Rivera, Jeter, and Giardi in Final Year of Contract
New York Yankees super stars, Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter, are due for new contracts after the 2010 baseball season. The Yankees will also have to handle the deal for manager Joe Giardi. However according to team policy their possible contract extensions will not be discussed until after this season.
Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer in the history of baseball. Throughout his career he has 502 saves, and he is only one out of two relievers who can say they have at least 500 saves. Also throughout his career has has a 2.29 ERA. Rivera had a great season in 2009 because he converted 39 out of 40 save chances with an ERA of 1.40. There is no doubt that he is an excellent asset to the Yankees. He makes strike outs, barely walks batters, and hardly ever lets extra-base hits occur.
Derek Jeter is also entering his final season of his 10-year contract with New York. He said he understood the team’s policy of not negotiating new contracts until the current deal is over. Nonetheless, Jeter has made it clear many of times that he wants to be a Yankee for life. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is the only organization I ever wanted to play for. It’s still the only organization I want to play for. I can’t say it enough times,” said Jeter.
The New York Yankees will have their opening day game on April 13, 2010 at Yankee Stadium against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, and Joe Giardi are all entering the final year of their contracts, and their deals will not be negotiated until this season is over. Don’t miss your chance to see them in action.
