Derek Jeter: Yankee Great
Friday, Sepetember 11, 2009 was definitely the night of Derek Jeter’s biggest moment. He made his 2,722 hit, passing Lou Gehrig for the most career hits of any New York Yankee. Jeter has officially solidified his spot as one of the Yankee greats.
This record breaking hit happened in the bottom of the third inning off of Orioles’ pitcher Chris Tillman. It was sent to right field, which comes as no surprise because 75 of his 188 hits this season have gone to the right of second base.
Jeter, a life-long Yankee who is now 35, only has a few years left in the major leagues, but this is no worry. He has left a huge impact in baseball, and his newest achievement only enhances the legacy he has built. Few players can even compare to Jeter’s heart, athleticism, commitment, and baseball ability.
The New York Yankees lost 10-4, but that was not enough to stop the excitement of Jeter’s accomplishment. The New York Yankees are now focused on winning the division and going to the playoffs.
