The Broadway production of Wicked is standing the test of time. According to the people, it has been and is remaining to be the best and biggest Broadway musical in New York City. This season, Derek Jeter will be entering his final year of his contract with the New York Yankees. At the end of this season Derek Jeter and the Yankees will be getting together in order to negotiate a new contract. However, the negotiation might begin to become difficult because of a few reasons.

There are two main questions on everyone’s mind. One, as Derek Jeter becomes older, and his defensive skills start to take a dive, will the Yankees think about moving him from his shortstop position? And two, will Jeter urge to be paid as much as Alex Rodriguez? Both of these questions could potentially lead to problems as the contract is negotiated at the end of the 2010 season.

Although these may lead to difficulties, one thing is for sure. Derek Jeter has made it extremely clear that he would remain a Yankee for life. The Yankees are lucky to have a player such as Jeter who is as team oriented as he is.

On March 20, 2010 the New York Red Bulls will open their new $180 million Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls will be facing Robinho who is traveling with the legendary Brazilian club, Santos.

In addition to Robinho, there are 17 other players who will be traveling with the team including Fabio Costa, Giovani, and additional senior roster players. Before the 1970′s the theatre was listed as having a seating capacity of 2,137. During the 70′s, the theatre underwent a major renovation. The entrance of the theatre was moved, which allowed the original lobby to become a diner. They also made the theatre into a multiplex. The orchestra seating in the original theatre became an auditorium equipped with two smaller screens.

In 2006 the Wellmont Theatre sadly closed. Two years later there were reports circulating that the theatre was sold, and the new owners were planning to reopen it for concerts, comedy acts, and other events. In 2008 the Wellmont Theatre had more renovations completed. The triplex was removed and it once again became a single screen theatre. On November 1, 2008 the theatre re-opened as a concert venue.

It is getting down to the wire, and the NCAA teams of the east are battling out to see decide what seed they will be ranked while they compete in the 2010 Big East Tournament. Almost one year ago the Broadway production of God of Carnage began previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. Since then, it has become the 2009 Tony Award Winner for Best Play, and was given the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. The play was originally scheduled to be a limited engagement, running only until July 19, 2009, but has become so successful that the producers have extended its time on Broadway.

The current cast of the play includes Annie Potts, Jimmy Smits, Ken Scott, and Christine Lahti. They will be having their last performance on February 28, 2010. After their final performance a new cast will be taking over.

On March 2nd Lucy Liu will be making her Broadway debut as a cast member in God of Carnage. Dylan Baker, Jeff Daniels, and Janet McTeer will be joining the cast as well. Jeff Daniels was a member of the original Broadway cast, and will be returning in march to play a different role in the production.

God of Carnage tells the story of two married couples in present-day New York City. The couples are Michael and Veronica, and Alan and Annete. They meet for the first time after their children had a nasty fight at school. Michael and Veronica invite Alan and Annette over planning to have a peaceful discussion regarding whose child is responsible for the fight, but this quickly becomes uncivilized!

The New York Yankees won their 27th World Series title this past season, and left pitcher Andy Pettitte to decide if he wanted to leave the MLB with a bang by retiring as a World Series champ. Although Pettitte was taking that into consideration, he decided that he was not quite ready to say good-bye to the game just yet.

On Friday Andy Pettitte spoke about retiring and said, “I want to make sure that I don’t go home and miss it, that it’s killing me not to be here. When I do it, I want to be done with it. I don’t think it would be fair to my family to say that I’m done and then pull the rug out from underneath them. I want to make sure I’ve fully exhausted myself of this.” Neither the Yankees, nor Andy Pettitte himself see an end, which led them to agree that his return will only be a yearly review.

Last season before the Yankees won the American League East the 37-year-old left hander went 14-8 and only gave up an average of 4.16 runs per game. As the postseason ended, he earned his fifth World Series ring, while finishing the postseason going 4-0 with a 3.52 ERA. Including each clincher in the postseason of 2009, Pettitte has 229 wins under his belt. Pettitte is key for the Yankees whenever they are under pressure.

