The Revival of Bye Bye Birdie

The first-ever revival of the musical Bye Bye Birdie is now on Broadway. The Roundabout Theatre Company revival of this popular broadway show is the first show to play at the newly renovated and reborn Henry Miller’s Theatre.

The original show opened on April 14, 1960 and played 607 performances before it closed on October 7. This reproduction of the Tony Award-winning musical is ready to entertain audiences for the first time in nearly 50 years.

Bye Bye Birdie tells the story of Conrad Birdie who is a rock n roll superstar. Before this music idol goes to the army, his agent and secretary plan a stunt for publicity where a girl gets to give Conrad Birdie a farewell kiss on The Ed Sullivan show.

Bye Bye Birdie features music and lyrics by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams with a book by Michael Stewart. Robert Longbottom is both the director and the choreographer.

The all-star cast includes Bill Irwin, Jayne Houdyshell, Dee Hoty, and Nolan Gerard Funk, who is making his broadway debut at Conrad Birdie. The story focuses on Conrad’s manager, Albert, who is played by John Stamos, and Conrad’s secretary, Rosie, who is played by Gina Gershon.
