Yankees Begin Second Half Within Striking Distance

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

The Yankees are the best team of all time, you just can’t question their 23 World Series Championships, but the past few years have been tough on the Bronx Bombers.

Great expectations have gone unfulfilled while scandal has rocked the franchise in the form of Jason Giambi, Roger Clemens, and Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees Payroll is always tops in the league, while their farm system produces talent but many of the young players don’t seem to get the job done in the Bigs.

The Yankees have been fighting their bitter rival Boston Red Sox almost every year for the AL title, and this year the Sox have simply dominated the Yanks, posting a 12-0 record on the season against the Yanks. Nevertheless, New York is only 3 games behind the Sox at this point and a series sweep could even the score in one weekend.

I will never count the Yankees out of anything until they are mathematically eliminated so it’s bound to be a long season in the AL East. Grab some Yankees tickets and join the fun.

Mets Look Rough Coming Out of the Break

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

The Mets did not look good entering the symbolic second half of the season as they were defeated on the road by the Atlanta Braves 5-3. The loss drops the Mes 7 ½ games back in the NL East and puts a heavy burden on them in trying to make the playoffs in September, though there is a whole lot of baseball left.

In Thursday’s game against the Braves, the Mets offense was almost nonexistent outside of the fourth inning when the Mets put up three runs. After taking a 3-2 lead in that inning, they Mets immediately gave up another run and never had a shot after that.

Luis Castillo was the only Met to grab multiple hits in the game with two. While 12 Mets in the lineup ended the night hitless. For Atlanta no batter had multiple hits or multiple RBI while the offense was spread out across the lineup. Escobar and Garrett Anderson each had a homer in the game for Atlanta.

The Mets are down, but not out and the season is young. So grab your Mets tickets now and cheer them on!

American League Makes it a Baker’s Dozen

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

The National League really wanted this year, you could tell. With homefield advantage on the line for the World Series, this year’s All Star game would allow the Senior Circuit to have a great opportunity to to repeat as World Series Champs for the first time since 1982 – a statistic that haunts many National League fans, particularly those who share their home towns with American League fans.

Futher stirring the pot is the fact that the National League has not won and All Star game in 13 seasons, fueling the fire of A.L. fans that their league is undeniably the better league. The last time that the National League won , Bill Clinton was campaigning for a second term, while most Americans were beginning to hear about the “Internet” and Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Mark McGwire were still revered baseball legends heading straight for Cooperstown.

This year could have been the year, as the NL has managed to lose the last four games by one run each, including a stunning 15-inning loss last year in New York. But alas, it wasn’t to be as the AL pushed to a 2-0 lead early and was able to control the tempo for a 4-3 win and yet another one-run victory.

Nevertheless, you never know who will win the World Series, and home field can be broken and may only really matter in a seven-game series. Regardless, you should start thinking about buying your World Series tickets now and prepare for October early!

The Prince of Milwaukee is the King of the Derby

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

This year’s Home Run Derby was chock full of superstars from local favorites Albert Pujols and Ryan Howard to Derby newcomers Nelson Cruz and Joe Mauer. But it was another slugger who took home the crown: Milwaukee’s Prince Fielder.

Fielder and Nelson Cruz led the way in the first round with 11 bombs apiece and were joined in the second round by Ryan Howard and Albert Pujolz who lifted 8 and 5 homers respectively in the first round. The final National League participant was Adrian Gonzalez while the American League was represented by Carlos Pena and Brandon Inge.

The 11 Home Runs were enough to move Fielder and Cruz on to the final round where the Prince took an 4-3 win for the 2009 Home Run Derby Crown. Fielder and his dad, Cecil are now the only father and son combination to ever win the Home Run Derby.

The season is in full swing now, so grab some Brewers tickets and watch the Derby champ in action.

Yankees Hammer Twins to Remain One Back

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

With the All Star Game only one week away, the Yankees are trying hard to overtake the Red Sox before the symbolic mid-season break. Such an undertaking would potentially give a huge boost to the Yankees who have been just behind Boston for most of the season.

On Tuesday, the Minnesota Twins tried to stand in the way of the streaking Yankees while trying to stay in striking distance in their own division. But the Yankees dismantled the Twins 10-2 behind clutch performances by Mark Teixeira and CC Sabathia.

Sabathia pitched seven innings, while only allowing 3 hits, while Tex went a game-high 4 for 6.

The Yankees have only a few more changes to grab the last game on the Red Sox before the break, but regardless of the standings at the AllStar break, the Yankees are making mid season waves. Grab some Yankees tickets and enjoy!
