Over the past two days there have been meetings between the top guns of the New York Yankees, Derek Jeter, and Jeter’s agent Casey Close. At least one meeting was held on Tuesday between Yankees GM Brian Cashman, Jeter, and his agent in Tampa on Tuesday.

Before this meeting, the two sides had not interacted in several days. Jeter was offered a deal from the Yankees which would add three more years onto his time with the Yanks, and $45 million. However, the New York Times has said that Jeter is interested in a contract that will last four to five years and would be worth $23-$24 million per season.

The Yankees seem willing to stray from their original $45 million, three year offer in hopes of keeping Jeter with the Yankees. With Jeter’s $189 million, 10-year deal expiring after this season, it looks like he will be taking a cut in salary.

Both New York, and Jeter understand their importance to each other, and neither of them may be ready to give that up just yet. Spring training for the New York Yankees will commence on February 26, 2011 at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in beautiful Tampa, Florida.

Second year wide reciever for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Wallace, has been proving himself worthy of a selection to play in this season’s NFL Pro Bowl. He has been recording excellent stats this seaon, which proves that he is deserving of an NFL Pro Bowl selection.

Already this season Wallace has made eight touchdown catches to put him in seventh place in the NFL. Wallace is on pace with breaking the Steelers’ single-season receiving record of 12. If Wallace makes 13 touchdown receptions this season, he will break the current record held by teammate Hines Ward, Louis Lipps, and Buddy Dial.

Similiar to his touchdown ranking, Wallace is also ranked seventh in the league with a total yardage of 759. Averaging 23 yards per catch, Wallace is leading the NFL in yards-per-reception. Additionally, Wallace is second only to the Broncos’ Brandon Lloyd in recptions greater than 20 yards. He is tied for second with the Philadelphia Eagles’ DeSean Jackson, and just behind Denver’s Lloyd in catches over 40 yards.

If Wallace continues to keep up his game, he is a shoe-in for a Pro Bowl Selection. The 2011 NFL Pro Bowl will be held at the Aloha Stadium in gorgeous Honolulu Hawaii on Sunday, January 30.

Lamar Odom of the Los Angeles Lakers is regarded as one of the most well-rounded players in the National Basketball Association. He has been able to attain a gold medal at the FIBA World Championship over the summer, and two NBA championships. However, in all of his 12 years as a member of the NBA this 6-foot-10 lefty has never made a trip to the All Star Game.

Fortunately for Odum, this may be about to change. Last Thursday the NBA released the ballots for the 2011 All-Star game, and Odum was one of six Lakers who made the list.

Joining him on the ballet are two players who have also never been on the All-Star team including Derek Fisher and Andrew Bynum. One-time All Star Ron Artest made it on the ballet, as well as three-time All-Star Pau Gasol. Finally, 12-time All-Star Kobe Bryant is the last Laker on the ballot.

The Lakers have began the season 13-4, and Odum has contributed a large part to their success. Odum is currently averaging 3.7 assists, 10.8 rebounds, and 14.9 points per game. He is at the top of the league in field goal percentage, rebounds, and 3-point percentage.

The 2011 NBA All-Star Game will be held on Sunday, February 20 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

A little over two weeks ago, the New York Giants were coming off of five straight wins, and worked their way to the top of the NFC East with a 6-2 record. Now, with all three of the receivers who helped get them to that point sidelined for injuries, the team must find ways to fill this void.

Hakeem Nicks took the latest blow on Monday when he was treated for compartment syndrome. The injury occurred in his lower right leg, and is a condition where swelling compresses nerves and blood vessels. According to Giants’ coach Tom Coughlin, the treatment on Monday afternoon included a fasciotomy to relieve the tension and pressure.

Steve Smith is a receiver that Nicks will be joining on the injury report. The Giants second-leading receiver is expected to at least miss Sunday’s game, and it will remain in question if he will be able to play on December 5th when the Giants face the Redskins. With a partially torn pectoral muscle Smith will have limits as to what he can do even if when he returns to the game.

Combined, Nicks and Smith have been a major powerhouse with 98 catches, 1,170 yards, and 12 touchdowns. The Giants will have to rely on Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan to make up for their loss.

Earlier this month, the NHL announced a change in the way that the NHL All Star Game is typically formatted. Instead of the traditional East versus West matchup, this year’s game will feature captain No 1′s team vs. captain No. 2′s team. This will mark the first time an All-Star team will be decided by the players ever in a professional sport.

The fans will be choosing the first six players on each team including one goalie, three forwards, and two defensemen. After that, it’s the choice of the players to choose both team’s captains and their alternates. The chosen captains will then get to select the players to fill the remaining spots on the team.

According to Brendan Shanahan, the NHL’s vice-president of hockey and business development, the league wanted the All-Star game to be more competitive. The change stems from this desire, and will lead to an All-Star game featuring hockey’s true all-stars.

The New York Jets are currently tied for best record in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots. On Sunday night the Jets extended their record to 8-2 with a win over the Houston Texans.

