Weather Brings Decline in Broadway Ticket Sales

The last week in February made for a slow week at many Broadway box offices. The New York City area has experienced many heavy snowstorms this winter which made ticket sales decline for many musicals and plays on the stages of Broadway.

Many plays in previews such as “Looped,”and “Next Fall,” had a slow week in sales. Some of the Major musicals experienced a drop of 30% or more in their weekly box office grosses. “West Side Story,” “Mamma Mia!,” “The Lion King,” and “Chicago” were a few out of the many musicals that were affected by the harsh snow storms in the NYC area.

However, there was one musical that did actually do well at the box offices. “A Little Night Music” is a musical revival which had a return from its star, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Broadway’s slow end to February grossed a total of 14.2 million as opposed to the $17.8 million grossed the week before.

Now that the snow storms are over, it is your chance to come enjoy the beautiful New York City weather and see a Broadway play such as Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys, American Idiot, Wicked, and more!
