New York Yankees Trade Melky Cabrera

The New York Yankees traded outfielder Melky Cabrera on Tuesday for Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves. Vazquez, 33 will join the Yankees pitching rotation which includes some of the best such as Andy Pettitte, CC Sabathia, and A.J. Burnett.

Javier Vazquez has been a NY Yankee before. He threw his last pitch playing with the Yankees during their Game 7 loss of the AL Championship series to the Boston Red Sox in 2004. He gave up 2 homers, one of which included a grand slam by Johnny Damon.

In 2004 while pitching for New York, Vazquez had a 14-10 record and a 4.91 ERA. Last season he was ranked 2nd in the National League last season with a 15-10 record. He had 238 strikeouts, and with 2.87, he was ranked 6th in ERA.

The current World Series Champs are making other small adjustments to their roster in hopes of winning back-to-back World Series Championships. Among these changes are a few trades of left and right-handers. The Yankees are acquiring right-hander Boone Logan, and are sending left-hander Mike Dunn to the Atlanta Braves.