Rock of Ages is a musical on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York City which brings the music of some of the most amazing rock bands to life on stage. The show takes place in Hollywood, California in 1987. This arena-rock love story shows you inside a romance that buds between a rocker, and small town girl when they meet in the most famous rock club in Los Angeles while jamming out to the greatest hits of the 1980s.

The stars of Rock of Ages include Constantine Maroulis, Kerry Butler, Mitchell Jarvis, James Carpinello, Michele Mais, and many more. The show is directed by Kristin Hanggi. Although she did direct Rock of Age’s Off-Broadway and L.A. Productions, this musical is her first Broadway directorial debut. Chris D’Arienzo wrote the book for the musical, and he is in the process of developing movie adaptation of Rock of Ages.

In a three team deal the New York Knicks added Tracy McGrady from the Houston Rockets to their roster. The trade also sent Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry to Boston in exchange for a future second-round pick, and players Eddie House, Bill Walker, and J.R. Giddens.

McGrady is a former NBA All-Star, and he is hoping for a chance to prove that he still is a top player within the NBA. However, he is still recovering from micro-fracture knee surgery, and has only played in six games this season. The Knicks are still undecided about whether or not McGrady will make his Knick’s debut in Saturday’s game.

In the McGrady deal, New York also traded Jared Jeffries which freed up $6.9 million from their payroll for next season. This puts the Knicks in position to possible offer a couple contracts this summer with max salary. Before this deal, they could have afforded one max salary player, but after Thursday’s trade the Knicks were left with roughly $32 million for salary caps.

The New York Knicks were defeated 115-109 by the Chicago Bulls in their last game. They will play their next game at Madison Square Garden against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday, February 20, 2010.

A new comedy based on a real event is coming to Broadway. Looped follows a summer night in 1965 when celebrated actress Tallulah Bankhead was called into the sound studio. She was called into the studio to re-record (or loop) the words “Die, die my darling,” a line from her final film.

However, when she shows up to loop the line she is completely intoxicated. Tallulah Bankhead was known to be a rebel. She was a party girl who experimented with alcohol, drugs, and bisexuality. She was definitely a bad girl in Hollywood at her time. During this recording session, she was far too inebriated to properly loop the line for the film, and a fight begins between the editor of the film, and Ms. Bankhead herself.

Starring in the Broadway show is Valerie Harper, whose claim to fame was as Rhonda on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. She became a Broadway star with her performance in The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife. The director of the show is Rob Ruggiero who is nationally recognized for both his musicals and plays.

The pothole at the 2010 Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 14 managed to almost steal the show. The Daytona 500 was halted on two different occasions because of the holes in the pavement at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

One of the potholes made an appearance on the asphalt a little after the halfway point of the race between the first and second turn. The officials of NASCAR had to stop the race on Lap 123 so the track officials could work to repair the 9x15x2 inch pothole. The damage took nearly two hours to fix before the race could continue on.

Forty minutes later the pothole appeared again, which led to another halt to the race of 45 minutes to repair the damage. Altogether the repairs of using a pink putty-like filler in the pavement took over two hours, and forced the race to last more than six hours. Could this be due to the fact that the Daytona International Speedway hasn’t been paved in 32 years?

Despite the pothole situation, there was still a winner of the 52nd annual of the Daytona 500. Jamie McMurray beat out Dale Earnhardt Jr. for his fourth ever NASCAR cup victory. Tickets for the Daytona 400 are among the most coveted NASCAR tickets throughout the racing season, and they sell fast.

An announcement was made today by Glen Sather, President and General Manager of the New York Rangers, which said that Donald Brashear has joined a new team. Unfortunately for him, that new team is the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League. He was sent to the Wolf Pack after he cleared waivers, and did not have any takers from the teams of the NHL.

With the Rangers this season, Brashear has played in 36 games, and has missed a total of 25. This number includes the last eight games in which he did not dress. In those 36 games he has had 73 penalty minutes, and ranks third on the team for the most penalty minutes. In the Rangers’ 5-2 win over Phoenix, he registered his first and only point with the Rangers as an assist.

In spite of that, he is still a veteran of the game. He suited up for his 1,000 career NHL game this season against Atlanta on November 12.

The New York Rangers won their last game vs Tampa 8-2 on January 19. The Rangers will play their next game on Valentine’s Day, Sunday, February 14 at 1pm against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
