NJ Devil Martin Brodeur Sets New Shutout Record
New Jersey Devils goaltender, Martin Brodeur broke the NHL record with his 104th career shutout. It came pretty easily against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night as the Devils beat last year’s Stanley Cup Champions 4-0. The Devils, 13-2-1 away from home, (a league best) used an effective team effort to deny the Penguins of any net action at Mellon Arena on Monday night.
The shutout record is just the latest in a series of milestones for Martin Brodeur. On March 17 against Chicago, Brodeur passed Patrick Roy’s regular-season victories record with his 552nd win. On November 27 in Boston, Brodeur became the record career minutes holder with 60,235 career minutes. Now, only 2 days after breaking another on of Patrick Roy’s record for regular season appearances by a goaltender in his 1,032 career game, Brodeur was successful in surpassing the career shutouts record.
The Penguins gave the Devils little trouble on Monday as the 37-year-old goalie made just 35 saves to break legendary Terry Sawchuck’s shutout record. Terry Sawchuk held the record alone for 45 years up until 2 weeks ago when Brodeur matched it.
Next, the New Jersey Devils will play the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday, December 28. Don’t miss the all-time winningest goalie perform live and in person for yourself.
