Rangers Top Draft Pick: Dylan McIlrath
Last week at the Staples Center in Los Angeles a “dream come true” occurred for the first-round pick of the New York Rangers. Dylan McIlrath was drafted to the Rangers, who even at 18 years old understands the history of the Rangers and their home at Madison Square Garden.
McIlrath, along with the rest of the Rangers’ 2010 draft class took the opportunity to tour Madison Square Garden, and even preview what the new Garden will look like after the renovations take place over the next several years.
McIlrath acknowledged the tremendous history by mentioning the banners, and the famous hockey greats that have played at the Garden. “Just the history and the whole atmosphere, I’m sure, it’s going to be great once the building is packed. I’m looking forward to playing here,” McIlrath told NHL.com.
The transformations at the Garden will occur just as McIlrath himself will be improving, and transforming into a “complete player.” He said a the process would be long, and would be beginning this summer as he will try to improve his speed, strength, and size.
The Rangers will play their first preseason game at Madison Square Garden in New York City against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, September 23, 2010.