New York’s 30-27 win over the Texans caused everyone in the stands, watching at home, and on the field to be at the edge of their seats until the final moments of the game. With just ten seconds in the fourth quarter, the Jets were relying on a touchdown pass from Mark Sanchez to Santonio Holmes.

Sunday’s game marked the third win in a row for the Jets, but it was also the third straight close-call game. With an upcoming game on Thanksgiving day, the New York Jets are looking to reduce their struggles with the Cincinnati Bengals.

It should not be much as a challenge for the Jets, as the Cincinnati Bengals are entering Thursday’s game off of their seventh straight loss – not to mention extremely with low morale. The defending AFC North champs need to step their game up if they want to have any hope of beating New York.

It was announced today that tickets to the 2011 NHL Heritage Classic tickets were the hottest event on Select A Ticket’s Top 5 list for the second straight week.

Hockey is going back to its roots for this game as you can experience exciting hockey action in the tradition of playing outdoors in Canada. This will mark the first time since 2003 when the Montreal Canadians hosted the Edmonton Oilers that the Heritage Classic was held on Canadian soil.

During the 2011 NHL Heritage Classic, the Calgary Flames will face the Montreal Canadiens at the outdoor McMahon Stadium in Calgary. This large stadium can hold up to 35,650 fans, but some believe using this venue could pose a potential problem.

The main question is whether or not it will be too cold for an outdoor, mid-February game in Canada. The NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman addressed this issue, stating the game would be moved indoors to the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Despite all of the doubts, the 2011 NHL Heritage Classic will be held in Canada on Sunday, February 20, 2011.

Bon Jovi’s “Circle Tour” has been such a huge success that more dates needed to be added. The band has added second shows in five different cities including Dublin, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, and Pittsburgh.

The US leg of Bon Jovi’s possible last tour will begin at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 before traveling to Pittsburgh. On February 11th and 12th the band will perform at the Consol Energy Center. Bon Jovi will also stop in Boston, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, and more during their US leg.

Additional shows have also been added in Canadian cities such as Toronto and Montreal. The New Jersey natives will visit the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on February 14, 2011, and will perform a second show on February 15. On February 18th Bon Jovi will perform in Montreal, with a second performance on February 19, 2011.

The band is also going international as the tour’s European leg will begin on June 8 at the Maximir Stadium in Zagreb, Croatia. Dates are lined up in Norway, Finland, Denmark, Greece, Spain, and more including Ireland. Due to popular demand, Bon Jovi will travel to Dublin, Ireland on June 30th during the European leg of the band’s “Circle Tour.”

Watch out Broadway, a new musical is coming to town this spring. From director Gregory Boyd, Wonderland will feature a new take on Alice in Wonderland.

This musical is based on Walt Disney’s 1954 classic Alice in Wonderland, but with a few changes. This new Alice finds that with the estrangement from her husband, and nearly losing her career, her love for life has disappeared. Alice ends up in Wonderland where she comes across the quirky inhabitants that we all know and love.

The show features music and lyrics by Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy with a book by Boyd and Murphy. Marguerite Derricks will join the creative team as the choreographer. Produced by Broadway by the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, along with William Franzblau and Nederlander Presentations, Inc. this musical is sure to keep your attention.

For the third week in a row, Oregon remains number one in the standings for the Bowl Championship Series. The standings that were released on Sunday also revealed that Auburn is number 2 for the third straight week.

These standings are made up of three factors that each count for one-third of a team’s total BCS average. These three factors include and average of six computer rankings, the USA Today Coaches Poll, and the Harris Interactive Poll.

Number 1 Oregon ranked number 2 in the computer polls, while remaining at the coveted number one spot for both of the human polls. Auburn was once again ranked number 2 in the human polls, and took the number one spot in the computers.

TCU follows at number 3 with an average of .8966, and with an average of .8634 Boise State is currently in fourth place. Up one spot from number 12, Alabama moved to number 11, and are now just behind Oklahoma State in tenth. Florida State has under half the average as Oregon, and are currently in 25th place.

The 2011 National Championship Championship Bowl will be held at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Monday, January 10, 2011.

A meeting held in Tampa between big leagues of the New York Yankees including co-owner Hal Steinbrenner, president Randy Levine, and general manager Brian Cashman along with Derek Jeter and his agent was conducted to allow for smooth contract negotiations. This meeting was the first face-to-face initiative taken by the Yankees to ensure that negotiations would not become more difficult than necessary.

Although not much information regarding the meeting was disclosed, an industry source said that this meeting was informal where no offers were made. It was an open meeting in which the Yankees and Jeter could answer each other’s questions to help start, and move the deal making process along. There have been no other meetings scheduled, but they are likely to begin just after the Thanksgiving holiday.

A source gave ESPN insight to the Yankees’ plan for Jeter, saying his contract would be above market value. According to the source, Jeter would be receiving anywhere from $15-21 million per season for three more years. Both New York, and Jeter understand their importance to each other, and neither of them may be ready to give that up just yet.
