NY Knicks Interested in Allen Iverson
Donnie Walsh, the president of the New York Knicks, confirmed on Monday that the team was thinking about the possibility of signing Allen Iverson to the team. The Knicks were unable to sign a guard in the offseason, and Allen Iverson is not happy with the amount of time he has been playing since leaving the Philadelphia 76ers.
Since the 76ers, the former league MVP has played with the Detroit Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies. Before receiving an “indefinite leave of absence,” and mutually reaching the decision to no longer be a part of the Grizzlies, Iverson played in just 3 games this season.
Walsh and Knicks’ coach Mike D’Antoni are both impressed with Iverson’s abilities, but they still must decide if it’s worth having him join the team. With 1 win and 9 losses, the Knicks are off to the worst 10-game start in franchise history.
Iverson appeals to the Knicks for a couple of reasons. He is popular with the fans and they would be able to sign him only for this season which would allow them to not use up a future salary-cap space. Iverson would also provide the Knicks with much needed attention, a marquee name, and a definite scorer.
