The New York Yankees just recently ended  a four-game series against the Cleveland Indians. The Yankees opened the series with a 8-2 win over the Indians.

The Yankees achieved this forceful win with lots of help from Robinson Cano, who hit a grand slam to score 4 points for the Yankees. The bases were loaded with a single, a double, and walk which set up Cano’s grand slam that he hit on his first pitch. This was Cano’s third grand slam in his career.

Another notable player in the series opener was right handed pitcher Phil Hughes. He played well for seven innings, only giving up two runs. He struck out the first five players of the game, and had a total of eight strike outs by the end of the night.

New York went on to win three out of the four games against Celeveland, but they were all high scoring games. Both teams put up a great fight in all four of the games, but the Yankees clearly came out the winner.

The New York Yankees will play their next game against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies is the top contender from the National League in the fan voting for the MLB Home Run Derby. The fans are voting on who they would be most interested in seeing in the Home Run Derby the night before the All-Star Game on July 13, 2010.

Howard is a home run champ. In his last four seasons he has banged out over 40 home runs, and has a total of 240 career home runs to his name including 3 walk offs, 27 tying, and 88 go ahead homers.

Other contenders from the National League include Mark Reynolds from the Diamondbacks, Troy Tulowitzki from the Rockies, Andre Ethier from the Dodgers, David Wright from the Mets, and more amazing players.

This is the second year in a row that the ballot allows the fans to select three of their favorite players from each league to compete in the Home Run Derby. After the initial fan votes are tallied, the MLB will have the final say in the players who participate in Monday’s Derby.

Today the National Hockey League announced the location and the teams to participate in their signature event, the Winter Classic. The commissioner of the NHL, Gary Bettman, announced that the NHL will continue to channel back to their roots by bringing the game to the outdoors.

The next Winter Classic to follow this great tradition will be held on New Years Day at Heinz Field, the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NHL favors football stadiums rather than any where else because of their enormous size and incredible sight lines.

The game will feature the face off between the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins. This much anticipated event will give Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby a chance to lead their own teams to victory in the best new event that sports has seen in the past decade, according to Forbes. Both of these leading players are NHL superstars, which will provide for an exciting matchup on game day.

In 1979, one of the celebrated albums of all time was released by Pink Floyd. Waters discussed that he is working together with the writer of “Billy Elliot” to create the perfect book to bring to the Broadway stage. They have created over three versions, and are still working hard to bring comedy to the book, and improve it overall.

The center fielder for the New York Yankees will begin a rehab stint in the minor leagues.

On May 1 Granderson suffered from a strain of the groin during the Yankees’ 7-6 loss against the White Sox. The injury occurred while he was running from first to third base in the sixth inning. He has missed 18 games since then, but the Yankees are hoping he heals by this weekend.

Curtis Granderson will start his rehab assignment on Saturday where he will be the designated hitter. The plan for the rest of the five-game stint consists of him alternating positions where Sunday he will play outfield, Wednesday he will be the DH again, back to the outfield on Tuesday with a day off on Wednesday. On Thursday, after his off day he will be playing in the first game of a double header.

The rehab assignment is designed to get Curtis back to the Yankees for their weekend series against the Cleveland Indians in the Bronx.

The New York Yankees will begin their next three game series on Tuesday, May 25 against the Twins in Minnesota before Granderson returns to the team on Saturday.

In less than a month, the annual U.S. Open Golf Championship will be held in at the Pebble Beach Golf Links for the first time since 2000. These Golf Links is where the 100th annual of the Open was held, and where Tiger Woods won his first U.S. Open.

Tiger will return to the beautiful golf links at Pebble Beach this year, but they have changed a bit over the past decade. Changes have been mandated by USGA officials, and suggested by Arnold Palmer in order to make this years’ Open more challenging than the previous years that it was held at the Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Fairways of the course have been moved closer to cliffs and waters, and have been narrowed to optimize difficulty. Previously the course was 6828 yards long. It has now been lengthened to a total of 7,040 yards. New teeboxes have been added to several holes, and on shorter holes the graduated rough will be grown taller as a penalty on shots that stray from the course.

Additionally, the par of the course will be played as par 71 instead of 72 as officials have raised the par of the 502-yard second hole to a par 4 instead of a par 5.

Thierry Henry will be joining the New York Red Bulls. It has been confirmed by a league source that the 35 year old soccer player will be likely joining the Red Bulls after the World Cup. Dietrick Mateschitz, co-founder of the Red Bulls created a contract for Henry that not only entails playing in games, but promotional duties as well.

This weekend Thierry Henry will be finishing up his season with Spanish La Liga club Barcelona, and then he will be playing for France in South Africa during the World Cup on June 11-July 11.

Since Barcelona’s striker has only been able to score four goals in 15 league appearances, it seems as though he is falling through the cracks. Only a short time ago Joan Laporta, Barcelona president, told reporters that Henry could leave the club in the summer, and was free to do so.

However, Henry still has lots of soccer in him as he was rated the top player in the world last November. The New York Red Bulls could use Thierry Henry as a positive asset to their team.

The Red Bulls will play their next match on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the Red Bull Arena against Juventus FC.

Nick Johnson, designated hitter for the New York Yankees, endured surgery on his right wrist on Tuesday. On Saturday the general manager of the Yankees mentioned that Johnson might have been in need of surgery, and sure enough on Tuesday he had his wrist operated on.

After the Yankees’ game on May 7 at Fenway Park, Johnson was experiencing soreness in his right wrist. He received a cortisone shot after the game, and the Yankees waited to see if the shot would work.

After the cortisone did not work, Johnson decided to have the surgery. Johnson was diagnosed with an inflamed tendon, and the surgery was to remove the inflamed tissue from his right wrist.

The 31-year old was told that he will need to rest for a minimum of four to six weeks before returning to the field. Joe Girardi, the Yankees’ manager mentioned that the surgery “is not a quick fix,” and that he is not expecting Johnson to return until late in the summer.

Bruce Springsteen may have been the one to host the final shows at the old Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, but it will be Bon Jovi who will open the new $1.6 billion stadium.

The new Meadowlands Stadium will be a great destination for summer concerts in northern New Jersey. Bon Jovi will be opening the new Meadowlands Stadium with three concerts to be held on May 26, 27, and 28, 2010.

These three shows at the new Meadowlands Stadium will be a part of Bon Jovi’s World Tour “Circle Tour.” New Jersey will be a three day pit stop in this 30 country, 135-show tour that will stretch into next year.

The amazing opening acts will also bring some style to New Jersey’s new outdoor arena. Train will be opening on Wednesday, May 26, Gavin DeGraw will be opening on Thursday, May 27, and OneRepublic will be opening on May 29.

On Wednesday the New York Jets and the New York Giants made their bid to host the 2014 Super Bowl at the new Meadowlands Stadium. However, there is some controversy surrounding this bid as it will be the first time the Super Bowl will not be held in a stadium with a roof, or in a place where the minimum game day temperature is around 50 degrees.

These have been the requirements since the first Super Bowl in 1967, but when the National Football League waived those game day requirements it gave the Jets and the Giants the go-ahead to submit a joint bid to be the host. On May 25 NFL owners will be voting on the game’s 2014 location.

The game will either be held in NYC, South Florida, or Tampa, and it will be up to the 32 NFL owners who are voting to decide. If none of the cities get votes from 24 of the owners (75 percent of the vote) on the first ballot, then no one will be determined the winner. However, the city with the lowest votes will be removed from the competition, and then the winner will be decided on the second ballet by majority rule.
