New York Jets Lose 16-13 in Overtime
The New York Jets suffered a 16-13 defeat on Sunday by the Buffalo Bills at Giants Stadium. After starting the season 3-0, this was the Jets’ third straight loss, and until this game the Bills had lost 12 of their previous 15 games.
Although the Jets had 318 yards on the ground, they were unable to be victorious as they fell in overtime. The loss could fall much on the shoulders of Rookie quarterback, Mark Sanchez. In Sunday’s game, he completed 10 of 29 passes for 119 yards, threw 5 interceptions, and no touchdowns. With an unfortunate interception pass to wide receiver, Braylon Edwards, Mark Sanchez set up the Bills’ winning drive.
Despite the poor performance, Sanchez will remain on the field. Since beating Kellen Clemens for the job, it is clear that Sanchez, the fifth overall pick out of Southern California, has mostly struggled. However, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan plans on sticking with Mark Sanchez as his starting quarterback.
On the bright side, Jets running back Thomas Jones ran for a franchise record of 210 yards on 22 carries. This was also a career best. Another contributor was Leon Washington who had 99 yards on 15 carries. With some of the top rushing performances of the year, this game could have been an easy win for the Jets.
The New York Jets have their next game on October 25 against the Oakland Raiders in Oakland.
