Osi Umenyiora and Giants At Odds

Osi Umenyiora, defensive end of the New York Giants, did not find satisfaction with his role on the team in 2009, and on Thursday when he spoke with the media during a break in the Giant’s workout program it was made clear that he is still at odds with his team. His silence spoke a thousand words when he answered questions about his lasting knee injury, role on the team next season, competition for a starting position, and retiring or trading with, “no comment.”

Umenyiora said he wants to be truthful to the media, but if he were to be truthful it would reflect badly on the Giant’s coaching staff. He seems to be keeping his troubles to himself after last season when he publicly said some things that got him in trouble with the Giants.

After an 8-8 season, Umenyioria made it public that he was not yet guaranteed his starting job for next year by general manager Jerry Reese and coach Tom Coughlin. Since this upset Reese and Coughlin, it seems as though Umenyiora learned his lesson by keeping his mouth shut on Thursday.

During the 2008 season Osi Umenyiora did not play in any games due to a major injury during a pre-season game to his left knee. Last season he insisted that his knee did not prove to be a problem, and started in 11 games finishing with 45 tackles seven sacks, which is a team high.

Despite everything, Umenyiora expects that this will be “a very, very good season” for him with the New York Giants.
