Martin Brodeur, the New Jersey Devils goaltender, set a new record on Friday. During the Devils’ 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins, the 37-year old became the NHL’s all-time leader in career minutes played.

The previous record of 60,235 minutes played was held by Hall of Famer, Patrick Roy. Brodeur only needed 20 minutes to tie the record, and he surpassed the record several minutes into the second period. The NHL’s top goaltender has now played for 60,280 minutes while the previous 25 goalies in Devils’ history have only played for a combined total of 67,264 minutes.

The Bruins tied the game early in the 3rd period to bring the score to 1-1, which took away Brodeur’s hope in tying the record for career shut outs on the same night. Brodeur sent the game into overtime by saving a goal from the Bruin’s Marc Savard with just four seconds left of the game on a point-blank shot. Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise made goals for the Devils to take the victory. This season, the Devils are now 4-1 in shootouts.

The New Jersey Devils will play their next game against the New York Islanders on Saturday, November 28.

Chris Drury, captain of the New York Rangers, suffered from a concussion on Saturday, November 7. The concussion occurred during the Calgary Flames game when Drury endured a blindside hit to his chin from the shoulder of the Flames’ Curtis Glencross.

Drury began practicing and skating again on Saturday. He then returned for the first time in 5 games on Wednesday night against the Florida Panthers.

The New York Rangers won 2-1 in a shootout over the Panthers. This was the 2nd shootout for the Rangers of the season, and P.A. Parenteau made the winning shot in both of the games. This victory gave the Rangers’ back to back wins for the first time since October.

The captain entered Wednesday’s game against the panthers with 4 assists and 2 goals in 18 games. In Drury’s two seasons with the Rangers, he has averaged 33.5 assists and 23.5 goals.

Drury helped set up the first goal of the night for the Rangers. In the final half minute of the 2nd period, Marian Gaborik gave the Rangers an early lead with a power play from Drury.

The New York Rangers will play their next game in Tampa Bay against the Lightning on Friday night.

The New York Knicks were able to celebrate a 98-91 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Saturday, November 21. However, the victory was overshadowed by a foolish decision made by Nate Robinson, the Knicks’ point guard.

Within the last 0.5 seconds of the first quarter of Saturday’s game. An inbound pass was made to Nate Robinson in the backcourt, and shot at his own basket. The shot went in, but did not count because it was released after time had expired.

According to the NBA rulebook the shot would not have counted regardless if time had expired or not. The rulebook says that if a player shoots at the opposing teams’ basket, no one would receive any points. However, it would result in a turnover.

Knicks’ coach Mike D’Antoni promptly yelled at Robinson between quarters. Also, when meeting with news media after the game, he criticized Nate Robinson’s bazaar decisions.

Nate Robinson only played for 6 minutes of the entire game on Saturday, and lead many people to believe that he was benched because of the shot. D’Antoni denied the speculation, and felt that other players were simply playing better.

The New York Knicks have their next game in Sacramento against the Kings on Wednesday night.

The New Jersey Devils opened the 2009-2010 season by winning their first nine games on the road. With this opening, the Devils came within one win of taking the all time record for away wins to open the season. It seems as though now the team suddenly cannot win on the road.

The Devils fell first in Philadelphia to the Flyers, then again in Nashville to the Predators, and then ended their road trip with a loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday, November 21.

Despite these losses, the Devils have had a pretty decent season so far. In their 21 games, they are ranked 20th in the offense with an average of 2.62 goals per game. The Devils are ranked 3rd in the entire NHL with a record of 14-6-1.

Martin Brodeur, goalie for the New Jersey Devils is just 1 shutout away from tying the record. The NHL record is now held by Terry Sawchuk with 103 career shut outs. Brodeur can hope to tie this record on Wednesday, November 25 against the Ottawa Senators.

After 21 seasons former NJ Devil, Brendan Shanahan, is retiring from the National Hockey League. He has not played this season, and decided to leave the Devils after being told that he did not have a spot on their top three lines. He made the announcement on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old NJ forward has had had many achievements throughout his career. He is ranked 11th on the NHL’s career goal list. With 656 regular-season goals, he is the only player to ever have 600 goals and 2,000 penalty minutes.

Brendan Shanahan is an 8 time All-Star who has won three Stanley Cup Championships with the Detroit Red Wings, a Canada Cup with Canada, and an Olympic gold medal.

His playing days may be over, but the NHL is not ready to say goodbye to him yet. It is a possibility that Shanahan could be a fit for the NHL Players’ Association. During the NHL’s 04-05 lockout Shanahan organized a summit which led to rule changes and a new agreement was reached.

The New Jersey Devils have started the season 14-5-1. Their next game is on Saturday, November 21 against the Dallas Stars.

Donnie Walsh, the president of the New York Knicks, confirmed on Monday that the team was thinking about the possibility of signing Allen Iverson to the team. The Knicks were unable to sign a guard in the offseason, and Allen Iverson is not happy with the amount of time he has been playing since leaving the Philadelphia 76ers.

Since the 76ers, the former league MVP has played with the Detroit Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies. Before receiving an “indefinite leave of absence,” and mutually reaching the decision to no longer be a part of the Grizzlies, Iverson played in just 3 games this season.

Walsh and Knicks’ coach Mike D’Antoni are both impressed with Iverson’s abilities, but they still must decide if it’s worth having him join the team. With 1 win and 9 losses, the Knicks are off to the worst 10-game start in franchise history.

Iverson appeals to the Knicks for a couple of reasons. He is popular with the fans and they would be able to sign him only for this season which would allow them to not use up a future salary-cap space. Iverson would also provide the Knicks with much needed attention, a marquee name, and a definite scorer.

On Sunday, November 15 the New York Jets lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-22. This loss may have eliminated their chances of making it into the playoffs. It was another devastating loss for the 4-5 Jets, who opened the NFL season with three wins.

The loss came in the form of a 21-yard field goal kicked by Jacksonville’s Josh Scobee as time expired in Sunday’s game at the Meadowlands.

The Jets, who are the ranked second in the NFL for defense, allowed 250 yards, 14 first downs, and 21 points in just the first half. In the second half the Jets’ defense showed what they were made for most of allowing just 97 yards.

The New York jets played poorly, and made many sloppy errors. During the biggest play of the game they failed on pass coverage, they wasted 2 timeouts in the second half because of a sideline/huddle miscommunication, and when they were instructed not to tackle Maurice Jones-Drew, they did. Coach Rex Ryan was intending on letting Jacksonville score a touchdown just to leave enough time for the Jets to tie or win the game, but the Jets were unable to do that.

The New York Jets hope to end the teams losing streak on November 22 against the New England Patriots.
