Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band begin their final Giant Stadium performances tomorrow through October 9! They have announced that at each of these 5 shows they will be performing one of their classic albums in its entirety. “Born to Run,” “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” and “Born in the USA,” are the albums that the band has chosen to play in full album sequences.

The band will be opening its 5 performances by playing the entire “Born to Run” album, which the band performed in full at Chicago’s United Center on September 20. Due to the fan enthusiasm during this show, they have made their decision to perform on album each night at Giants Stadium.

During the October 2 show, the band will be playing “Darkness on the Edge of Town.” The October 3 and October 9 performances will feature “Born in the USA,” and the October 8 show will again feature the album, “Born to Run.”

These performances are especially significant because this will be Bruce and the band’s final performance at Giants Stadium before it is torn down, not to mention they will be the last musical act to ever perform there.

Devils 1, Flyers 0. On Saturday, September 26, the New Jersey Devils were successful in shutting out the Philadelphia Flyers at the Prudential Center. The New Jersey Devils center, Dainius Zubrus, scored his first goal of the preseason past Flyers goalie Brian Boucher.

The NHL’s all-time winningest goalie, Martin Brodeur, made his second start of the preseason, and played hard to earn the shut out for the Devils. He stopped all 21 shots that were attempted. After Thursday nights game when the Flyers claimed a 2-1 win in overtime over Brodeur and the Devils, it was time to get back at them. Brodeur is on his way to breaking more records as he is just three shut outs behind Terry Sawchuk, who holds the record.

The New Jersey Devils are only one preseason game away from opening night. They will be hosting the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

There are only 4 days until the New Jersey Devils have their opening night at the Prudential Center. The game is Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 7 p.m. once again, against the team’s rival, the Philadelphia Flyers. This game is expected to be Martin Brodeur’s 1,000 NHL game.

Wintuk, presented at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden made its debut November 1, 2007 and will continue to entertain audiences again this holiday season.

Wintuk is the story of on boy’s quest to find snow and adventure. On this journey, he is accompanied by a shaman who’s lost in the city, a shy man named Wimpy and the shadow of a young girl. This adventure brings the characters to an imaginary arctic world known as Wintuk – an environment without sunlight. Here they encounter the people of the North and giant ice creatures.

Wintuk features an international cast of 50 performers from Cirque du Soleil. With its thrilling acrobatics, breathtaking theatrical effects, and memorable songs, Wintuk will certainly not disappoint.

Cirque de Soleil has experienced many firsts with this production. Wintuk has been designed exclusively for the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden. This makes it Cirque du Soleil’s first permanent address in New York for a show presented outside the Big Top. Wintuk is the first Cirque du Soleil show created specifically for a family audience. It is also the first Cirque de Soleil production to be built around a specific premise: the theme of winter.

Wintuk plays Novemeber 11, 2009 – January 3, 2010 at the WaMu Theater.

Rock N Roll star, Bruce Springsteen, turned 60 on Wednesday, September 23. Although he is now 60 years old, he still manages to keep his music and himself spirited and fresh. He spent his birthday preparing for his 5 shows at Giants Stadium starting next Tuesday.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are touring in support of their new album, “Waiting On A Dream,” but they are sure to play their old favorites as well.

Originally the band was only supposed to play 2 shows at Giants Stadium, but since the tickets were selling out so quickly, they added 3 more dates. Not surprisingly, Bruce Springsteen is the record holder for the number 1 selling artist at the Meadowlands, selling out over 50 concerts there with his band.

This is your last chance to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at Giants Stadium before the stadium is demolished. Since a new stadium is being built at the Meadowlands, this series of concerts will be the final ones in the stadium’s 33-year existence.

The New York Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Wednesday night at Angel Stadium. This was unfamiliar territory to the Yankees, as this was the first time since May 2004 that they went to the Angels’ house and beat them in a series. In 2002 and 2005 the New York Yankees were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Angels. After losing 18 of their last 23 games at Angel Stadium, the Yankees won back-to-back games this week.

The Yankees secured their spot in the playoffs with a little help from their pitchers.

A.J. Burnett had 11 strikeouts on Wednesday night, which is only 1 shy of matching his season high. He continues to make doubts about his readiness to pitch disappear by only allowing 3 runs over his last 12 2/3 innings pitched. He only allowed 7 hits and 2 runs before leaving Wednesday’s game in the sixth inning.

It took over a year for Yankees’ pitcher Ian Kennedy to come back to a major league pitching mound after surgery to remove an aneurysm below his right biceps. Ironically enough the last place he pitched for the Yankees was at Angel Stadium. He was a little rusty, as he loaded the bases by walking two batters and hitting another in the eighth inning.

The Associated Press is reporting that Russia’s richest man has reached a deal to purchase a controlling stake in the New Jersey Nets. Mikhail Prokhorov’s Onexim Group announced the deal on Wednesday with Forest City Ratner Companies and Nets Sports & Entertainment.

The deal gives him 80% involvement in the team and 45% involvement in the arena that Bruce C. Ratner is building for the team in Brooklyn. Ratner will retain controlling interest in the arena upon its completion.

“This partnership will ensue the successful completion of a world-class entertainment venue in Brooklyn, the relocation of the NBA Nets basketball team and the economic and housing benefits of the Atlantic Yards Project.” said a joint statement from Forest City Ratner Cos, Nets Sports & Entertainment, and Prokhorov’s Onexim Group.

