New York Knicks Get Haunted

Friday, January 15th, 2010

The New York Knicks lost 106-88 to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Could the reason for the Knicks loss be because of ghosts in their downtown hotel?

The Knicks were convinced that the hotel they were staying in was haunted. Multiple players were having a hard time sleeping because of the supposed ghosts at the Skirvin Hotel. Eddy Curry, center for the Knicks, constantly thought about the ghosts in the hotel and only got two hours of sleep on Sunday night.

The Skirvin Hilton is no stranger to ghost sightings and strange noises. There have been reports for years of these occurrences. In the 1930′s a maid jumped to her death from the 10th floor while holding her baby in her arms, at least that is how the legend goes. Eddy Curry said he was the only player on the 10th floor, and that’s why most of his time was spent in Nate Robinson’s room.

The New York Knicks will play their next game against the Toronto Raptors on Friday, January 15.

New Jersey Nets Lose to the Boston Celtics

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

The New Jersey Nets suffered a horrible loss to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night in their own gym. The Nets now have an embarrassing 3-35 record for the 2009-2010 season.

The Boston Celtics were short handed and played without 2 of their best players because Kevin Garnett and Rasheed Wallace were both injured. However, after just six minutes into the game the celtics had a double digit lead. The Nets were 16 points behind the Celtics after the first quarter.

The Celtics took an easy 30-point lead to make the score 57-27 in the second quarter. As the Nets went into the halftime break trailing by 36, something unusual happened in the locker room. Devin Harris took halftime as an opportunity to announce his frustrations with the team.

In the second half of Wednesday’s game, the New Jersey Nets outscored the Boston Celtics by 12, and it seemed as though Harris got his teammates’ attention. But that wasn’t the case. The New Jersey Nets were unable to make a comeback and lost 111-87 to the Celtics.

The New Jersey Nets will play their next game on January 15 against the Indiana Pacers.

New York Rangers Win 3-2 Over Boston Bruins

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

The New York Rangers earned a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins on Monday night at Madison Square Garden to give the Rangers their 2nd victory in 10 home games. A late goal by Christopher Higgins was the shot that led the Rangers to victory after controlling most of the game, and almost letting it slip away.

The Rangers took the lead halfway through the first period. They took this lead through Ales Kotalik’s power-play. This goal was his first goal since Novemeber 5 of last year. The Rangers added to their lead with a goal by Erik Christensen in the second period. This was his second score in 3 games. At this point New York seemed to be the sure winner.

The Bruins finally showed up to the game late in the third period when they struck twice. Matt Hunwick made the first, and Blake Wheeler was right behind him scoring just over a minute later.

Christopher Higgins saved the game for the rangers when he struck with just 1:29 remaining in the game. The goal led the Rangers into joint seventh in the Eastern Conference. This goal was especially special for Higgins as this was his first goal at Madison Square Garden since October 6, 2005 when he was a rookie with Montreal.

Jets Win in Stadium Finale

Monday, January 4th, 2010

The New York Jets were the lucky team to play the football finale at Giants Stadium. New York closed the stadium with a 37-0 shutout to the Cincinnati Bengals, and a shower of green and white confetti. Giants’ stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey has hosted the most National Football League games in history. In this 34 year-old building the Jets earned playoff berth in its final game.

The Jets completely owned the first half of the game. During New York’s opening drive they went 72 yards in 7 plays where Thomas Jones finally got into the end zone and scored for the home team. Mark Sanchez threw for less than 70 yards and went 8 of 16 passing. But it was New York’s defense that was able to stop Cincinatti. They held the Bengals to only 7 yards.

The Jets embarrassed the Bengals in Sunday’s game. However, the Jets won 5 out of their last 6 games so they earned the AFC’s fifth seed and a chance to play in the wild card round. Cincinnati will have a chance to redeem themselves when the teams face each other in the playoffs on Saturday at Paul Brown Stadium.
