Nate Robinson Shoots at the Wrong Basket
The New York Knicks were able to celebrate a 98-91 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Saturday, November 21. However, the victory was overshadowed by a foolish decision made by Nate Robinson, the Knicks’ point guard.
Within the last 0.5 seconds of the first quarter of Saturday’s game. An inbound pass was made to Nate Robinson in the backcourt, and shot at his own basket. The shot went in, but did not count because it was released after time had expired.
According to the NBA rulebook the shot would not have counted regardless if time had expired or not. The rulebook says that if a player shoots at the opposing teams’ basket, no one would receive any points. However, it would result in a turnover.
Knicks’ coach Mike D’Antoni promptly yelled at Robinson between quarters. Also, when meeting with news media after the game, he criticized Nate Robinson’s bazaar decisions.
Nate Robinson only played for 6 minutes of the entire game on Saturday, and lead many people to believe that he was benched because of the shot. D’Antoni denied the speculation, and felt that other players were simply playing better.
The New York Knicks have their next game in Sacramento against the Kings on Wednesday night.
