MLS All Stars to Face Manchester United
Thursday, March 31st, 2011And now it is official.
Earlier this month, rumors surrounding the alleged opponent in the MLS All-Star Game were circulating. Much of the speculation revealed that Manchester United would square off with the All-Stars of Major League Soccer.
On Saturday, the MLS officially announced that Manchester United would in fact return for the second consecutive year as the All-Star Game opponent. Although it would have been fun to see another team compete this year, Manchester U is undoubtedly an exciting competitor to match up against.
The Barclay’s English Premier League leader defeated Major League Soccer’s All-Star team last year 5-2. Legendary Man U manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, admitted, “We’re delighted to have been invited to play the MLS All-Star Game for the second year running. Last year’s game was a special occasion in front of a noisy, passionate crowd. Obviously we’ll be looking to repeat the performance and the scoreline.”
However, the All-Star team will most likely have something else in mind. Last year’s undesired loss should have generated a theme for this year’s All-Stars: redemption.
Major League Soccer will host the English powerhouse at the 2011 MLS All-Star Game to be held on Wednesday, July 27 at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
