Exciting Rodeo Action at the National Finals Rodeo

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Experience the exciting Rodeo action in person at the 2009 National Finals Rodeo. The NFR is held on Thursday, December 3 through Saturday, December 12.

The National Finals Rodeo has a long history since it’s first year in 1959. It was originally held in Texas, then was moved to Los Angeles, and then Oklahoma City. The first year that NFR was held in Las Vegas was 1985.

Each year since then the National Finals Rodeo is held at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and this year is no exception. This hosts the best Cowboys, Bull Riders, and some of the biggest Country music stars.

This Rodeo lasts 10 days and includes 7 exciting competitive events. The 7 events are: saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, and team-down roping. From these events, 8 world champions are crowned. There is a winner for each of the events, and there is an overall champion who participated in more than one event.

Over 170,000 guests will come to the Thomas and Mack center during the 10 days of this event to see the National Finals Rodeo. The Thomas and Mack Center reaches capacity every night during the duration of the rodeo. Since this venue is relatively small, and can only host 18,000 people, many must watch the exciting action on TV. You could see this live Rodeo action in person.

New York Rangers Goalie Henrik Lundqvist Injured

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Superstar New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will not play in tonight’s game in Calgary vs the Flames.

The New York Rangers are reporting it as a minor injury and the thought is he’s being held out as a precautionary measure.

NHL teams do not fully disclose the nature of injuries but it is believed Lundqvist has an upper thigh/groin problem.

Backup goaltender Steve Valiquette will start his second straight game. He is coming off a 4-2 victory in Edmonton. Valiquette has a modest winning record (2-1) so far this season including a shutout vs the Ducks.

Adding to the drama of tonight’s game is the Sean Avery vs Dion Phaneuf matchup. Avery, the notorious Rangers agitator, made disparaging remarks about Phaneuf and his girlfriend, actress Elisha Cuthbert, who happens to be an ex-girlfriend of Avery’s.

So keep an eye on those two tonight as there are sure to be some extra elbows thrown around if they both chase the puck into the corner!

Tonight’s game marks the end of the NY Rangers’ current West Coast road trip. Their next home game at Madison Square Garden will be Thursday November 12th vs the surprisingly competitive Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers lost star sniper Ilya Kovalchuk to injury earlier this season but they’ve managed to go 6-5-1 so far.

Select-A-Ticket has tickets for Thursday’s game vs Atlanta and for most home games, visit SelectATicket.com for New York Rangers tickets today.

Devils Win In Shootout

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

On Saturday, October 31 the New Jersey Devils celebrated a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Devils extended their winning streak on the road to seven straight games, which is the second longest in NHL history.

The win did not come easy as it was left up to a shootout. David Clarkson scored the winning goal for the Devils in the fourth round of the shootout.

Devils’ goalie Martin Brodeur made 18 saves. He was close to tying Terry Sawchuk’s NHL shutout record of 103, but with just 5 minutes into the third period Tampa’s Steven Samkos scored.

From the first two weeks of the season, the NHL made an announcement that among all NHL teams, the New Jersey Devils had one of the biggest jumps in attendance and also had a high increase in local TV ratings.

Spokesman Bob Sommer said that during the Devils first 4 games of the 2010 season, the average attendance has been 16,114 compared to last years season average of just 15,790. Price drops on tickets, increased presence on social networking sites, and other marketing efforts said to be the cause.
