Spring Cleaning in Syracuse for NCAA East Regionals

This week thousands of out of town visitors will be traveling to Syracuse  for the 2010 NCAA Tournament East Regionals. The City of Syracuse wanted to help spruce up the city before all of the out of towners arrived.

The Downtown Committee of Syracuse, the city, and Onondaga County searched for volunteers to help with an organized clean up in nine different spots around downtown Syracuse, and the Syracuse University Campus. The Carrier Dome at the University will be housin three games for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight to compete in. Those three games include two semifinal games on Thursday, March 25, and a final on Saturday, March 27.

Around 150 volunteers went out to support the cleanup. They picked up empty cups, food wrappers, plastic bags, and any other garbage that was there. With the volunteers focusing most of their cleanup on roads leading to the Carrier Dome, areas near major roads, and other spots that were trash prone, almost 300 bags of trash were filled by the end of the day.

If you would like to get involved for Syracuse’s next “spring cleaning”, the Downtown Committee of Syracuse has another clean up date scheduled for April 17.
