five games. New York won three of its final four games and the loss left the Cowboys (8-8) out of the playoffs for the second straight year.

With a 9-7 record, the NFC East champions will face the wild-card Falcons (10-6) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at MetLife Stadium. Based on their performances against the Jets and the Cowboys, it appears the Giants just might have a good playoff run.

“I think we’re in the perfect position,’’ linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka said. “We didn’t get here the way that we wanted to, but regardless of what has happened during the season we’re in the playoffs, we won our division and we have a chance at the Super Bowl. Once you’re in, the slate’s wiped clean and this team is ready to play.’’

The New York Rangers squeezed out a victory in the 2012 Winter Classic yesterday. The Philadelphia Flyers stormed out of the gates in the first period, controlling play and getting the better scoring chances but Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist managed to keep his team in the game despite being outshot 12-9 and the first period ended with the game still scoreless.

2012 NHL Winter ClassicThe second period was even more Flyers offense as they outshot the Rangers 14-8. Philadelphia broke the scoreless tie at 12:26 of the 2nd period when Brayden Schenn picked a memorable time to get the first goal of his NHL career on a rebound of a Matt Carle wristshot from the left point.

Not even two minutes later at 14:21, Flyers superstar center Claude Giroux took a great pass from Max Talbot on an odd man rush and roofed a backhander over Lundqvist’s right shoulder.

As hockey fans know, the first shift after a goal is very important in keeping or stealing the momentum of the game and that is exactly what happened. Only 30 seconds after Giroux gave the Flyers and the heavily Philadelphia-favored hometown crowd a seemingly comfortable two goal lead, Rangers fourth liner Mike Rupp skated left and shot right as he cut across the top of the circles and whipped a wristshot past Flyers backup goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Bobrovsky got the somewhat surprising nod to start in nets for Philadelphia over number one goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. Bryzgalov has struggled in recent games and maybe this highly visible benching will get him back on track.

Rupp’s goal seemed to give new life to the New York Rangers as the period ended shortly thereafter and the teams came back out in the third period for the final twenty minutes of the Winter Classic.

The Rangers wasted little time in the third period and tied the game on a seemingly harmless wrist shot by Rupp coming down the left wing. Bobrovsky seemed to be fooled by the shot as it got past him on the short side to put the teams in a 2-2 deadlock and silenced the crowd that came out for the Flyers and gave voice to the thousands of Rangers fans who entered enemy territory to cheer on their team.

With the game now tied, the visitors had wrestled the momentum back from their hosts. The teams exchanged a shot on goal each over the next two minutes before Rangers center Brad Richards scored to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead at 5:21 of the third period.

The next several minutes of play was carried by the Rangers. The home team seemed down and out as the Rangers were able to get pucks in deep and do the cycling board work that they do best. All the while eating up valuable minutes on the game clock.

Fighting dropping temperatures, gusting winds, a little snow fall and snowy ice, the Flyers had an uphill battle trying to come back late in the third period.

Despite controlling play, the Rangers breathed life back into the Flyers when Ryan McDonagh took a two minutes delay of game penalty at 14:48. With just 5:12 left in the third period, that is perhaps the worst time to take a penalty and potentially hand the momentum back to the Flyers and that is exactly what happened.

The Rangers killed the penalty off but from that point on, it was the Flyers’ puck. They tried valiantly to tie it up, peppering shots at Lundqvist, often finding their pointmen open for drives, working the puck down low in the Rangers zone, the Flyers were buzzing.

With time running down and Bobrovsky on the Flyers bench for an extra attacker, New York seemed to have a chance to put the game away as captain Ryan Callahan broke out of the zone, pushed the puck forward and charged down the ice.

However Callahan was hooked to the ice by Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timmonen and closed his hand on Timmonen’s stick on the play which meant both of them went to the penalty box.

The Flyers kept pounding at the door but Lundqvist repeatedly turned them away until a puck slid past him. McDonagh was right there for New York to make a sliding attempt to keep it out of the goal. He was able to keep the puck from going in but was called for closing his hand on the puck while in the crease which means the Flyers were awarded a penalty shot!

Talk about drama, over 4 decades of history between these teams, the focus has been on them all season, fighting each other for divisional and conference standing position, fans who clearly do not like each other, players who do not like each other, the two winningest American born coaches in the NHL, a two goal lead erased and turned into a one goal deficit for the home team, outdoors, under the lights, 46,967 screaming fans, one of the best goalies in the league at one end and one of the shiftiest scorers in Daniel Briere about to take the penalty shot that could tie this game with just 19.6 seconds left on the clock. The stadium would have exploded with cheers and possibly energize the Flyers for a forthcoming overtime victory.

Briere picked up the puck at center ice and closed in on Lundqvist, as he drew closer with his head up he tried to shoot fivehole on Lundqvist but was stopped by the Rangers goaltender.

The Flyers were able to get the puck down in the Rangers end again but simply ran out of time and the Rangers left Philadelphia with two points in the standings and countless great memories for themselves and their fans.

Philadelphia was a wonderful host for the Winter Classic and offered a great number of outdoor activities for the 46,000 plus fans at the game as well as thousands more outside who were just there for the atmosphere!

Be a part of the big event which seems to get better and better every season, next year’s game has yet to be announced but you can sign up for a 2013 Winter Classic Tickets email alert and be notified when you can order 2013 Winter Classic Tickets.
