NY Giants Lose Hixon for 2010 Season

Last week the New York Giants announced that they will be losing one of their most essential players for whole 2010 season.

In the middle of minicamp practices last week, the team announced that Domenik Hixon suffered from an injury to his right knee during practice the day before. Hixon, the Giants’ leading punt and kickoff returner last season, endured a torn anterior cruciate ligament after hyperextending his knee.

Team physician Russell Warren made the diagnosis, and followed the injury up with an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. It was determined that within the next two weeks the five year veteran will have surgery in order to fix the torn ligament

The Giants’ reliable wide receiver was returning a punt when the injury occurred at the New Meadowlands Stadium during the teams’ first practice ever in their new home.

Although training camp does not even begin for more than five weeks the Giants are already aware of their loss, and are looking into their other options to replace Hixon for the 2010 season. The Giants will play their first preseason game against the New York Jets as the opening game for the New Meadowlands Stadium.