After the NBA reviews the proposal, the deal must be approved by 75% of its board of governors. Ratner and Prokhorov are hoping to have the sale completed by the first quarter of 2010.

Prokhorov already owns a stake in Russia’s top team and is worth an estimated $9.5 billion, but with this deal Prokhorov becomes the first NBA owner who is not North American.

The New York Giants beat the Dallas Cowboys 33-31 on Sunday night, forcing the Cowboys to lose their regular season home opener. The Giants beat them at the new $1.2 billion Cowboys Stadium in front of a record breaking crowd of 105,121.

The New York Giants were able to spoil the Cowboys big day by making the plays when they needed to, and by taking advantage of the mistakes made by Dallas.

Three interceptions were thrown by Dallas quarterback, Tony Romo, and one went right into the hand of New York Giants corner back, Kenny Phillips. Dallas also had a total of four turnovers for the Giants to capitalize on.

On the other hand, the Giants were looking pretty good. Eli Manning, New York’s quarterback, completed 25 of 38 attempts, passing for 330 yards. His favorite receiver seemed to be Mario Manningham, who finished with 10 receptions, 150 yards, and a touchdown. A 22-yard touchdown pass was thrown early in the fourth quarter to Steve Smith.

Manning also set up the game winning field goal with an 11 play, 56-yard drive in the final minutes of the game which included two-third down conversions. With no time left in the game, Lawrence Tynes made a 37-yard field goal which left the score at 33-31 in the New York Giants favor.

Lawrence Tynes’ 37-yard field goal with no time left gave the Giants a 33-31 victory and a 2-0 record, with both wins against NFC East foes.

South Pacific is back on Broadway! It is based on a Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel by James A. Michener, entitled Tales of the South Pacific, which dealt largely with the issue of racism.

It is arguably one the greatest musicals of the twentieth century, with the original Broadway production winning ten Tony Awards. Several of its songs, including “Bali Ha’i,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair” and “Happy Talk” have become musical classics.

South Pacific is at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater.  It is directed by Bartlett Sher. It stars Laura Osnes, who you may remember as being the winner of the “Grease: You’re The One That I Want” reality competition.

The show will transport you back to the musical and lyrical style of the 1950s, and you will love every minute of it!

The musical is set on a South Pacific island during World War II and tells the story of two couples whose romances are threatened by the dangers of  war and their own prejudices.  Will tragedy tear them apart? Will they overcome their prejudices and find true love?

The Addams Family, featuring the bazaar and beloved characters, is coming to Broadway! It will begin previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on March 5, 2010, and will have its Opening Night on April 8, 2010.

The Addams family was created by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams. He is most known for his creation of the characters of the Addams family that formed the television show. The characters existed separately, but were never collectively called The Addams Family, until the TV show was created.

The Broadway musical production is based on this wonderfully weird family that is put to the test when outsiders come to dinner. This puts the whole family in the position to have a night that will change them forever.

This new show was created by Rick Elice and Marshall Brickman, most known for creating Jersey Boys, with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. The Addams Family will be directed by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch.

Talented actors and two-time Tony winners, Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth are to star as Gomez and Morticia Addams. Joining them will be Kevin Chamberlin as Uncle Fester, Jackie Hoffman as Grandmama, Terrence Mann as Mal Beineke, Zachary James as Lurch, Krysta Rodriguez as Wednesday, and Adam Riegler as Pugsly.

Over the summer rookie Mark Sanchez was chosen as the starting quarterback for the New York Jets. On Sunday, September 13 during the New York Jets season opener, Sanchez led the team to a 24-7 victory over the Houston Texans.

Mark Sanchez had a lot of hype, and he lived up to it. He went 18 of 31 for 272 yards and a touchdown. He  was also very good at converting third downs, and was able to convert 10 of 18. Surprisingly, he made very little mistakes, only making one interception to John Busing.

Sanchez’s first touchdown pass in the NFL was made in the second quarter to Chansi Stuckey for a 30-yard touchdown. This gave the New York Jets a 10-0 lead on the Houston Texans.

The Jets defense was not taking any prisoners! The Texans supposedly have one of the best offenses this year, but that didn’t stop the Jets. Houston was only able to get a total of 183 yards against the New York Jets defense.

Steve Slaton, Texans running back, was only able to attain 17 yards on 9 carries. Andre Johnson, Texans wide receiver, only had 35 yards on 4 receptions.

The New York Jets have a big game on Sunday, September 20 against the New England Patriots.

Friday, Sepetember 11, 2009 was definitely the night of Derek Jeter’s biggest moment. He made his 2,722 hit, passing Lou Gehrig for the most career hits of any New York Yankee. Jeter has officially solidified his spot as one of the Yankee greats.

This record breaking hit happened in the bottom of the third inning off of Orioles’ pitcher Chris Tillman. It was sent to right field, which comes as no surprise because 75 of his 188 hits this season have gone to the right of second base.

Jeter, a life-long Yankee who is now 35, only has a few years left in the major leagues, but this is no worry. He has left a huge impact in baseball, and his newest achievement only enhances the legacy he has built. Few players can even compare to Jeter’s heart, athleticism, commitment, and baseball ability.

The New York Yankees lost 10-4, but that was not enough to stop the excitement of Jeter’s accomplishment. The New York Yankees are now focused on winning the division and going to the playoffs.
